ahhh okay... sorry to have misunderstood... with the packages it is best to check with the respective hospital as to what is covered and what isn't coz every hospital will have a different policy on their exclusions... most packages will not, for example, cover the following: - any antenatal admission prior to delivery - neo natal ICU - blood transfusions - newborn screening - epidurals - patient helper meals & stay - extended stay more than allocated to that type of delivery Good points by horizonmum2. To put it other way ..they will cover only what is mentioned in their package . They stick to it, quite literally. Expect to be invoiced for everything for the newborn..vaccination, peadiatrician care at the time of delivery, newborn screenings and peadiatrician checkup before you are sent home. You can find out from your hospital..for a normal delivery what things are done for newborn and how much it does add up to..to get an idea how much you need to pay out of your pocket on top of your package. If there are any complications( vacuum or forceps or any NICU stay) that's also separate, as the package is usually for a straight forward normal delivery or straight forward cesarean with a fixed number days of hospital stay. Depending on how expensive services are in your chosen hospital , have a backup cash of at least 10k at the time of delivery.

Bed spaces are illegal, when discovered, municipality disconnects power and water to vacate the building (after giving a notice) . However, it's still a common practice in some areas of dubai and people still use it, as it is convenient for a short term stay for a job hunt. They usually go unnoticed unless the building is in a family residential area. Be warned, a bed space setup would be a bit of a shock for most . living conditions can be quite poor. better (more expensive) option would be to share a full apartment with 3 or 4 people max. There is no way of sorting accommodation from overseas because you need to physically go and survey the place (and people) before committing. Better to book a budget hotel room before arrival for the first week or so while doing accommodation search. Newer areas of dubai would have better accomodation options than the older areas. Dubizzle is excellent for all such listings. Would give you an idea of prices and areas.

Depending on the budget you land here with, you can rent a bed space in an accommodation or share apartment with one or two persons near one of the metro stations. Use metro for most of commuting , along with bus and occasional taxi ride. Applications are mostly done online, some people do drop cvs also but in any case you might be asked to show up for an interview with no option of a Skype interview. That's how it all went for one of our relative who landed here for job search on a three month visa. Would recommend start applying from outside and land here with some interviews already arranged and make sure you don't come in or near Ramadan!

Lady bird nursery umm suqeim use to be tiny home nursery when my son use to go there. They renamed in sept 2014 I think. They have been in dubai from many years now and Helen use to run it then and it was a very good experience. My son enjoyed it and learned a lot. They have a good montessori approach paired with some things from EYFS curriculum. When my son was there we did have issue with the teacher leaving in the middle of term and he was merged with another section but that was for the best. As the new one was lovely and very good. I would highly recommend a montessori curriculum , no matter which nursery you choose.

Hi Ladies, I just found out I'm pregnant! And now I'm confused. I just made an appointment with Mediclinic's Dr. Jennifer Kasirsky, would you guys have any feedback about her? She will only see me on sept. 8, and thats too far away (i will be almost 7 weeks that time). I'm currently on 4 weeks now, is that too late to see a doctor? I wanted to keep my options, please recommend other good/sincere ob you know specially in mediclinic/welcare/saudi german and al zahra hospital. Thanks! Dr Jennifer comes quite recommended by my DH's colleague who delivered her two babies with her and was quite pleased both times. 8 weeks is good time for the first antenatal check up. Like you, I also wanted to see a gynae right away and at 5 weeks she was not able to do anything for me except a pregnancy confirmation blood test and sent me home to come back at 6 or 7 week at least. A heart beat confirmed after completion of 7 weeks is a good indication for a viable pregnancy so I would recommend not going too early.

How about a library? http://www.theoldlibrary.ae/ -- open 12-4 most days in the summer. Old library is not accepting book donations during August. They might resume in September but they are quite particular about what kind of books they accept.

I have about 50 books that I'd like to donate and wondered if anyone knows any charities that take and sell on book donations? Got a good collection :) Rashid peadiatric therapy center, noor special needs school, dubai school of special needs, all accept book donations (and all kind of other household things) which they sell at their charity shops and flea market days to generate money for special needs students. Drop the books at reception.

Thanks! I knew someone here would be able to help! I live near Safa park. Which would be the closest DHA office? I don't think I have ever been to a government health agency. Thanks again. There is a DHA health clinic on Al attar street near safa park, access might be tricky due to road work. Pharmacy inside the clinic should accept the medicine. Call to confirm 04-5021400.

What about a gift certificate for a Spa and she can pick facial or any treatment. Personally I love the Talise Spa at Madinat, also heard very good reviews from the Spa at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and the One and Only. Hi silvstet , can you recommend which facial is good at talise at madinat? Any recommendation for therapist? I am thinking to try it out.

Hi mrssak. for speech therapy i can recommend Hayley at Rashid peadiatric therapy center near MOE. They do have occupational therapist available there but the one i use to see, left on maternity leave and never came back so cannot recommend any one for OT. you can register after the center opens in September but there would be a wait list. Just for info, their outpatient therapy department operates between 2 to 5 pm only . Hope it helps.

Has anyone attended a worthwhile parenting class here in Dubai? Especially one suitable for teens or those approaching that age. Pre-teen hormones coming out and DD getting rude and now aggressive. Need to find a way of dealing with this properly before it escalates. Or any other tips for dealing with this? I have heard about something similar on radio few months back. Lighthouse Arabia holds parenting talks at their center. Information is on their website http://www.lighthousearabia.com They did few parenting talks before summer vacation (that's when I heard about them on radio). Check out the website may be something going on at the moment also.

thank you ladies for your replies! I want to take her for initial check up as she started sluttering couple of months ago. We saw Hayley for stuttering/stammering as well. It went very well and now we see her only on review basis. The center is closed for summer vacation. You can register your name when they open. Unfortunately, there would be a bit of wait list. Best of luck with who ever you choose to see at the end but do find out if they are trained specifically for fluency speech disorders, as we went through a couple of them before finally finding Hayley. Apart from speech therapist, I would also recommend you talk to your child's teacher at school about your concern as well. So that she is mindful of your child's stammer and give her enough time to respond and is patient with her.

I have lived in kuwait for many years (family is still there) and moved to dubai after marriage. As far as lifestyle is concerned, I agree that they are worlds apart. If you are not working there, getting a license is a problem for housewives , which means you are dependent on your husband or taxies for moving around. Life is slow and you might find it boring as you would be moving from dubai. Traffic is a mess. On a positive note, things like fuel, electricity and water are heavily subsidized, so they are quite cheap. Cars cost the same like in dubai. no security issues. Rents are cheaper. Private healthcare is fine. You can hope to save money there while living comfortably. The only thing really wrong about kuwait are the arrogant and rude locals and their police force.,Traffic law is not same for expats and locals and it really annoyed me when I was there. Can't comment on work culture as I did not experience it first hand but you can expect to find many locals in a bank as banking is their preferred profession apart from government sector. Apart from that, it would take time getting used to, but definitely manageable.

Unfortunately not enough space in kitchen for a side by side refrigerator. @amelia and Geordie expat...is your Panasonic fridge's model number NRB651? https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstore/Product.aspx?productid=2300&name=PANASONIC_FRIDGE_NRB651#description That's the only one I can see in Carrefour and everywhere else. Hi Does anyone know if Dr Liliana Is experienced in high risk pregnancy cases?really need more information on her and more reviews. Has anyone with a high risk pregnancy been to see her or delivered in al zahra. Is it fully equipped to deal with the things city hospital is? Anyone had experience of their nicu? Please share your experiences with Dr Liliana. Thanks Cp For a high risk pregnancy I would recommend a gynae working inside a good hospital, I have some experience with dr Lilliana and it did not turn out good. She does not work on Thursdays , clinic is closed on Friday . They don't allow walk ins and close quite early daily, as compared to other clinics. I saw dr Lilliana at the start of my pregnancy, she ordered a full range of tests on my first appointment at 6 weeks (most of them should have been done at 12 week appointment). When I had some problem at 9 weeks, I called for an emergency appointment only to be informed by the nurse that doctor is on vacation. When I asked what I should do if I need to go a hospital and there is some emergency , nurse asked me to just walk in Al Zahra and tell them symptoms for treatment. It was quite a shock to me to be a random walk in patient in a hospital I have never been to before. So that very day I went to medcare , saw another gynae as walk in and got good treatment. Being a patient of dr Lilliana , You have no link with Al zahra or file there during the antenatal period. At 32 weeks the clinic give a file to you to carry with you to hospital in case of any emergency. You are pretty much a walk in patient at al Zahra with a file in hand. I was not comfortable with that system and I won't recommend it to someone with a high risk pregnancy. Hope that helps.

Max stores, sell the self adhesive front bra in nude and black much better price than la senza. M&S in the UK have a front bra with side wings With disposable adhesive patches to fix (a bit painful on removing) not sure whether the UAE stores stock them. Nayomi have a multi way bra with detachable clear silicon and colored straps that can be worn about 7 ways which may work. HTH Thanks for info. Is there a Max @ MOE? you can find Max at ibn battuta mall or oasis center.

Thanks There is after school care for primary kids in Horizon international school (formerly star international school). Surprisingly, very few people know about that but it's quite excellent. Active uae offer classes in my community and they are awful. They keep stuffing classes with children. There is no max number!!! We once walked in for our first tennis lesson to find 8 children in a 45 min lesson!!! And similar situation in their swimming at repton. Steer clear!

Thanks for all your replies. What I want to know is if they do enough tests while getting treated as a public patient? My friend has been hospitalized thrice just for emptying her cervix after miscarriage. Each time they discharge her without ultrasound and make excuses why it is not required when she demands to have it done to make sure everything is clear? also, is a private insurance in australia..comparable to a private insurance here in Dubai? Do you get easy and quick access to a specialist? And tests? And do you get a say in your treatment plan? Over here if I am prescribed a treatment and I am not 100% sure of it , I can seek a second opinion. Is something like that possible in a public healthcare system there ? Thanks once again. Sorry for so many questions..but we have not experienced a public healthcare system before.

I had train tracks, top and bottom at Dr Michaels a few years a go - it was about 16,000 for the full treatment. You pay in instalments every time you go. The orthodontist was at the Al Wasl branch - Dr David. I have permanent retainers cemented behind my teeth. When I went for a recent check up at another dentists he said the work was excellent and he's seen some really terrible orthodontic work here. Up shot - you get what you pay for. Actually some part of what you pay also goes to the rent and upkeep of that fancy villa clinic on a prime location on Al wasl. By the way dr Madhu comes quite recommended on expat woman.

sigghhh... i've called up so many places... cheapest quote I've got so far to replace the LCD is 599dhs at a Minutes showroom... all the other places like cellmetro etc. are charging closer to 1000dhs! :-( somebody pls find me a cheaper deal in satwa/deira My colleague has a Samsung Note and she paid 600 in Satwa, She got a discount from 750 That is the going rate as LCD screens arent cheap to replace. sighhhh now i'm in a dilemma as to whether to just fix it at that price or buy myself a new phone :-( :-( :-( Would like to add that these replacement satwa screens are not as strong as the original ones. Original ones survive many falls...replacement ones.. One fall and it's gone. So make your decision accordingly.
