Most of the areas in Victory Heights are finished though they are still doing some building. Lovely well designed villas, many have golf course views and private pools. The access is excellent now onto both Emirates Road and Al Khail Road. Hearing good things about the school too. The shops at Motor City are about 5 minutes drive (there is a little shop by one of the entrances but I haven't looked in it) and The Els Club is reputedly very nice, I haven't personally eaten there either. Only possible downside is that the 2 community pools are not very large but if your budget is a healthy one then perhaps you'll be able to stretch to a private pool!

Have you considered The Lakes? Not too far from Dubai College, not sure about travel to DESC. Access from The Lakes is very easy onto all the major roads. You should be able to get a 4 bedroomed within your budget, lots of big communal pools here with play areas for kids, basketball and tennis courts, Fitness First Gym, Choitrams on site and new club restaurant/bar opening soon. Very nice community feel, great for kids :) And if you have a dog, lots of shaded pathways around The Lakes to go for walks. :) Nice suggestion but the villas are very expensive in The Lakes. Barsha is a very good suggestion as it's central and more affordable than many other areas, also The Villa - it would be very easy to get to DESC but DC could be a little more challenging as Hessa Street is getting busier by the day.

Until the landlord is made responsible for paying the real estate broker these problems will continue ad infinitum, this sounds like another piece of band aid to me.

Is your husband changing companies? If not perhaps they could keep his UAE residency open and that way he could sponsor his family, or - does the company he is moving to have an office in Dubai? If so perhaps they could get him residency in Dubai and again he sponsors you. Many of my companies employees are working in Saudi but they maintain UAE residency too and their families live here, but there are obviously costs involved and not all firms will bear these!

Glad to hear it because I avoid that company like the plague, a colleague of hers called R*m* is a total sleaze bag, he lies and is a real wide boy - one of my work mates had a shocking time with him.

After watching Yo Sushi prepare 'delivery' orders one day I would avoid them too, they were chosing all the oldest plates of food to send and as I never feel their conveyor belts are chilled enough anyway, this would strike me as a recipe to get food poisoning!

We often stay with friends who live off Kensington High Street and use a company called Kensington Cars, I know my friend books them to meet her when she is flying in so they do offer a meet and greet service - here is the number, it must be worth a call, we always ask them what the cost will be before booking! I just found their website too and you can get a quote/book online too. +44 20 737 077 99 http://www.kensington-cars.co.uk/

http://www.awf.ae/law-26-2007.html http://www.awf.ae/law-33-2008.html I came across these two links, I think if it's a landlord that owns multiple units they will not be allowed to evict you. I would go and talk to the rent committee, they are very helpful and will be able to give you advice. Providing you are prepared to pay the % increase they are allowed by law to ask for I can not see how they can move you out. Many of us here are worried right now about what our landlords will do at renewal time, we moved 18 months ago and similar apartments are now going for 25% more than we pay - scary!

Visit Al Mankool Travel Clinic, open Sunday thru Thursday 7.30-1.30. I suggest you get there early as it gets busy later on! I called them yesterday and they gave me different opening times?... Oh well, I think the best thing is to turn up as early as possible as you said Typical, I had these times written down but they may have changed!

I think you are wasting your time coming over on the offchance and hoping to find properties directly with a landlord - cloud cuckoo land, we would all take this approach if it was that easy!

If the property is in a Du area then you must have an Ejari contract to sign up for the service and get connected. You will also need it to sponsor family/maids.

Ladies - we have just hired a maid who was here on a visit visa and have processed her work visa. She now needs to exit the country and enter back in on the work visa. Do any of you know if she can do a road trip to Oman or do we need to send her out by air somewhere? What is the most cost effective option? I think she will have to fly in and out, perhaps look at flights to Doha/Muscat/ Bahrain but do ensure she doesn't need a visa for that country on arrival (which I fear she might) otherwise lots of people go to Kish Island but that can take a few days, and from what I hear it is not a great experience. If your maid is from Sri Lanka I think I would do a visa run via Colombo as you can get cheapish flights but to and from other countries could be very expensive.

He used a driver for a few days, he was charged AED100 per day plus petrol, and I know on one long trip he shared the costs with a couple of Dutch girls, otherwise he used the train and tuk tuks. He stayed in cheap places and ate local food and drank local beer, on average I think he paid $25 per night for his accommodation.

We are in the process of buying a house in Banbury, apart from the fact that we have family there it is a lovely market town with good train and road connections to London/Birmingham/Oxford etc. Also the prices are affordable, we aren't in the market for local schools so I can't comment on them.

The towers are far more expensive than the low rise buildings but I hope you can find what you are looking for, I am finding property finder far better than Dubizzle these days, the agents have to pay to advertise so the ads tend to be genuine ones. http://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent.html <em>edited by Cornish Pixie on 17/07/2013</em>
