cedre Villas are actually in Silicon Oasis, so they would be the closest. They also have amenities close by (supermarkets, gym, shops, salons, etc) which you don't get in The Villa or Falcoln City. Cedre Villas also have (communal) pools. HTH

The website is still not live, but their contact numbers are on it: http://fitness4life.ae/ From memory, I think Zumba is on a Sunday about 5:30pm? However, that was for March, so may change in April

Coffee mate is THE person to speak to wedding-wise!! I have had it with all the wedding planners, seriously. St Regis emailed me this morning to say they refuse to move their Friday brunch so I can have my (outdoor, beach) wedding ceremony at 7pm. Ie darkness. Why oh why on earth would all my family and friends fly out to see me get married in a resort wedding, under cover of darkness. I give up! Cheers chick! Honestly, I despair with most of these places! No clue some of them. I'm starting to think I missed my calling in life!

I haven't contacted them yet (plan to soon!), but I've heard that the florist near to Choithrams (opposite Safa Park) has reasonable prices.

Has he suffered any trauma to the teeth? How old is he? It could be as a result of gum disease. Does he have receeding gums? Get to a dentist ASAP. The sooner he is seen, the sooner he can embark on a treatment plan. He may need to see a periodontist. No private dentistry is cheap unfortunately. I worked for a high end dentist in London and prices were reflective of that. When I worked out of London prices were a bit lower. If your colleage has a chronic condition, he will probably need regular treatment, so going to the uk may not be practical for him.

DB, I've got a load of info that I collected when researching venues (albeit they are all in Dubai). If you'd like me to pass it on, I'm happy to email it to you. They are places like Desert Palm, Jebel Ali Hotel, Bateaux Dubai, Dubai Creek & Yacht Club, Marina Yacht Club, Polo Club....

This has got to be a wind up, surely? Who in their right mind could not understand what the issue is here? It's common (road) sense. OP, you are a danger to yourself and other road users. Get on the pavement! Better still, run round the lakes and enjoy the scenery! (from a fellow runner)

That could be the reason. We looked at a lot of venues and most have a minimum spend. Park Hyatt won hands down for value and the venue is just lovely. I can't wait for the day! The contact lady is Bonita Camelia [email protected]

I recently got married in court but am planning my wedding blessing for next year and am frankly shocked at the prices they charge over here. I have had a viewing of various locations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and just received a proposal that almost made me faint! One was charging 81,000dhs just for alcohol - three times the food costs! 39,000 of that was just on champagne! Is this normal? I think a budget of 100k for 80 guests is reasonable but apparently not! 10,000 just on flowers? That after one day will die and be thrown away? It's just too much. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced locations or ways I can cut costs without appearing cheap. The alcohol wasn't even the free flow option - it was 2 bottles of wine per table of 8, 1 hr of drinks reception and 1 glass of champers for the speeches. I was really happy and excited and enjoying the viewings but now just want to cry... :( Where are you getting those quotes from? My wedding planning is in full motion and quite frankly, those prices made my eyes water! We're having a reception at the Park Hyatt and it's not costing anywhere near that (including canapes, 4 courses meal and 4 hours free flow drinks) They also provide the flowers on the tables and loads of candles/tea lights. So the only flowers I need to source are my bouquets and botton holes for wedding party. ETA... they also include the cake and wedding night stay at the hotel! edited by coffee_mate on 26/03/2012

Coffee-Mate, I am ordering the other parts of my invites from pureinvitation but I have a design that I want printed on the inserts so I am going to do that part myself in Dubai. Ah I see! Well if you have no luck finding the card in Dubai, you could always order the blank inserts and have them printed here. At least then you would have an exact colour match.

I couldn't find any that was of the quality I wanted, so ended up doing S&S, using this company in the UK: www.pureinvitation.co.uk I ordered blank card invites that you put together yourself and they do the printing if you wish. I highly recommend them. Infact, that reminds me, I need to order my name cards from them!

Yeah, ive heard he wouldnt get his own british passport but a friend of mine has her husband on her british passport and was able to do this even before they got married and were engaged. Just need to get him over here and get married so he can stay and find a job. I ove it here so far but its just not the same without him. I thought the days of having people on your passport were long gone (thinking back to when kids were put on mothers passports). Might be wrong though. You're probably best contacting the british embassy directly. And as Macallan said, you can't get married a court here. Only church. HTH

Personally, I quite like it as you never know what you're going to find. I do like a bargain! I've heard people say it's rubbish because it's not like the ones in UK/US/Europe, which is probably true. Go have a look. I had a very nice steak at the restaurant near the door once! (even if the shops don't impress you, at least you don't have to cook dinner!) :)

Yes, from Bur Dubai, I'd take the Al Ain road from the Trade Center and you just keep going. It's about 5kms past the Silicon Oasis/Academic City exit on Al Ain Road ETA... Is it worth it? It's not amazing but I've picked up some cheap workout gear from there in the past. Worth a look if you fancy a little trip out. I heard it's closing down but can't tell you when. edited by coffee_mate on 13/03/2012

Does anyone know if you can buy a ticket on the day, on arrival? Yes you can, AED 60 in advance, AED 75 on the door. ETA I think it says that the free tickets are for Saturday only edited by pinks on 13/03/2012 Thanks for that. Not sure 100% if I can go yet, so would prefer not to pay in advance incase I can't make it after all.

mmm .. I quote '' [b'>My friend recently had a call from the bank - they'd forgotten to clear 3k on a credit card 3 years ago.. Although they haven't used the card since 2009 the bank are telling them they now owe 16,000 AED!!![/b'> So if Im reading this correctly.. You friend had 3 K owed to a bank on a credit card but forgot to pay it .. 3 years later they are now asking for 16 K .. That would mean that with the late payment charges and the interest its shot up to 16K. i would speak to the bank and work out an affordable payment plan. Unless ive read this incorrectly ! sorry I interpreted it as the bank forgot to clear the 3k after her friend had paid it off 3 years ago...?! OP can you clarify x
