Ah, I think it may be too far out then. :-( I think the visa is almost done. He is getting the medical today. The relo consultant has said so long as he has a letter from his employer stating it is underway, it should be right. Is that your experience? (Feel I need to check everything she tells me now) You can indeed go ahead and rent a property while your visa is in process, lots of people do this. I know your DH has knocked Arabian Ranches off the list because of the commute but it really is very close by to Internet City!. I heard about a 5 bed villa in Victory Heights today, with a private pool, going for 205k - sounds a bargain!

You should find an agent that you like and ask them to find you a good tenant, hopefully said tenant will want to renew for Year 2 and you can do this all by email/scan/bank transfer etc or ask the agent to help out again and probably pay them around AED 500, they will then collect the cheque/issue new tenancy contract etc. Do take out a maintenance plan, it does make the tenants and your own life much easier! There is normally some extras to pay on top for parts so make sure the tenant will pay these and then get the money back from you.

When you go into any of the emirates Living communities the security man on the gate will give you directions, none of us know where all the streets are - life is too short to bother to learn them all!

I used him on Sunday this week, he picked up some company VIP's from Abu Dhabi drove to Dubai then took them back 8 hours later. He drives a black Caprice and according to the passengers he was a sensible steady driver. I would use him again if the need arose.

Hi BMAP, Welcome to Dubai! Lots of The Lakes villas are also a bit tired on the inside and out and from memory (actually I just cheated and got out the original lakes book of floor plans) there are only 5 bed villas in Maeen, there are none in the Deemas :( and none of the 4 bed villas have study's. I have been doing relocation for over 5 years in Dubai and you really should drag DH up to The Ranches, the villas are lovely up there and so much newer, you could get a lovely 4 bed Alvorada within your budget, and a Le Coleccion too. I live in the Lakes and will keep my eyes open while out walking the dog, there are bound to be a few people moving once the school holidays start. Good luck!

We had BUPA for years but as we got older the premiums became stupid, so we changed to a company called DKV and took advice from this broker in the UK, they were very very helpful! http://www.medibroker.com/

Are you meaning for a visa run? In which case, yes he can drive you there and YOU walk over the border, get your paperwork done and pop back to the car. Lots of threads on here about how to do it! I think for the Hatta border he'd need his passport because the distances are quite big but the Mussandam one would be OK because it's all walkable, if that makes sense!

We have been in The lakes for 6 years and I have never smelt cooking from next door, we are an End villa. Maybe get your maintenance people to take a look, perhaps they can see the cause. Are you sure it's not your maids cooking? I say this because I know the maids room AC is interconnected in our villa!

I have just been onto the RERA website and there is no information listed about this. I had heard that it was the landlord that is responsible for registering the lease, I will try to find out for sure and post the information though.

I don't honestly think you will find such a demanding service offered by anyone here, it would only really work if you were moving into an identical villa/apartment as the storage space available will be different in every unit. Perhaps hire someone to oversee your move both packing and unpacking, and meet and discuss wirth them beforehand exactly what you want where etc. I have moved about 10 times in 25 odd years and each move has been very different! I have always found that unpacking is far more stressful than packing. Where are you moving from and where to?

Don't try to use small electrical items with a transformer as they never work as well. Suggest you leave your smaller kitchen gadgets in the USA and buy some 220 models here to use while you live here!

Our school is supposed to start back on the 3rd. How is this possible, if Ramadhan starts on 1/8? Wouldn't the 3rd be in the middle of eid holidays? Which school is this? Most are going back after Ramadan and Eid this year.

The train stations and airports all over Germany are typically the only places you can shop on a Sunday, all the shops close at midday on Saturday and reopen on Monday, it drove me nuts for the 4 years I lived there but in many ways it was good as everyone had 'family' time unlike in the UK (and UAE for that matter) these days when shopping seems to be some peoples only hobby!

You need to be introduced before your first delivery. From memory I think they charge about AED 100 to deliver. The prices are more expensive than at Barracuda but it is convenient!

Happy Anniversary! I am from new york city go back 6 times a year and stay in hotels and have fairly up to date information on most of them, what is your budget? I would like to be of help! For a start, a very good option that is reasonable and away from the touristy areas along the river on the upper east side is The Bentley hotel. Great looking design hotel, the rooms are large, not full service amenities, but if you want to feel like a real native stay there away from times square, midtown and all the craziness. You can easily get to the craziness in a 10 min cab ride! We stayed in The Bentley Hotel a year ago, booked via Expedia, it was a great location - lots of local diners for breakfast and excellent local restaurants to have dinner in, walking distance to The Met and Central Park. I would stay there again if we returned, which is unlikely in the near future as DS is about to move back to London!!

ohh don't get me started on Vasta!! a very very popular and much sought after GEMS school who initially told me that they were full and had no seats had the balls to send me an email soon after telling me they could accommodate my request for DD into FS2 if I would consider paying a personal debenture of AED 120,000/- ( i have this in writing from them!!!) Is this money refundable when the child leaves the school? I jolly well hope so!

Right now there are very few good houses about but I would expect that to change in a month or so. You will be looking at a town house in The Lakes, 3 bed plus study plus family room for that budget. There should be plenty of agents about in the summer but some will take holidays as they have school age kids. Do some research on Dubizzle, that will give you an idea of prices.

Your budget will be your guide! Be open minded and go and see as many places as you can, also add The Lakes to your list as that is even closer to DC than the other options!

Why would the chiller fees be paid by the landlord ? Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that the ac. The tenant is using the ac not the landlord ? I don't get it. The chiller in many apartments is centrally controlled and buildings have big AC units on the roof, making it difficult to bill for each individual apartment, The Greens are like this for a start, the owner then pays for providing the AC in the annual maintenance fee. (Does this sentence make sense??) I know it does not sound very fair but without individual AC motors serving each apartment its probably the only way it can be worked out. In newer developments PDC and Empower raise bills for each unit by measuring consumption.

My hairdresser was off sick when I was booked in recently and the salon fitted me in with another stylist - could they not do anything? Seems terrible to let you down right at the last moment. I go to Pastels on the Al Wasl Road, my hairdresser is called Anise but I have been to Sam too, all of the girls there seem to be good, do a search on here and you'll see lots of the EW ladies recommending them. In case you want to give them a go here is the number! 04 394 7393
