I have been to the Arte Souq a few times recently and there are simply too many jewellery and cake stalls, I have bought things in the past but now I feel a bit overwhelmed.

Take the SZR towards Abu Dhabi, take the exit after MoE (by Wellington Int School), follow the underpass round to the left then follow signs towards Emirates Hills (Meadows, Lakes,Greens etc), you go right (Jebel Ali racecourse will be on your left and TECOM on the right, two sets of lights straight on, turn right just before Regent School, then turn left at the first roundabout - Fairways are down there. I think there is some visitor parking and street parking too nearby.

Minutes branches (MoE, Mercato etc) do business cards and they only take about 30 minutes, you check the art work and then they print them straight away, I can't recall how much they are but not very much!

When SnS receive the package they weigh it and a) advise you that you have something in your mailbox and b) what it weighs. You actually pay for the onwards delivery when they deliver it to you, in cash. But as you know the weight you can work out how much it will cost (in case you have to leave the cash with someone else etc). HTH.

I just ordered capsules from the Nespresso Club in the UK as they are so much cheaper, they average 30p per capsule as opposed to 45p each here! I am getting my kids to bring them out at Christmas!

Once the water is heated up, it takes less electricity to maintain the temp than heating the whole tank from scratch, so it's better to leave on all the time . We tested last year and decided leaving them on was cheaper, also less stress on the tank as there is less expansion and contraction (so I was told!).

Etisalat have a pay as you go monthly package for AED 49 that allows you to BBM and use facebook but does not let you access email. It is very simple to subscribe to, all you do is text the following - R BIS49 and SMS this to 1010 (there is a space after the R) This has worked for both my kids when they are back home from the UK, you just need to make sure there is sufficient credit on the phone each month, and if there isn't the service will just stop (so you don't even have to cancel it when you don't want it any longer).

Sorry MorningCat - it had slipped my mind. I just went and had a word with our PRO's and after much discussion they can't think of any reason why that person can not rent in their own name! I also just remembered that one of our (female) directors husband's (who she sponsors) rented a studio back in the summer, and I did not have any hassle doing the paperwork with DEWA etc. CP x

There are NO pictures available on the EW classified site, I did have to laugh at one ad 'Abstract picture 51 x 52 cm' - no chance of selling without a photo. Sort it out please!!! Dubizzle is brilliant, the ads are up straight away and you can pull them yourself too when the item has sold - very sensible!

I can not be 100% certain but I will ask at our PRO's at work on Wednesday, it might be possible but with an NOC from your sponsor (ie husband). I will get back to you after Eid, sorry not to be more decisive but I would hate to give you the wrong information.

Call 991 - this is the DEWA emergency number and they should be working 24 hours a day, even over Eid. You will be given a job/reference number when you call and this is the number they will refer to from then on. When the engineers are on their way to you they will call you BUT they never seem to have any credit so if you get a missed call make sure you call them back or you won't hear from them again!!! If nothing happens in the first hour you need to start rehearsing for RADA - tell them you have a young baby and a sick child and pretend to start crying, this works especially well with the men on the phone..................! Good luck!

The Green Community Terrace Apartments have huge terraces. The ground floor apartments have a large terrace area that a lot of people have partly grassed over. Thank you, I can now add this to our list of possibilities! San, we are like you - own company - still to to make it pay it's own way, I work full time and no assistance, our kids have left home and we don't need a 4 bed villa any longer although I will miss it :(

DH's husband.......??? There are numerous single storey villas about, contact DRE (Dubai Real Estate and if you contact them direct there are no agents fees to pay Tel 04 345 1111)- they have the single storey villas opposite Park n'Shop and more called Palma Spring (I think) behind Wellington International School - however I think all of these have a maximum of 4 bedrooms. Many 2 storey villas have a bedroom downstairs with a full bathroom, often families who have regular visits from elderly relatives opt for one of these.

Google a company called PK Rent - they manage lots of furnished apartments (especially in The Greens) and might be able to help. I remember once a lady was allowed to have her dog in Nuran in The Greens too - it was an exceptional arrangement though!

DEWA do check outstanding balances when you go to open a new account and from my experience they will not open a new account until the old one is cleared, when a tenant leaves a property they should give the final bill with a paid stamp to the landlord to prove they cleared the account - it sounds like the old tenant ran away without doing this! So I see it as the landlords responsibility to clear the account to enable the new tenant to open their own with DEWA - all I can say is good luck, I loath the system here as it puts all the responsibility onto the new tenant and seems to absolve everyone else, when you have just paid AED xxxx to rent a new place and then you get this hassle thrown at you it hardly seems fair does it? It's not your bill to have to pay but DEWA don't care, they just want it paid by someone and this is the easiest solution for them!

Excuse my ignorance, but where are "Old Town" and "Downtown"? If they are the original parts of Dubai, as I would assume from their names, surely there would be more mosques there than anywhere else? Way off the mark! They are the low rise, 'traditional style' apartments near the Burj Khalifa! Built about 3-4 years ago.

I would call a vet's surgery and ask who you can call to ask. Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic might be able to help 04 340 8601/050 754 0226 I would also ask the security guard on the gate to your community - chances are the owners have informed them the dog is missing!

The Greens, Springs,Meadows and Arabian Ranches were all built without including mosques in the first phases, they built them many years later...................so if you wait long enough may be one will be built. I love the sound of the mosques, and I am an expat!

I have always been taken into a private consulting room to have my blood taken, this has been the case twice at Cedars Hospital near Jebel Ali Port and then at the government hospital Al Baraha just off the Corniche in Deira. I do pay for the VIP service, it is worth the AED 100 or however much it costs as they lead you through the process from A-Z. When I rented direct, I filled out all the registration forms for housing fee, but I was never charged it. It's all very hit and miss, some areas seem to get charged and others not. DEWA use the information gathered from when you sign up for your account - you have to present your tenancy agreement then and it is from that rent that the 5% is based upon. It makes not a scrap of difference who your landlord is - Emarati, local company or expat owner. We rented our villa initially in 2005 direct from Emaar and have always paid the 5%, right from the first DEWA bill we received - the one good thing is that we still only pay the rate that we started on and the rent is now substantially more - I just hope that they don't decide to review this!

My husband has orthotics (from the same place as you) and it has changed his life - he was in agony before and he now skips along like a teenager again (well not quite but you get my gist!). My DH always takes the innersole that comes with the shoe out (he does this to try them in the shop too) and sees how comfy the fit is with the orthotic inserted. A friend in the UK who has very tiny feet and orthotics finds M&S shoes are some of the best for her. Good luck, I hope you are soon out of pain.

This is what they told me: from the minute I process the paperwork and pay the deposit I will be liable for the bills - was this guy wrong then? This was at DEWA Main. Can I go now - do forms and pay deposit THEN in say 2 weeks time, call them and say " Turn it on" ? As DEWA told you - once you pay the deposit and reconnection fee the bill will become your responsibility.

Go over Garhoud bridge and follow the Sharjah direction but stay in the far right lane and then take the first slip road off, I don't know what it's signposted to! You come to a T junction, go left then at the end of that service road, go right and at the roundabout straight on - Al Tayer is on your left but you have to go to the first U turn to get to it! edited by Cornish Pixie on 23/10/2011

I have seen prices going up in certain areas - Arabian Ranches, The Meadows, Victory Heights and The Lakes. However these are all quite established areas now and people know what they are getting for their money. I have been looking for a 4 bed Alvorada in AR for the last few weeks and they are like hens teeth! Areas like Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim remain bouyant with good villas going fast. However in JVT and JVC, The Villa and other 'new' areas the prices are still competitive as there is more supply than demand. I think the market has stabilized and people are being more selective, villas in poor condition will no longer rent (unlike in the old days when people took anything at almost any price just to have a roof over their heads), it will be good when landlords keep their properties well maintained, updated and renovate as they need it - this is still not the case. We are also still miles away from the normal monthly rents that most of us from the western world know and prefer, signing up for 12 months with the option of paying 2 months rent to 'get out of the contract' is expensive and not very realistic in this city these days. Also I still think it's wrong that the tenant bears all the commission cost and the landlord none - if these were shared it would help and soften the blow for new tenants.

I don't think you have to have a referral anywhere, you could just say annual check. I have had them done here at Allied Diagnostic in Satwa and Dubai London Clinic (Festival City or Beach Road).
