Sadly this brunch has gone downhill since our last visit. The pork room has gone and the quality/selection of fish was very poor too, at AED 450 it isn't value for money any longer, suggestions for a new 'favourite' gratefully received - we love sushi and the odd glass of grape to accompany our brunches!

His job title is construction supervisor. Many UAE companies use the title supervisor if people don't have degrees as the powers that be (authorities) don't believe you can manage without one, my title on my visa is supervisor but I am actually a manager in my company!

I found this on the KHDA website. Last page of document. It states 30% not 50% http://www.khda.gov.ae/CMS/WebParts/TextEditor/Documents/FeeFrameWorkEnApril2012.pdf New students: A school may charge up to 30% of the school’s tuition fees as an admission fee to confirm that selected students will opt to take up the offered places. This fee should be deducted from the total tuition fees for the academic year in which the admission is being sought. This is the exact paragraph - it sounds like 30% of the years tuition fees, as it does not mention 'term'.

Thanks everyone for your advice! Another question, if the lease contract is in my husbands company name, will this cause any problems at Ejari? No as the company sponsors him and him you, it will be fine.

This is a new ruling, when a school offers you a place you must pay 50% of a terms fees when you accept it or someone else will get offered the spot - it is a good thing in the long run as it will stop people accepting 5 school places and deciding at the last minute which one to send their little darling to, and so depriving others kids on the wait lists of school places. It is a KHDA ruling but I have not got the link in front of me, I can post it when I get to the office tomorrow (if I remember!).

Thanks everyone, decision made - we'll go it alone. I have looked at the website you posted ABF and it seems quite straight forward, if I get in a fix I will ask one of our PRO's at work to help out!

Oh great, can we chat some time? I work for a large company too and would be really interested to talk, I stay in contact with my old colleagues from Crown but my role is very different these days. Hope to hear from you! edited by Cornish Pixie on 30/11/2012

My gut reaction would be to say stay in the US, a move to Dubai will only show up even more flaws in your marriage. The first 6 months of an overseas move are very stressful, and even happy marriages have their good and bad moments. Sorry to be so blunt but I see many unhappy people here and lots of them arrived thinking it would be a dream life, and have discovered being an expat is tough and you rely a lot on your inner resources.

You wouldn't buy 2 sofas and 2 chairs for that amount! I had Khaleel recover my sofas when we moved, he did a great job and it wasn't outragously expensive, it does depend on the fabric you chose of course! My sofas are almost 20 years old and have been recovered 4 times now, if they are a good quality and you still like the style then it saves a fortune!

You should be able to renew your visa without this, the tenancy contract is only necessary in your own name if you have children/huband that you want to sponsor.

Yes I have dealt with them a few times - Vagif and Michael. They do a lot of short term rentals as well as leasing, do make sure you see the title deed plus owners passport though!

Usually leaks in the water heaters mean that it needs replacing, this is the landlords responsibility as it will cost over AED 500.

If you are lucky enough to find a landlord to rent from direct that's great but do make sure you have all the right paperwork before handing over ANY money! Good luck! Sometimes landlords advertise on Dubizzle, just keep looking!

No 7 isn't very expensive, I have used it off and on for many years, in fact I buy L'Oreal sometimes too. At the risk of being controversial - I don't believe in using expensive cleansers, toners and eye make up removers but the right serum and moisturiser can keep the wrinkles at bay, plus eye cream and lip serum in my case! I think what suits you is very much dependent on your age and skin type!

No 7 from Boots. It's affordable and reliable, try the serum with day cream over, that way your skin remains hydrated all day. There are often buy 2 get 1 free offers too!

One of the people I work with has taken his LL to RERA as he won't repay the deposit (same story, crazy demands to fix this and that after 4 years, no wear and tear taken into account at all). The fee is just 3.5% of the actual deposit (not the whole rent) so cheap! You do have to fill out the forms though, apply in person and attend the hearing, the offices are down on the creek! Do it, some of these landlords are no better than thieves! edited by Cornish Pixie on 31/10/2012

Thank you for all the tips on house training, I will let you know how it goes when the time comes!!! Kimball 65 - so happy to hear your JR puppy is such a clever young chap, I don't regret not taking his sister - it was too soon after losing our old beagle. Now that we have moved we are going for a smaller, less energetic breed but we can hardly wait!!

We found the puppy pads/mat really useful for training. Mat and pads available free to a needy home! Just let me know. We are getting a new puppy in early January and I am dreading training her (with previous dogs we've always had a garden and now we live in a high rise apartment!). How do puppy pads/mat work? Excuse my ignorance! Love some tips on training! Thanks.

Was that recently Shell FC? I know many people who assume you are safe to go up to 38 days but no more - we let my Mum's run over by 5 or 6 days in February and weren't fined. Maybe it has changed though.
