Windsor Manor is quite a nice new building on the outer edge of Business Bay, very near the new Radisson Hotel. I think Better Homes are the main agents, I know one of our guys got a 13 month contract for the price of 12 months a few months back. No idea if the pool is heating/chilled though sorry!

I suggest The Gloria Hotel Apartments on Sheikh Zayed Road. They are a decent size and there is a playroom for the kids, with staff nannies so you can leave the kids for a few hours, but I appreciate you'll be bringing your own maid but she would have somewhere to take the other two while you are delivering the 3rd, they have lots of colouring and toys I am told.

To you too! Did you find homes for your furry friends? We are still missing our old beagle but are not sure we are quite ready to take on a puppy again. I work full time and my DH is out of the house most of the day too!

I think it will depend on exactly where they build it! Behind the old sign for Dubailand on the diagonal corner of that massive intersection would seem ideal and not inconvenience AR at all however if they built it behind the Ranches (between Emirates road and the Outer Dubai bypass) that might be a different matter!

I see where you are coming from IzzyDubai but they (Nakheel) should have introduced a method of chasing these owners up before instead of holding tenants to ransom at this late stage, it sounds like some landlords owe thousands and thousands of dirhams and they don't know what to do to get the money back, forced sale of the property comes to mind but these take many months to arrange!

I agree GattaMatta. We own an apartment in Belgium and the quarterly breakdown of how our service fees are being spent is very precise, we also have a sinking fund that is there for big ticket renovations and anyone who gets into arrears is taken to court to pay up. The system here is so completely different and it allows owners not to pay their service charges hence affecting the whole complex, not just their own unit/tenant. I think the developers introduced fees but never substantiated how the money was/would be spent (no auditing that I know of) and now that the steering committees are trying to take over management of buildings/complexes these same developers are trying to claw back money still owed from years gone, and in some cases a property has already been sold on and the new owner is being chased to pay old arrears from before, and that is hardly fair either! What a complete mess this situation is, and I don't see an easy solution :(

It has a weak storyline but I enjoyed it all the same, the atmosphere in the cinema was wonderful! Go, it's pure escapism for a couple of hours, and it only costs AED 30 - where else in this beautiful city do you get such good value for money?

But why do tenants continue to play into the hands of greedy landlords. If everyone just refused to pay 1 year up front, then things would change. It's a renter's market but landlords still seem to be on top. How I wish this would change! A few years ago when they (RERA) reviewed the rental laws here most of us who work in this field would have welcomed a shorter rental contract with monthly rents BUT I think the owners/landlords do not want this change to happen and they have a bigger voice.

DH just told me that DP informed him there is an annual renewal fee of 1500 AED?? Is this true?? I thought it was 500 and even that is nor right as the law says it should not be more that 160! edited by Eli1979 on 19/12/2011 I think this is illegal - read the following article. http://www.arabianbusiness.com/dubai-s-brix-property-admits-overcharging-tenants--431499.html

Just to play devil's advocate here, why should you have access to beach, gym etc if the owner hasn't paid his service charge. BUT the tenant has paid the rent UP FRONT and in good faith to have access to facilities. The poor old tenant is the one who always suffers in this city, he is the easiest to cheat and has few repercussions to the (often absentee) landlord.

I am becoming increasingly concerned about tenants rights here. My job involves helping people move into Dubai and I get the feeling that before any one of us signs for an apartment/villa we should check the credit worthiness of the future landlord. I intend to contact RERA and see if there is a method of doing this easily and cheaply, the onus is on the tenant to pay everything up front for a year but there is no protection it seems from the landlord reneging on their responsibilties.

You will still need to import the dog in the normal way, have a vet/health check on arrival and all the paperwork in order. I suggest you contact one of the specialist pet relocators and confirm exactly what you need to do! Just a cautionary note, I am not sure where you plan to stay when you get here but NO hotels or aparthotels here will allow dogs. Good luck with your move.

I saw one last week upstairs in the Union Coop on Al Wasl Road, opposite Safa Park. I can't remember exactly how much it was but I do recall thinking that it wasn't horrendously expensive. It was a about a metre high.

My DH has has root canal treatment done by him and he actually fell asleep while he was doing it, not sure that you'll be able to go that far but he certainly rates him very highly - and he is more reasonable than going along Beach Road to a fancy surgery in a big villa.

Do check with Al Wasl Properties how much the rent will be for a new tenant and if the new tenant will have to pay commission. We are trying to escape our lease early too and would lose 2 months rent if we leave before it expires, we aren't leaving Dubai though only downsizing so unless they will release us we'll just stay til the last day!! Good luck, a 4 bed in Jumeirah under 200k is good value.

I was trying very hard to get hold of you last week as our dog died unexpectedly and I was looking for a new puppy. We have now found one, a neighbours Jack Russell has a litter and we are taking one from her on January 1st. I hope you find lovely homes for all your furry babies! Has your neighbour got anymore? She had 5 but I am not sure how many have found homes yet, I havent got her number on me but leave me your email and I will send it to you later. I feel I should not post it on EW, it seems hardly fair!
