Masafi never recycle bottles, so they won't take them away. We have been known cut them in half and use for punch when having parties, apart from that I can't think of another use. Our delivery man always takes our empties away!

I went to a leaving party in the summer and Appetite catered that, the food was amazing - especially the individual portions of fish and chips, and the raw tuna!

Years ago one of my cats returned with the remains of someones Sunday joint, I let him eat it (rationed out) as I didn't think anyone would fancy it much after he had dragged it home. I am sure to this day someone in Englefield Green, Surrey, still wonders who took their cold joint off the windowsill !!

Victory Heights, Green Community Motor City are two more possibilities. You should be able to drive around without any problem, just say to security that you are thnking about renting a villa there!

The reason I chose to lease is that I get a company car allowance but need to give them an invoice each month. My DH negotiated hard and got me a very fair price, if you leave your email address here I will tell you but I prefer not to say on an open board as they might not give others the same deal!

Now I am actually leasing my car from National on a 4 year deal, including insurance, servicing, tyres, hire car replacement when off the road etc But I recall the price to buy from Al Tayer was around 100k. It costs me around AED120 to fill the tank when the fuel warning light is on!!!

I have one, I think that using the Max on the AC really uses heaps more petrol, I had a 2005 model before and they are quite thirsty cars, but saying that I am delighted with my new one!

We are in The Lakes and live in the equivalent to a 1E in the Ranches. Our bills are maximum AED 1600 excluding our housing fee, in the winter they drop to AED 350-500. There are just 2 of and a dog but my DH works from home so at least one AC is on all the time!

My DH is working for a company called wordy dot com - an online, 'crowd sourced', copy-editing and proofreading service that operates via an international team of qualified editors - he mentioned the other day that the company is looking to recruit Middle East based editors. My sister in the UK took the online qualification test (which is quite challenging!) and she passed (her background is copywriting). If you pass the test and are appointed a wordy editor, then you can take on jobs online and earn a good fee - just a thought :)

We have a bee's nest in our garden too and I don't know quite what to do with it either, it seems wrong to kill them but I don't want them flying about in such large numbers once we are outside again, and have the doors open all day!

It is quite normal to hassle a tenant to get the deposit paid ASAP but do make sure that you have seen the ownership documents with matching passport/visa of the owner BEFORE you pay this 5%. The agent should be able to provide these to you straight away (if they are professional anyway). As far as paying the rent - ask for a date to start the lease that you are comfortable with and that you can get the funds here in time for, don't let the agent put you under too much pressure.

Does anyone rent a Granada or a Cordoba? Are there any new (unlived-in) and newly landscaped, with properly functioning pool, available for rent? How much are they going for? How many beds and baths? I've not visited for a year (yoo-hoo, Cornish Pixie, how you doing?!) and we have a potential change in circumstances I'd like to be fully armed for. I have never been back since that day either, hopefully access is better these days!! Hope you and the family are all well and DD likes her new school. Take care xx edited by Cornish Pixie on 01/09/2011

The Gulf News is from much earlier tonight, I don't mind but if I get up at 5.15, walk the flippin' dog, make my packed lunch and then find out it is Eid I will be mightily upset! Eid Mubarak!

I have sensitive eyes and wear waterproof mascara, and have tried every single remover from the expensive to the cheap and the best one I found and have used for years now is The Body Shop's Camomile eye makeup remover. Its soooooo gentle but removes every little trace of eye makeup Funny this one makes my eyes sting and water!! I like L'Oreal but sometimes find it out of stock.

We lived in Oman many years ago and had a licence, the liquor shops were always closed throughout Ramadan though. We have popped a few bottles inside our luggage when going through the Hatta border and never encountered any problems, it's a very half hearted check.

Thanks Lynney. I know in the UK/Europe hospitality companies put together 'packages' with transport/access passes and coordinate everything, maybe there are companies outside of the UAE doing this sort of thing for AD and none based here.

I hate it when people blame the relocation company/consultant, truthfully 140k is not a very big budget and the choice will be limited to Springs (in poor locations) and apartments in JBR, maybe The Palm on the wrong side of the street, small Al Reems in Arabian Ranches - if they are lucky etc etc.
