What about Turkey or Croatia? You may have to take an internal flight to get to the resort but I think they are both much cheaper than the western part of The Med.

Rent a villa in Cyprus through ownersdirect. Will still be very hot, so you need one with a pool. Rent an apartment in Malaysia. The flights are not terribly cheap, but it's not that expensive once you are over there. Cyprus is soooo expensive for food much more expensive than here !!! True.........but the wine's cheap! Hic! ;);)

Come out of JI at The Meadows exit and gety ourself onto the Al Khail Road (you have to turn right) Go up to the roundabout with the Emirates Road and then come back on yourself, onto the Al Khail road going towards Dubai, you will find the entrance to Jum. Village along there BEFORE the Barsha/Palm junction. Try to stay in the right hand lane or you may miss the entrance, sign posts are pretty poor (like all in of Dubai). Good luck!

Each year this situation seems to be getting worse earlier, I can't for the life of me understand why the schools don't increase their FS2 intake to be closer to their Year 1 capacity.

I had my pearls restrung at the jewelers near Carrefour, sorry but can't remember the name offhand. Cara at the Gold and Diamond Park will mend most things, in fact they'd probably string the pearls too and if they can't then there is another jewelers very close to them that always has lots of pearls in the window!

it might be a dangerous suggestion, but i figured that if i encountered the 'change' in the uae i would start popping the mini pill + the progesterone cream. I seem to recall reading on another thread that you are only 26 years old, I hope you have a few more decades until you are even approaching menopause!!!! :cool: x

Usually the contract is only signed by the LL when the money is/has changed hands, I would say that under the circumstances you should be able to return the holding deposit and tear up the contract, hopefully your 'tenant' will understand that your situation has suddenly changed. I don't think a claim by the tenant would hold up with the rent committee, should he try to take it that far, April is still over 2 months away and he has plenty of time to find something else and he is not out of pocket.

My Sri Lankan maid's husband got mine done in Satwa - it was far cheaper than the glass/picture framing place by Park n'Shop! Ask a local maid/gardener - they are bound to be able to help!

Yes for sure! Burj Residences are some of the best appointed and also Park Place, stunning bathrooms, and World Trade Centre Residences too. which are better? the burj residences/park place/ or world trade center? (i think i may have stayed at the world trade center residences in 2008--not sure though, they are serviced apartments?) o They are both serviced and longer lease rentals / unfurnished. Personally I love Park Place BUT they have no balconies which for me would be a real negative - I love my outdoor space. I fear you also need a unit larger than what is available (from memory I think 3 beds is the biggest). Sorry you are not finding this home search simple!

Can you ask security to identify which villa the barking is coming from and go and talk to the owners/tenants? As a dog owner myself I find it shocking that anyone can allow their pet to bark for hours and not deal with it, maybe the dog has been left alone and just a maid/gardener is coming by a few times a day to walk and feed him.

Sadly Dubai is not big on dream bathrooms and kitchens, it is still stuck in the 1970's. The newer Hattan's have some of the better bathrooms about but with a rental price tag to match - upwards of 450k! The villas in Arabian Ranches, Alvorada's and Le Collection can be OK too, as they are just a few years old but I would not truly describe them as luxurious - maybe you can plan to add a few luxury items to help upgrade the area!!

One more thing, do you find it difficult to find quality dog food in Dubai? We feed our dog the Iams brand but would be willing to feed another brand as long as it's a good brand and not just filler. Iams is available here too! Another tick on your list!!

I bought a really pretty black evening cardigan, you know the ones with the longer front tails that are all over the place now, and the back is lacy - it is quite dressy and very pretty. I got it in Forever 21 and it was Dhs 69 maybe worth a look. Black pashminas should be a doddle to find here, and they are always useful!

I think you should get someone professional to clear the dog but be at Cargo Village yourself too when your dog arrives and welcome him there. Our dog was only 3 when he moved here and he was quite calm when he arrived, not at all traumatised. We actually had ours delivered to the villa but it was the middle of the night and the kids were already at school and needed their sleep. I am sure she will soon adjust to life here, as you say she is part of your pack and dogs are ultimately people orientated.

I think there are restrictions in rental agreements that will not allow you to take a hired 4 x 4 off road, I know people do but if anything happens you'd be liable.

I think all the Emaar pools are heated in the winter months and cooled in the summer ones. Ours in The Lakes is kept at around 28-30c year round which is a nice temperature to swim in.

Always insist on seeing proof of ownership with a matching passport copy IN THE SAME NAME!!! Also if the owner has UAE residence you need a copy of that too. Any real estate agents worth their money will not even take a deposit ubtil they have these documents in their possession.

The original Omani silver is almost impossible to find these days, we bought our collection when we lived there in the 1980's!

There are some UK educated nannies who read EW, but I know it is a very complicated procedure to sponsor a European as a nanny here though, my friend struggled for ages to achieve this. Maybe one of the girls can help you out with some insider info. On the whole the UAE authorities seem to believe that domestic staff come from Asia or Africa, and not Europe!!

Hayya (where I go) charges around 7.5k for a couple and about 10k for a family. If you look up Hayya you'll see they have numerous locations. They have mainly Life Fitness equipment (plenty of it too) and all the locations hold classes, and most have swimming pools - all outdoor with heating/chilling. Beach Club memberships like Jumeirah Beach Hotel and The Ritz Carlton are outrageously expensive, some are around 40k a year, golf clubs cost about 15-25k I hope this helps!

I have known many kids who have been allowed to start in schools after the Spring/Easter break - I am not sure what the term dates are for this year but I know Easter is very late. The main problem is finding a school place, and I believe you'll find this a lot easier in March/April than in September. Personally I would try to find places for your kids to start at the beginning of the last term, last year I know of families who found school places in Dubai British School, Kings and Star Int. to start their kids then.

How about going to Dubai Mall or Souq al Bahar, you will get a nice view of the fountains there. Madinat Jumeirah offers heaps of options too, or lots of the hotels have places outside!

I think for 160k you will find something very nice indeed! Almost all apartments have one parking space with a 2 bed unit, and two spaces with a 3 bedroomed one. If you like to live near hotels/restaurants you could look around DIFC say Capricorn Tower or Park Place, both on SZR but on different sides of the road. Also World Trade Centre Residences are lovely and within your budget! You could even have a 2 bed apt in The Burj Khalifa if you fancied. Downtown Area is not really walking distance to a station though, it would be quite a hike! Do a search with www.dubizzle.com and put in DIFC as the area you are interested in and a range of rents from say 140k - 175k (you can negotiate here), Liberty Tower is mentioned many times but I have no knowledge of that building.

What pharmacies take unused or expired medicines? I have been laughed at when trying to give bags of expired medicines to a pharmacy for safe disposal. Perhaps ask in a branch of Boots, they seem to have rules more inline with the UK on selling medicines than most of the others here.

For a simple trip to the GP the cost won't be much over AED 300 but I'd suggest buying a travel insurance policy quickly, I don't believe it is too late even if the person is already away/here. Anything medically serious here costs a fortune!

Le Meridien mina seyahi beach resort Dubai has a really nice beach and there are vouchers for passes in the body book - my friend and I went it was just what we needed and you can order food right to the beach! Best burgers in the beach universe! lol Enjoy! I am off there today with my DD, best go and wake her up.....! AED 175 per person with The Entertainer voucher it's BOGOF!

The white villas with brown gates opposite Park and Shop, in the whole of that block. I think these are the old Sheikh Hamdan villas but I am not 100% sure. Try calling Dubai Real Estate on 04 345 1111, they 'might' be able to help.

What a lot of people do is rent unfurnished and then buy a houseful of furniture from Ikea (or somewhere similar) and then sell it all when they leave. You do quite often see second hand furniture for sale on the supermarket notice boards and it often looks almost new. Also bear in mind that very few villas come with white goods or curtains so budget these into your financial equations too!
