Good luck in your new job CP I am sure you'll give it your best shot. Is it in the same line of work that you were already doing? It is! I will just be 'In House' rather than freelance.

I heard about Magrudy's but not Borders, honestly though it does not really surprise me - the rents in these malls is ludicrous for the smaller, lower profit, retailers.

I am not very optimistic that they'll find anything much, I recall a neighbours daughter doing some admin temping for Clarendon Parker (I think thats the agency's name anyway) one year but most don't find anything to do. Both my two work/ed in Europe all summer through, there is so little to occupy them here as most of their friends are away from the region on holiday all summer.

I am 51, turning 52 in a few months and I really don't think a lot about my age, I am fit and healthy and about to start a full time job (22 years after my last FT role!), it is rather exciting and I am determined to make the most of this 2nd opportunity in the career world! My Mum is 76 and still works, she is one of the happiest, most contented women I know - a true role model!

I have not read all the posts as this is such a long thread now but I just wanted to reassure people there is life after your kids leave home! My first left home almost 4 years ago and the youngest nearly 2 years ago, they are both very happy doing what they are doing and that makes us happy. On a positive note - I have worked part time here for years but I have just accepted a full time job, at 51 this is quite a daunting, but exciting prospect, after 22 years I am not sure how I will cope with the lack of freedom though!

Sky News is showing it from around 8am in the UK so 11am here, they will have goodness knows how many vantage points and Eamon Holmes is the presenter/anchor man (I quite like him but I am sure many people don't!!). http://www.officialroyalwedding2011.org/blog/2011/April/19/An-update--The-Royal-Wedding-Online

I think you'll find any of the jewelers will do this, even in the mall! I took a load of old/broken stuff into GB Jewelers near the food court and came out with some lovely new pieces, my Mum did the same!

Hi CazB, I have to admit to never having heard of that school and I do work quite often with people looking for schools. My best piece of advice would be to get on the phone and email and see which school might have places for your 3, I fear you will struggle to find them places in the same school and you should not delay a moment longer. Go through the EW school list and get going!

Try calling Archie on 050 653 7867 or 050 524 5135 or 050 243 9378 (I have no idea why I have 3 different numbers for this man!) His people do decoration and cleaning pre-leasing out of properties, so they should be able to assist and they have their own equipment!

Who sells wonderbra in Dubai? Have you looked in Debenhams? I think they do, at least I am sure I saw them in the Ibn Bat shop the other day. I struggle to find good strapless bras here, I ended up with an M&S one after trying on virtually every other bra in Dubai, I am still not 100% happy with it though!

We did one a couple of years ago and it was crazy - the grape vine on the maid/gardener network is the way to go, and it probably depends a bit on where you live. We are in The Lakes and they attract people from all over the place!

Many people who have more than one maid get bunk beds and the girls share. I know it isn't a perfect solution but perhaps you could discuss this as a possibility.

Funnily enough when my kids were 8 months and just over 2 years old we got transferred to Brazil from west Africa and it was the first time I left my kids alone, they stayed at my Mum'sin the UK and I hired a UK trained nanny for a few weeks (she already knew the kids and she'd worked for my SIL for the 6 months before) and they all survived, and I had a good time - although the apartment I so carefully found during that stay fell through and I had to start again 6 weeks later with both kids in tow!!

Hi there, Does the Marina Residence have access to the beach and pool? Also, how much are the two beds going for now on the palm, and are they more popular than 3 beds? Marina Residences have pool/gym access but no beach! Just done an apartment in Marina Res 4 and I am pretty sure there is no beach access, there is a little marina in front - the beach is at Tiara next door! Marina Residences 1,2,3 have no beach (I'm in 2), but I THINK 4, 5 and 6 - on the other side - may have beach access. edited by Cornish Pixie on 19/04/2011

There is a shopping mall on Jumeirah Beach Road that has been standing empty since the crash, but I understand they have some lovely apartments facing the sea. Can't quite remember the agency that handles these units (seven....something). Good luck with your search! These are the Sunset apartments. Call Dubai Investment Properties - Zaid Hameed on 050 551 2026 or 04 330 7333

Marina Residences have pool/gym access but no beach! Oceana - 2 bed units are available if you call round at about 190k and then you get the full beach access! Dubizzle is still the best place to get a guide on current prices, there are quite a few shoreline apts available but size wise/storage space Marina Res is way better value, and all the kitchens come equipped!

I'll be honest and admit that I have not read all the posts but just wanted to add that my sister took her then 8 year old son out of school for almost a year and it was an amazing experience but she did struggle to motivate him to keep up with his diaries/math etc. I have to add that he is now 11 and still a lazy little minx but the year was a great one for the whole family! The school (UK prep school) was very supportive and encouraged them to go!

Its 2 pieces for U.S: Always has been for economy: World Traveller Plus World Traveller Two bags 23kg free (up to 32kg at £40/US$60*) (see ba.com) This is how I read it, then I doubted my understanding - that's good news! I know people enjoy knocking BA but over the years we have flown with them a lot and have amassed quite a few air miles so this is actually a redemption flight. Last year we went to/from the US with them and enjoyed all the flights plus they are often so much cheaper than EK and as we pay our own tickets we care, big time, how much our flights cost!!

If they are low profile tyres then that is probably about right. I recently had to buy my Ford Explorer 4 new ones (not LP) and they cost AED 2900, the price was about the same in the 4 places I asked before deciding.

Another vote for Grace. However, have a think about the initials and that may be the deciding factor... If your last name is Donaldson or Thompson or O'Brien, you could have an M.A.D or M.A.T or a M.A.O--not too nice, eh? Just a thought! How funny, just what I was thinking! I also love the name Grace.

Just wanted to add that if you can rent direct from a LL you will save the 5% real estate agents fee BUT do check the ownership documents/passport copy/visa (if applicable) all add up to that property, before you hand any money over. Good luck!

Hi Sugarbeach - thanks for the heads up! That's why I was sticking with Better Homes as someone had said they were the best out there albeit with prices to match but take on board what you're saying. I have to work with real estate agents every day and I hate to break it to you but BH are terrible, they want their commission when you pay the security deposit on a place and then don't give a monkey's wotsits any more! Find Rachel 07's place on Dubizzle - that sounds a great deal to me, and JLT is getting better by the day - more shops/restaurants opening and the metro has made a big difference to the accessibility!

I am not actually a realtor, I am a relocation consultant - the difference being is that I am the in between person who coordinates between the client (you) and the real estate agent/broker - I charge a fee, and then you'd have to pay the RE agent 5% too. I am generally employed by companies to help their new recruits find their feet! No PM is allowed on EW - that is why you could not send one! There are a few RE agents on here - perhaps do a search, this thread is from a few months ago! http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=135491
