We have just moved out and thought our neighbours were going to move in but they are quibbling with the landlord about the price so I have asked a friend who is an agent to start marketing it. So really we need someone in the next few weeks! Fantastic landlords too, one of the sovereign wealth funds, full H&G package included. Here is the link on Dubizzle - http://dubai.dubizzle.com/property-for-rent/residential/villahouse/2012/2/20/3-4-bed-maids-zulal-in-lakes-full-lake-vie-2/?back=L3Byb3BlcnR5LWZvci1yZW50L3Jlc2lkZW50aWFsL3ZpbGxhaG91c2UvP3BhZ2U9MSZwcmljZV9fZ3RlPSZwcmljZV9fbHRlPSZiZWRyb29tc19fZ3RlPTMmYmVkcm9vbXNfX2x0ZT00JnBsYWNlc19faWRfX2luPSZwbGFjZXNfX2lkX19pbj01NzUwNiUyQyZrZXl3b3Jkcz0maXNfYmFzaWNfc2VhcmNoX3dpZGdldD0wJmlzX3NlYXJjaD0xJmFkZGVkX19ndGU9JmZ1cm5pc2hlZD0mbGlzdGVkX2J5PSZzaXplX19ndGU9JnNpemVfX2x0ZT0mYmF0aHJvb21zX19ndGU9JmJhdGhyb29tc19fbHRlPQ== This has been our home for almost 7 years and the view is amazing, great place to live! We are only moving because the kids are grown and sadly we lost our old doggie a few months back :(

My DH is in the same situation - for years he went to Dr Smilie at Dubai London Clinic, on Beach Road - this place is close to Barsha maybe wprth giving one of their other GP's a go, that is what my hubbie will do.

Check Pull and Bear (MoE, Dubai Mall and MCC) for cheaper jeans but decent quality, my son loves their T shirts too! Bra's - have you looked at H&M's selection? Also Bendon in MoE, is a NZ lingerie chain. If you are a Bravissimo girl and need to restock here I just found the Panache brand at Bare Essentials in the Jumeirah Centre on Beach Road, lots of colours and sizes!

Also do a search on Dubizzle with short term to rent option, there seem to be quite a few options there but of course the dates you want might not be available!

Thanks tkoshy, we accomodate our new employees in an aparthotel so this hamper just gives them a start in the kitchen. I will certainly buy noodles, the plainest variety I can find.

I have to put together a basket of useful food items for a guy who is joining our company from China, I usually include - cheese, cereals, bread, yogurts, milk, tea, coffee, chocolate, fruit, nuts etc Enough for breakfast or a sandwich if they arrive hungry! Please give me suggestions as to what would be most suitable to include. Thanks!

I finally got in contact after sending an SMS to the emergency number that hadn't been answered before! The sad thing is that my washing machine is rather terminal, it's motor is dead and needs a new one and it isn't worth repairing as I know that this 2k would only be the start of the bills, anyway we hit Sharaf DG and bought a new one, not another Miele as they start at 6k now!

I think it is a lovely idea and not bad luck, when I gave up work to have my son I got lots of gifts from people (I was in sales not a teacher). It's nice to hear you have had such a good experience with their teacher.

Have you got an E-gate card? If you have then you would probably be OK, assuming both your passports allow visas on arrival in Oman. edited by Cornish Pixie on 09/02/2012

He will still have to go and have a medical before his passport gets the Visa stamp, on entry immigration will just stamp the form itself! No problem living in UAQ and having a Dubai issued license (that I am aware of anyway!), you will be asked where you live at the RTA though so if you are in short term accommodation then just use that address. The rental company should just accept his home driving license, the actual UAE visa will take about a week to be stamped in anyway these things are not fast tracked!

Adding to my post below - Another thing - is your DH's visa actually stamped into his passport or does he still have to go and have the local medical? If it is just the visa approval and not yet stamped then there is nothing to stop him renting a car at the airport with his UK/International driving license.

Many thanks for that. We actually both had eye tests done last week in the UK - can we take that prescription or does it have to be a UAE optician? These won't be accepted, you have to have a special form completed by an optician here, as someone said, most places do them for a fee of about AED 200. There is a new RTA centre in Al Manara/Safa that would probably be the quickest place to get your DH's UAE license, they issue them on the spot. Do you know what his position is stated as on his UAE visa? If it is Manager or above you don't need an NOC from the company, if not he needs to get them to write him an NOC (most companies have templates of these and produce them in a few minutes but if his visa is a freezone one then he has to ask the freezone to write one and they take a day or so) When it comes to getting your license DH will have to give you an NOC as he will be your sponsor. Hope this makes sense!

Diamond Lease will rent you a car with a driver, Hertz also do this. It is far more expensive however! Make sure you do the VIP driving programme with Emirates Driving Institute, one of my colleagues got her license in 3 weeks!

Mirdiff Flea Market too, run by the same people as Safa. Good way to shift unwanted stuff, we did the january one and plan to do the February one too! We too are moving and downsizing BIG time so lots of stuff has to go. Some things sell well on Dubizzle too, we have raised quite a bit of money from selling our surplus. I have also given away quite a lot too!
