One of my colleagues recently took a car back to the UK and it was quite complicated and very expensive, but possible. However do check up the latest requirements around emissions testing as the EU is very strict as I have another friend who sent a car to Rumania only to have to bring it back because it failed!

I rarely comment on maid threads but I have to agree with kitten67, you are looking for 50+ hours a week basic work plus weekend babysitting, own accommodation and transport - I don't think you will find anyone especially as you live a long way from most areas maids live in. Plus being honest - you are asking her to take on huge responsibilities, new baby, 3 animals, cleaning and cooking / food prep - when my own kids were babies I struggled so how any poor maid could be expected to manage.... I don't know!

The best French cheeses are found in Carrefour, if you ask at their cheese counter they will be able to suggest which type of Camembert you should buy for each purpose. Bon Appetit :)

Visiting Saudi is impossible unless you have very close family there, even then it is difficult to get a visit visa, or you go for work and need an invitation from your company or the company you are visiting. Perhaps it could be possible to work something out with a university - they might be able to get you a visa. Truthfully I have been for work and can't see any appeal to visit in my own time but I am glad I have had the opportunity to go, it was an experience!

I would knock on the door and ask if they are new tenants, you could warn them about their landlords dirty tricks and even ask for a copy of their Ejari. I think you would have to say you didn't intend any harm to them only to get some compensation from the landlord. Good luck, the days of the 'dirty landlord' never really went away but at least rents aren't going up daily any longer.

You should courier it back to your home country, the banks here would charge a fortune and still have to send it back yo the country of origin. Is there no way they can credit your bank account by bank transfer?

I am confused, is this bad tenant still living there? You mentioned he bounced a cheque last year, and since then ......what has happened? I thought the rent committee were now hearing cases within 6 weeks.

I am going out on a limb here and going to say Repton!! I have been round Repton a few times recently (with new employees) and get a great feeling while I am at the school. It has fantastic facilities compared to JPS (sports and classrooms/play areas etc). JPS is squashed into a site that is far too small and has overflowing classrooms, the size of the class is far far smaller at repton too. Also your Year 5 will not have to change schools at age 11, to me that is a huge advantage - unless it is unavoidable who wants multiple school drop offs as a Mum! Hope this helps you a little to decide, you are very fortunate to have 2 offers at 2 outstanding rated schools :)

Cara has in the last 10 years made lots of jewellery for me and my family and we have all been very happy with both the quality and the cost. They just made my daughters engagement ring using diamonds from my grandmothers ring and also 2 rings for a friend of mine who lives in another GCC country, one which they completely designed for her and it is stunning!

Could it be a fox? They get quite brave at times and there are desert foxes that will come into communities. Be careful of leaving the dog locked in the kitchen if it is a fox, they can be quite agressive.

If you use a hire car then i think you can drive on your own licence. Once you have residency and ID etc then you will need to switch it over and it's done within a few minutes. This is sensible advice!

The traffic is easy going that way, I commute from The Greens to Downtown every day (that is a little further on than The Oasis centre) and it takes around 20 minutes. Traffic out of The Marina is worse both morning and night, I don't have first experience though so perhaps someone else can help.

My suggestion would be to find a school first, and don't delay! School places for 6 year olds are quite scarce, perhaps consider schools in Mirdiff or Festival City, they would both be quite close to your place of work. Areas to look at - well budget is normally the deciding factor, villas are far more expensive than apartments both to rent and run. Good luck, CP x

Dear all, Checking if you would have recommendations of nurseries, with good reputation, that does not cost an arm and leg though , and which accepts infants (ie as of 5-6 months) around Tecom area, ie south dubai... I checked a few ie dewdrops in jlt, children's gardening barsha, le jardin enchante barsha, happy learning in tecom, raffles the lakes, etc and they accept kids with minimum age 15 months and above... Thanks a lot TinTinTin http://www.jinspire.com/About-Us/Our-Centres Not that close but some of my colleagues use this one. https://www.facebook.com/toddlertowndubai This one is also supposed to be good.

DESS is a great school but not an easy commute from The Greens or The Marina areas, you'd be better moving to Downtown or Jumeirah, Oud Metha etc. Safa Community is a lovely small school and an easy journey from The a Greens and Marina, also JVC and JVT, Sports City etc.

Try not to worry too much, there are so many mums with young children. Expat Woman has meet ups and most residential areas have a few Facebook pages where you'll be able to find local groups. It will be hot and Ramadan when you arrive so I suggest you look for a few soft play centres where hopefully people will be enjoying some cool play times. As far as which areas to look at - your budget will dictate where to look, also where your husband will be working. The Greens is very popular with young families, all apartments and fairly affordable. If your budget runs to a villa then Arabian Ranches is great, good pools and play areas. Keep asking questions on here, check rents on Dubizzle and Property Finder. Good luck ?

It is between Meydan and the Al Khail road, quite close to Business Bay. You reach it from the Nad Al Sheba exit off the Al Ain Rd.

Wellington SO is a huge school these days, well over 2000 kids I believe. Dubai British School is far smaller and they are opening a new school in Jumeirah Park. Much depends on the age of your child/ren. Check the KHDA reports on both and visit them too, if you can.

I don't have any recent experience but one of the reasons we came to Dubai 10 years ago was because we couldn't confirm school places with the education authorities in the UK until the kids were actually living there! Chicken and egg...... sorry I can't be more helpful but I still remember the nightmare experience.

Are you joint bank account holders? Is/was he your sponsor? Where is the car? Could it be sold? I can't see how any bank could make you responsible, but I would be interested in the answer.

I am looking for mother of the bride outfits! Have you looked at Hobbs, Eve Michelle on Beach Rd, Debenhams have a few stores within stores too. Saying this I have just ordered a dress online from Monsoon, risky but you never know! I am looking to wear a maxi dress (hideous ankles) so the average M of the B outfits aren't any good. Happy Shopping! Nerve wracking isn't it?!

It's a lovely school, I am sure your kids will soon settle there. Areas to consider nearby are Jumeirah and Um Suqeim if your budget stretches to a villa, or Downtown, DIFC, Sheikh Zayed Rd, Business Bay if you are more budget conscious as there are lots of apartments in these areas. Good luck, you will find heaps of help and information on this forum.
