Re Hamptons - I called them at 3pm with another query (I work in relocation) and no one has called me back yet, or emailed me - but they are not terribly efficient!

I've just had a look on their website, if it is one they have registered it is 200K with Lake View. That is one of the other criteria we can't have is lake view. I have a beagle who can jump a 6 foot fence so I'm sure I'd find him swimming in the lake many times with such a small fence on the lake views. he he he. I have a beagle too and I live in The Lakes, but mine is almost 9 now and gave up vertical take off soon after he arrived here over 6 years ago! We are on the lake but in Zulal, why not just add more fence to keep the little beast in?? The lake view is so nice especially in the evening as you get a breeze!

I just called our landlords and they have a Forat coming up at the end of August, it will be let out through Hamptons when the time comes. Sorry but no idea of the price!

The unit comes with a filter included, then you buy refills every 4-6 months for around AED75. Thanks I think I will buy one, they sound good and my hair feels very dry right now even using heaps of conditioner.

The water in our outside cold water tank is scoldingly hot, the gardener just came and asked what is happening. I just tried to work out how hot it actually is but the thermometer won't go above 42c!! Our villa seems to be experiencing odd problems right now - all water related. In summers gone by we always turned off the hot water heaters and showered in cold water from the tank but this year even that water is not cooling down enough (I guess if the water coming in from outside is over 50c then naturally it takes ages to cool down even inside a cool villa. I am so glad that we don't own our villa, on days like these it makes me count my blessings that the problems are being sorted out and paid for by our landlords!

Sorry October, it's been a busy week!!! Going to miss you at brunch today but we will toast you and the girlies! Claire - by the time I get to the UK October will be back in Dubai, I am not going til mid September and only for 10 days then :( I began a full time job in May and I am tied to my holiday entitlement these days!! I hope you are settled in back home again, I will give you a shout if I find myself that way. My DD so nearly went to the uni there but she chose Oxford Brookes in the end!

I am 52 and was lucky to be offered (and accept) a full time job a few months back, I am loving it too! The role was advertised on here! Are you still in relocation, CP, or have you moved on to pastures new? Either way, congratulations, if I haven't said so already :) I am still in relocation but now working 'in house' for a large company based near the Burj Khalifa!

I have just emerged from a horrible fight with an agent, we were deceived and lied to, then told well you could have walked away from the villa - after buying furniture and curtains already, I don't think so. In the end managed to negotiate the commission down by 25% - a moral victory if nothing else.

The Gloria and Grand Mid West are on the SZR in Media City. You should be able to get a 1 bed for a month with your budget. Google hotels.com or expedia and select the dates you want and I think some serviced apartment options will come up too.

hi Kylie, last month we had excatly same of your case, my husband went paid the 200 & they put 4 black point on his DL, nothing else, no need to woory about it Did you discover where you were supposed to have made this illegal turn? My boss got a text this week too and he has no idea where he is meant to haver committed this offence! My DH got a fine for being on a hand held mobile phone, he knows he wasn't and that the policeman was just writing down registration numbers willy nilly. Good revenue earners!

Some agencies/landlords are asking for AED 500 to draw up the new contract, for typing a few words even that is extortionate but 2% or AED 2500, that is daylight robbery. Please don't pay up!

Stop worrying BMAP - it is easy! Get an eye test done in an opticians, tell them it is for your driving licence. Go to the Burr Dubai Police HQ by the Gold and Diamond Park on the corner opposite MoE. As you enter go into the typing office on the left, they will type your application etc Your DH needs to be with you, or write you an NOC (take of copy of his docs if he does this), you also need 2 more passport size photos, photocopy of your passport and visa page (take original with you too just in case), money AED 410 for licence plus typing fee (AED40 ish), original driving licence too naturally. Once everything is typed go to the room where they check the paperwork and issue the licence, the guy on the desk at the back will give you a number - then you just wait. If you can bear to go early it won't take long, maybe 30 minutes! It is simple, believe me! Just one other thing double check they have issued it for 10 years, they made a mistake on mine and only gave me 6 months!

I have been able to get on from home (Du -The Lakes) but not from work in Emaar Square (but I thought we were Du there too, but perhaps we aren't!!). I have to say I have been 'looking' at some of the other active forums (well some are not very active) here in this region and EW is heaps better than any of them! Marina Res apartments are really nice but they do not have access to a beach, just pools. Lots of the apts in the marina are within walking distance to the beach and they have great views of the sea/marina. Take a look at The Torch building, great value right now!

It is on Um Suqeim Street the road that runs between Barsha and Al Quoz. On the same side as the Gold and Diamond Park. I just went in one day and they were really helpful, they sold me the top part for my bin and it was much cheaper than getting a new one.

He sorted it out over the phone but my DH is arranging for him to come to our house as the router is still playing up and cutting out once in a while, we then have to unplug it and it starts up again, works OK til the next time it cuts out!! All very frustrating!

Did that first! Unfortunately it is more complex than that as the router has had to be reset meaning that the previous network settings have been lost. DH has tried but reached the end of his tether (needs WEP key, security password, reconnecting all the laptops etc etc) - he didn't set it up and the guy that did is unavailable. At least we can plug into the wall and stay online that way - just v.annoying to lose wireless access in various rooms where we use laptops, tablets etc. So help still needed... thanks :)
