Saheels are either 3 or 5 bed and the ones we saw were not well located, either on a corner or miles away from the communal pool etc. Thanks for your help AdviceSeeker, amazingly AR is full - I think because meadows/springs/lakes are all looking a bit dated if not renovated, AR is at an all time high!

I know you do this all the time, so I'm sure you've already checked Dubizzle, but I did see quite a few advertised properties, none of them any good? No B1's on Dubizzle and only 1 B2 that his wife does not like the 'flow' of the interior. There is next to nothing to rent in AR - I really am clutching at straws!! Oh and I am not a real estate agent if anyone is wondering......just in case!!

Yum used to lick it off the attachments from the whisker ( not when it was plugged in of course) me and my big bruv used to fight over it! My kids still do! I almost prefer the uncooked mixture to the baked cake, actually both are delicious!

My DH went to see Dr M yesterday and fell asleep for an hour in his chair, while he was excavating a root canal - that man must be good, I am always a nervous wreck the moment I sit in a dentists chair. If my DH can find the place I am sure you will fairycakeyumm, love your name - it makes we want to nip to Magnolia in my lunch hour!

Most of the companies use agencies to source the people for their stands! My son was offered a job by Blackberry last year after working on their stand during GITEX but he got the original job through a promotion company!

Treat yourselves and spend your last Christmas in a lovely hotel. That would probably cost them all their savings.....rates over Christmas/New Year are crazy! One year we had too many people coming to Dubai to accommodate them all with us and a good friend lent us her apartment, really I think you need to be cheeky and email all your Dubai friends and someone is bound to be heading back for Christmas 'at home' - you could even offer to pet sit and make the deal more attractive to them too!!!

Many apartment rents include the AC running costs, all the Emaar buildings for instance, this can save you a fortune in utilities bills. There are 2 bed plus study in The Greens from 95k where AC running costs are inc however beware of Motor City and the Green Community because the rents might be lower BUT you will have to pay AC usage charges, and they are expensive!

Are you British? If you are you'd be able to get child benefit for each child so you can add that into the $ pot too. Accomodation/rents are cheaper in the UK but utilities are expensive and council tax too. Also communting in London is tiring and expensive too. When the kids need to go to school would the company here pay the fees? In the UK they'd be free from age 3, something else to consider. I really don't know what is best to suggest but hope you soon start sleeping better, it doesn't help decision making! ;)

My last 4 DEWA bills have averaged 5'500 AED per month. We are moving because of it. It is simply not fair. We are also considering moving into an apartment where the AC costs are included, we rattle around now the kids have left home and whilst it'll be a stretch when they do visit we can save thousands a year by moving!

I'm back again with more figures.:) Ten years ago for Jan 2001 my bill was as follows. Electricity 355 Water 308 Sewerage 51 [b'>Total 714[/b'> Convert that same bill to today's figures and include the slab tarrif, surcharges and housing fee on rental of AED105,000 (huge 5 bed villa in Jumeriah, those were the days) and the bill would look like this Electricity 655 Water 462 Sewerage 55.61 Housing fee 437.50 [b'>Total 1610.11[/b'> I compared our bill from August 2010 to August 2011, we used less electricity but that part was almost 50% more than last year, there have been some big hikes in prices this year.

Do you know how much the annual rent on your property is? Housing fee should be 5% of that divided by 12, as you pay it monthly - no more, and I don't beleive they can backdate it. Good luck and cheer up! edited by Cornish Pixie on 04/10/2011

Your DH might have to go to DEWA to collect the old deposit, I have never closed an account here for anyone else so i can't help you there, I hope you still have the original deposit slip - I think they still insist on only paying out with that as proof!

Your DH does not need to give you a letter, I do them for all our new people and on average visit DEWA 3 x a week and have never been asked!

Good point, CP! What do you need to get a new DEWA supply - copy of new contract and - anything else? They will transfer the deposit, right? Thanks. I haven't done this before on my own ( without company guy if you see what I mean. The old spoiled days! :D) You can try to transfer the deposit but I am not 100% certain it can be done at the same time - you might end up without a DEWA supply in either the old or new property, I would ask for a final bill when you are doing the new connection and see if you can close one and open the other. Copy of contract Ownership papers if property is in a freehold area with matching passport copy of owner Your passport/visa copies Apt AED 1000 deposit / Villa AED 2000 deposit Reconnection fee - normally AED 110 but I was charged AED 210 for a Palm villa on Thursday (I queried it and they told me it was a big meter!!!) ...............and time, the staff there work at their own pace. I have found DEWA in Discovery Gardens are quicker but they close at 3.30 and my office is by the Burj Khalifa so going there does not make much sense!! edited by Cornish Pixie on 01/10/2011

So my DEWA bills have consistently been about 3000 Dhs, which we thought was excessive, but reasonable given what everyone else was using - But my DH just ran into the DEWA man outside who was changing the water meter - because apparently it hasn't been working! Does that mean our bills are going to double??? Our DEWA meter was changed in early August but the next bill was still around the same as the previous months - I was very worried that it might have doubled!

DEWA have become very poor at connecting the supply, it is frequently taking 3 days at the moment so don't delay getting that utility sorted out as the villa/apartment can not be cleaned well if there is no power/water!

I have bought leather ones from Longchamps as 50th birthday gifts but that was when we lived in Brussels and I don't think there is a dedicated Longchamps shop here. However last Christmas I did buy a silk one from a stand in Arabian Ranches, from memory it is outside of Burger King and has all sorts of gift ideas.

WIS = Wellington International School, sorry! In fact these villas are on the right after that exit from the SZR, so more behind Fraser Suites than the school if I am being honest (too many years here and I now describe place locations very loosely!). These villas are finished and have been there many years!

I certainly would not describe the market as flooded, in fact good villas are few and far between and Dubizzle is misleading as the same villa is frequently being marketed by 4 or 5 different agents! If a property is on at 295k I would offer 270k and be happy to agree on 280k but some LL's will not shift from their asking price and if you want it you will have to pay their price! Good luck!
