Thanks JSW, I'll have a look at them. My fiance physically wants to see them, so I guess I could order some samples first before committing!

I picked up a photographers leaflet whilst I was at the Church last week. The prices looked much cheaper than hotshots etc. problem is, the leaflet is at home and I can't remember the name! I will check tonight. It was a South African lady I think.

I love Brit Balti however i am from the UK and it is what i used to eat in the UK Each to their own Here here! I also love Brit Balti and I'm from the UK. I don't think it's to everyone's taste though, and certainly different to 'Indian' Indian food!

Did he say why he didn't encourage it? As an ex dental nurse, it's something we did regularly as a preventative measure. Maybe he was thinking ahead to potential income loss?!!

Honestly Shep, if you haven't already, get an Egate card. It will save you time and money in the long run! I wouldn't have had to pay out nearly 200 quid for a new passport if I'd got one sooner!

I sent my passport to Dussledorf for renewal and was a bit nervous about not getting the old one returned. I wrote a paragraph on the application form explaining why I needed the old one back and they sent it with the new one. As for customs, I haven't had any problems. I use Egate now to stop them filling up my shiney new passport with their flaming stamps!!

Yep - I had to get a new passport because it was full but visa is in the old one. Now I carry the old and new passport together when I travel. I find it's best to physically attach them together with an elastic band. You don't want the hassle of forgetting one!

Not the cheapest option but they do them in The Paper Room (Dubai Mall). They keep the big ring binders in store where you pick your design. I've got my eye on some very nice Vera Wang ones! Failing that, do a search on here - there have been a few local companies mentioned that undertake printing wedding invitations. One that I made a note of is Spectrum.

Glad to help:) There are also fees at the Embassy. I can't recall exactly what I was told by the British Embassy but I think around AED 1,000

Ah sorry, that will teach me to be presumptuous! I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing once you've obtained the Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage from the relevant Embassy, it would be down to what dates/times were available at the church. If they are from the UK you have to post Banns at the Embassy for 3 weeks before getting the certificate. So I would assume 3 weeks plus however long it takes to get a church date (obviously depending on availability because weddings are restricted to certain days/times)

Congrats QS6! I'm in the same boat. Firstly the church won't take a booking more than 12 months in advance - so I can't advise on waiting lists as I'm just coming up to the 12 month cut off. If you contact them, they will send you a wedding pack which contains all the information. The church fees are AED 1,500 for residents of the UAE. Contact Lorraine McCrohan. She's the Wedding Secretary at Christ Church Jebel Ali.

I'm pretty sure the brand I bought was called 'Longley Farm' and it was Fat Free. It was in the Silicon Oasis Spinneys a few weeks back (but not at the moment - checked yesterday!)

I always find this a bit hit and miss - sometimes it's available, sometimes not. I've found it in the past in Spinneys. There's an imported brand from the UK (the name of it escapes me at the moment - will repost if I remember!) It was quite expensive as I recall - about 20 dirhams for a small pot. (Far more expensive than full fat but I was on Dukan at the time and just had to have it!) edited for Sp! edited by coffee_mate on 14/09/2011

Crazy isn't it for that money. I got a pair for Christmas (real, I was in the shop when purchased!) and the soles look a right state (I only wear them occasionally). I checked on the official website and the only place that is mentioned in the 'repairs' section is Paris. Actually, the fact that they have a 'where do I repair my Louboutins' section on their website isn't very encouraging, is it?! Sigh...

I found some in Spinneys (Silicon Oasis) but not in the baking section - try the aisle that has tin foil/clingfilm. Honestly, that's where I found it purely by luck! lol - wouldn't surprise me in the slightest! To be fair, it did come in a box shaped like tin foil!

Hi KB - Is Ekaterina and Maria one of the shops in Lamcy Plaza? Or is that another one? This is my plan of attack now - as Sunglow suggested - pop into some shops here and make a list of brands/names available. When I'm home, round up the troops (Mum and MOH) and only try on dresses on the list. (that way I feel I've involved them and get their opinions). Then when I get back to DXB, order chosen dress and have it altered as required. Ta da! Thanks ladies, I know it sounds a bit daft but this was starting to get me in a tizz! hahaaaa Next dilemma - I've fallen in love with an outdoor venue but were planning on October (ish). I think it might be too warm still. It's a bit of a gamble isn't it, weather wise. But November seems soooooo far away I can't wait that long!

I used to use the L'Oreal (the blue one you have to shake). However, I recently picked up Bourjois in Spinneys(also blue, shakey one) It's bigger than the L'Oreal one but same price.

Coffeemate - fill your boots and enjoy life - you have LOADS of time. My wedding was planned in 6 months start to finish and my darling man proposed to me when I was at my biggest (although he didnt think so!) I didnt get married here but planned it all from here (and in 6 months) and got the dress here (Ann Rashid - fantastic) and have to say it was all very easy and enjoyable! Helped by the fact we had a few days at home when we just got engaged and had a lot of luck in terms of knowing our venues and choosing them. However, we had to organise our own caterers/suppliers and everything (even cutlery and furniture) as venue didnt supply them and managed it all very easily by phone and email so dont stress as will be a breeze if marrying here! Do you have much to lose? Even if you do you have LOADS of time! Enjoy yourself - life's too short to be stressing just yet! ;-) You are becoming my wedding guru! Thanks :)

Cheers Aussipup and tamieg1 - appreciate your input and opinions. I forgot to mention, I'm getting married in Dubai. So I guess that's even more reason to sort it out here! I just really wanted my mum to feel part of that whole daughter/dress shopping bit. I'm constantly sending her emails with pictures of dresses I like at the moment!

Hi Sunglow, you're becoming my best buddy on here! I will contact Ann Rashid when I get back. She did a great job for a very close friend of mine. Will also pop into her shop as I believe she stocks one designer that is on my short list (by that I mean I've seen a pic in a mag and I think Ann stocks that brand). The more I think of it, unless I can find something in the UK and walk out of the shop with it there and then, I don't think there is much point. (although I can't deprive my mum of the 'dress shopping trip' so will just have to play along in the shop!) Out of interest, how far in advance of your wedding did you contact Ann?

Sunglow, you're so right. Thank you for making me see sense! (am I turning into Bridezilla?!!) The wedding is not until October next year. So I know there is time - like you said, probably too much time and I'm jumping the gun a bit and it's stressing me out! I have decided to chill out for now. Enjoy my holiday and time with family and refocus when I get back in October - by which time we can book the venues and it will all start to seem 'real'. I will hit the Dukan again though for a week or so before going to the UK! Can I ask, did you get married here?

Coffee Mate! Where are you? Are you hiding in a pool of Mojito? ;-) Hope it's going well. I well and truly fell off the wagon last night and feel yuck today - thai and G&T and am feeling it today! Back on the yoghurt and chicken today! Let me know how it's going? SO missing my wedding planning! Have the prospect of a new JM dvd being delivered today.....oh dear......can't wait - NOT!! Oh Sunglow, I've lost the plot! Not only have I fallen off the wagon, I think it ran me over :( I'm finding it so difficult now OH is back, what with the meals out, drinks, socialising etc. Plus we're going away from Eid, then the UK for 2 weeks. Heck, I know my Mum is going to make me try on wedding dresses and I soooo wanted to be stone lighter by then! I'm thinking of chucking the towel in until after holidays. (I know, it's the wrong attitude) Mum said she will give me all her new Weight Watchers info so I can start that when I get back. It's worked for me in the past. Good luck with JM! That reminds me, I haven't worked out with her for over a week. I'm spiralling out of control here! I keep saying to myself 'its ok, you have a year' but what happens when that year turns into a month and the bl**dy wedding dress won't do up?!! On the positive side, I now haven't smoked for 6 weeks and 5 days :)

Hi Coffee mate Please stick with this. This will happen. You sound very similar to me! I stared doing the Dukan and Jillian Michaels combo before my wedding and dropped 6.5kg and 2 dress sizes in just over 2 months after a very slow start! I got married 2 weeks ago in a Beautiful size 10 dress....the poor dress shop luckily had got a 10,12 and 14 in for me and I was SO thrilled to have worked so hard and stuck with it now I see the pics and had all the compliments! Am now back to it and loosely Dukaning again and did my first Jillian of 3 weeks last night. Oh dear.....can hardly walk today! Sticking with it though as it is SUCH a great feeling to feel confident in clothes again. As for the Dukan it's now just a part of my life. I'm even taking a risk and taking 3 dress to be massively taken in this weekend. I did gain 1.5kgs when home for the week after my wedding but there is NO way my gorgeous hubby will have a fat wife again - although bless him he doesnt think I needed to lose any anyway. GOOD LUCK with both the diet, the exercise plan and the wedding!! :) Ahhh Sunglow, you've made my day! Congrats on your wedding and such a great achievement with the weight loss. You 'll be my inspiration from now on!! I am sticking with it although my back is as stiff as a board today! Think I overdid it on JM's military shoulder presses yesterday! hahahaa. Think I'll lay off the weights this weekend and only do cardio. I've seem the most beautiful wedding dress in Dubai Mall and my goal is to go back in a month or so and try it on again - see if I can get the zip closed this time! I'm trying not to obsess about the scales too and focus on how my clothes feel. Going to view another potential venue for the wedding reception on Saturday, so that will be another little motivator! Thanks for your support, it's really given me boost! :)

Yay - new people!! What do your acronyms mean? 6W6P - six weeks to a six pack but the others I don't know. Also what is the 30 day slim down program? NMTZ - No more trouble zones (i tried this for the first time last night and is my favourite) BFBM -Burn Fat Boost Metabolism - a killer - the hardest one in my opinion! I have both of those in my container :) Which, fingers crossed, will be here within a month. You might wish it got lost when you try BFBM for the first time! lol :)

Yayyy from me too - new people :)) Coffee_mate - are these JM workouts as well? Haven't heard of any of them except for the Ripped in 30 (which I haven't dared try yet!!) Yes they are JM. I got my OH to pick them up from the UK, but you can find them on Amazon as well if you use Shop and Ship. My aim is to build up the whole collection and rotate.... I've been watching this thread from afar for a while and decided it was time to get 'accountable' and jump in!

Hi Cyclone T & GreenQueen, I had posted in the Dubai forum and thanks to Chocs01, I have been directed to the right board :) and really glad to find this thread to post my progress and be accountable I am starting on Saturday (6th) to end on 31st... for about 4 weeks, with a day off in each week. I did a trial run the day before, of the ripped in 30 and it kicked my butt! My program: For the evenings, 6 days a week (Sat-Thu), I will be doing: -NMTZ on day 1 -6W6P on day 2 -BFBM on day 3 -6W6P on day 4 -NMTZ on day 5 and so on for the next 4 weeks. For the mornings, 5 days a week (Sun-Thu), -Ripped in 30 I had previously done the 30 day shred (for about 20 days) then took about 8 months break, and decided to mend my ways for good. So, this June I did the 30 Day slim down with impressive results (managed the entire 30 days) WOW and YAY! and I know I dont want to do the 30 Day Shred levels again, so decided to do the ripped in 30 instead along with NMTZ & BFBM & 6W6P for variety. edited by sumi on 04/08/2011 How are you finding BFBM? I'm finding it to be the hardest one of the lot!
