I think the folk who smoke in our office are smoking on the stairs too, or in their cars...! I am really missing my green tea at my desk but we are socialising more in the coffee room!! ;)

I just had a look! There are not many and the 3 beds are from around 220k and the 4's from 240k and upwards. This is the going rate and they have gone up by around 10% this year on last years prices, AR is in high demand and they rent out fast! (I don't think they are sooooo cheap!!)

A colleague of mine recently moved into a 2 bed Springs and he is convinced his old 2 bed apartment in JLT was far bigger, the bedrooms are tiny in the 2 bed Springs.

Get your DH to write a permission letter for you to arrange the Du onnection for him (it would still be billed to him but that isn't an issue). I do them all the time for my colleagues and there is never a problem!

Are these roles not unpaid and voluntary for people living in that particular community? In time I am sure companies will be set up to take over from the big developers like Emaar and Nakheel but right now I think they are just working alongside and using different contractors to do the work needed.

I know that the hotels in RAK are still serving all day and the rules are far more lax than in DXB, it might be worth calling the MMI place up there and asking if they are open for business as usual too. I too would like to have the directions to the place in Ajman, I heard it is near the Kempinski Hotel but I would like some good instructions!

As far as I know none in Dubai offer this but you can get lots of dinners/lunches which are including beverages. When we stayed at The Hilton in RAK there were people on an all inclusive deal there (with Virgin Holidays I recall), might be worth checking if Jebel Ali Hotel does it too. edited by Cornish Pixie on 17/08/2011

Nice villas but many have views over construction now. The access (both via Meadows and from Ibn Batutta side) are shocking and not showing any signs of being improved in a hurry and as Edna says they are expensive, 275k and upwards. Gardens small and open to everything, pools not much more than plunge style. Saying that are some lovely villas there and I have known many people to love living there. Oh and I didn't mention - Nakheel built, not the highest quality and the common areas are showing sign of neglect right now poor watering and landscaping being left to die. HTH and sorry to be so negative but I have had to change my opinion over the years on JI, I used to like them!

Quick question ladies.. Once the parcel reaches your inbox in the US, approximately how long does it take to get here? Allow 4-5 days but if it's over a weekend it can take a bit longer.

You might find that the AC is set quite low at work so you might still need your cardi occasionally. I know when my kids were at school here they both wore their sweaters during the day at school coz it was so cold inside!

I thought it was the landlord that has to register the contract not the tenant, as there is a fee to pay and the tenant is not responsible for paying this.

Search the supermarket noticeboards - Park n"Shop on Al Wasl Road is one of the best, also look on Dubizzle. Al Futaim (Toyota) have a second hand showroom on the SZR as do Al Tayer the Ford/Land Rover dealership, also on SZR just after Times Square.

The Radisson Media City still have their nightly themed buffets in The Chef's House, as someone else said alcohol will be served after 8pm. They are offering 33.3% discount on all bills this month too so it is seriously amazing value. Can you still use The Entertainer voucher with this offer during Ramadan CP? I don't think you can but you can always try!!

Are you married? Not sure about obtaining the pill if you are not. Contraceptives are available for anyone to buy across the counter in any pharmacy, you don't have to take along your marriage certificate. Everyone's health insurance's are different, I know mine covers repeat prescriptions and I am sure most will too. We have many GP's here too, you don't need to go to a specialist for every ailment. Good luck with your move! edited by Cornish Pixie on 08/08/2011

Wow, CP, whilst I absolutely agree with what you say, though I don't have your experience to have advised it with any confidence myself, may I ask if you've not been having too good a day? I don't think I've ever seen you so vehement :) I worked through the bad old days and got sick to the teeth with these people and I hate to see them rearing their ugly heads again! You know it's Thursday, I finished at 3pm (from the office anyway) and I'm quite happy, I just dread the gazumping starting again!!! Happy weekend everyone!

Hun, I think he's pulling a fast one on you guys :( Doesn't sound like he's selling, rather renting it out at a higher price. Leopards don't change their spots, the old style Dubai landlord is alive and kicking......don't let them win, be tough!

just came to find out that the LL may just be showing new tenants through so he can get a higher price instead of selling it as he has told us. Just had his "broker" come through with 2 sets of people looking at the house. He told us it was people interested in buying. But one of the men that came in today was asking me strange questions like if there was a maintenance contract and are we leaving the country is that why we are moving out? I said no, the landlord told us because you guys are interested in buying it and wanted us out by the 30th August. He turned to the Broker and said "is this for sale too?". we have only been here 1 year, he hasn't given us the proper notice period. He can't now lease it out at the higher price can he? After we were the ones to say 2 weeks ago we'd like to re-sign and brought it to his attention that he couldn't increase the price until next year with us in it. So he's given us notice saying he had prospective buyer. The way he was talking in his email sounded as if he had the buyer lined up already. Now I've let 3 different sets of people come through the house. 2 of them have come twice! Can you see the steam coming off my ears right now!?!?! Please don't move, your landlord is a lying b******d and is trying it on, go to RERA and lodge a case, if a landlord wants to sell he can't assume you will move, he should give you a years notice, same if he wants to move in himself. Stay put AT THE SAME rent as last year, that is your right, and tell him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

I love the Clinique Minerals - it's a powder too but gives a good cover that seems to last pretty well in the heat.
