Hi Ladies, I need a bit of help. My husband is starting a new job in a couple weeks. We need to get his certificates attested in the UK. Can anyone recommend an agent or company that can do this for us? I have looked at Vital Legislation and they can do it but is will cost GBP 1000 as there are 5 document that need to be attested. Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. TIA It is very expensive but do you really need all 5 doing? We only ask our employees to get the highest qualification they have attested ie MBA etc. also marriage certificate and birth certificates for any kids.

How old is your son? Assume as he is finishing at 12.30pm quite young so you will have a maid at home, my only suggestion is to have the maid get a taxi to pick him up or you take your lunch hour and collect him then and bring him home. Many working mums struggle with pickups although drop offs are easy. Does the school have a bus service?

I always use the Michelin journey planner and it works well for us, they keep their maps updated and also know where you will come up against road works, plus you get a heads up of how much cash you'll need for the tolls.

I brought mine over from the UK on my last visit. Sacrificed a few pair of shoes for it as well as not everything would fit! Love my Chenille throws. You need to attend the travel centre at Al Mankool Health Centre, I think they are the only place authorised to give this restricted injection. If you do a search on EW you will find more details about this. As it is Ramadan I suggest to check opening hours.

2 years ago Shakespeare's in Souk al Bahar was open, last year they renovated it during Ramadan but it might be worth a look, sadly ALL the coffee shops in the mall shut, The Address hotel will have something open though.

You could probably get a teaching assistants job but they rarely offer sponsorship or perks like health insurance. This region is hung up on degrees but there are many people who live and work here who don't have one. With summer holidays and Ramadan on the horizon I suggest you calm down your search and resume it in September, why don't you spend few weeks here with your fiancé and try to meet agencies and trawl the job sites then, not many jobs are acquired here from home countries either most of us found them when we had arrived.

Salaries have not gone up much recently and unless your DH would be CEO or very senior then many companies have quit paying school fees and rent, you tend to get a salary for the job these days. Special needs support is still hard to find, any schools who offer it have a limited number of places. Not sure where to point you really, finding a place in a good school is hard enough right now although there are many new schools due to open this autumn.

They don't list surgeons on their website so can't research them individually. Will keep looking for you. Are you restricted to Rashid? My insurance covers most hospitals but only pays 80% at City and the American Hospital!

Lots of the compounds actually have wait lists so you may not be able to chose any, I visited a few weeks ago and life inside the compounds is very normal, no abayas etc. the malls are ok too but some shops are segregated.

I find Gabor shoes really comfortable, they are expensive but never give me blisters, they are leather lined too. There is a shoe shop in Town Centre Mall (where the EK hub is) that normally has a good selection.

Applications for employment visas are currently taking 7-10 days, once you have that 3-5 days after you've done the medical. Labour cards take 2-3 weeks to come after the residency visa has been stamped. Of course freezones are completely different, I am assuming you are working for a Dubai based LLC.

I'm sure they do - after all, haven't they made at least a 14% ROI in the last year? Isn't is because they don't want to get tied into long-term rental contracts at a price that is less than the required ROI of most investors because the sales price will be affected? If there is no mortgage sometimes it is better to just let the property sit empty than to have to deal with the rental laws. The rental laws work in favour of the tenant only for so long - when it is time to vacate the tenant will still have to pay market price. I love EW, you can always tell who the landlords are and who are the tenants! 14% ROI is a modest return compared to what some of the original owners are making, take a Palm villa - purchased in 2005 for approximately AED 3 million and now renting for 500-550k, those villas have paid for themselves many times over! I can't cry for landlords here, I just know that my living allowance hasn't increased for 4 years, when it was reduced by 20%!!

Many apartments and villas have been 'on the market' for quite a while and landlords are often open to offers, it really is worth a go. Historically I think rents go up in October as availability reduces. The apartment next to me and has been empty for months The LL refuses to reduce the rent. Well not all landlords have brains!!!!

If you are coming from the Abu Dhabi direction the slip road to the mall is shut so you have to go to the police academy on Um Suqeim Street and U turn, a right pain and it will be chaos later. Suggest approaching from the road that runs behind the mall!
