The metro link is open (I don't know at what time but it is certainly open from 7am). The mall parking is still free but fashion parking is closed until 10am so people tend to park in the Cinema Parking (or one of the others) and walk, it is a 10-15 minute walk.

As far as I know dogs are not allowed in any of the apartment complexes on The Palm, that isn't to say no one has a dog who lives there, but there is always a risk that you may have problems.

Nord Anglia is on Hessa Street, very close to Victory Heights. Call Jacky, she is a car hire broker http://www.jackyindubai.com/ Buddha is correct - about AED 1600. Glad to have been able to help!

I am assuming he has already left his job so his final salary has been paid in. HSBC should be able to do exactly what Di suggests below and transfer it into a savings account, you can have a debit card with that account but no cheque book.

I think Wonder Years is in Motor City so here goes! Arabian Ranches is very close, maximum 15 minutes even in rush hour (much quicker outside of it). Meadows/Springs approximately 15-20 minutes as Meadows 1/2 is much further away than Springs 11! Easy journey though - straight up Al Khail and cross into Motor City/IMPZ etc. DSO is a more difficult one, perhaps 20-30 minutes, this is very much a guess! You should add Victory Heights, Motor City, The Villa and Green Community to your list of possible areas to live too, all very accessible to the school. Furnished or semi furnished villas are hard to find here, if you rent in Victory Heights the villas all have white goods but in most other areas they don't even have them. There is a lot of 2nd hand furniture on offer on Dubizzle and EW Classified, prices are usually quite fair and you make a big saving compared to buying everything new. Perhaps start off by renting a 2nd car and then buy one when you are more stable financially, the set up costs in Dubai are very high so finding 50-100k to buy a second car is not always easy! Look at GEMS Metropole School in Motor City as an option in September, a new school but I personally believe in the GEMS group as they do deliver what they say they will, regardless of what you sometimes hear/read - yes they are a for profit business but 95% of schools here are! Also check out Nord Anglia and the school in The Villa, all opening new in September! (Links below) http://www.gemsmetropoleschool-dubai.com/index.php?parentid=1457 http://www.gemsfirstpointschool-dubai.com/ http://www.nordangliaeducation.com/our-schools/dubai Good luck and I hope your move goes well. edited by Cornish Pixie on 29/03/2014

Well buying an abaya is opening up a whole new experience of clothes shopping, I think I may follow the light headscarf route to cover my hair when I need to, the shayla sounds a bit complicated! Off to Riyadh not Jeddah, I am really looking forward to the experience and visiting a new country. Thank you everyone for all your help and advice. CP xx

I can recommend a shop called chic boutique at the village mall. She has all sorts of abayas and really fair prices. Her designs and fabric are really great too. And bonus is its half the price the shop next door:) Pashmina should be fine but abayas come with shalas ( the black scarf) and its usually lighter and cooler when wearing on the head. My opinion:) I don't normally wear abaya but when I do I opt for abaya and shala as its lighter and easier to wear. Best of Luck Thank you! What would a fair price be? I have no idea what I should expect to pay!!!

My DH has had a very similar pain and he is now seeing a physiotherapist, he saw the osteopath for a few session but was referred on. He has been told to stop using the computer mouse and to only use the track pad as his posture while on the computer has caused this! edited by Cornish Pixie on 22/03/2014

I think only real estate agents have access to online forms, you should go to a typing centre, Al Wasl PO or the Ejari counter n the Al Manara Centre with the following documents - Tenancy Contract Dewa account receipt Title Deed Passport and visa copies AED 195 They don't take long to do them!

I think it all depends where the office is in Abu Dhabi, if you are only going to near the airport it's OK but daily into the Tourist District would be a killer. Often salaries are higher in Abu Dhabi hence the attraction! Mind you I work in Dubai just 15 minutes from where I live and I am still out the house on average for 11 hours a day, these 8-6 days are a killer!

I think you have to go to the court to receive your judgement. None of it makes sense and it doesn't seem to make any difference what the law states! The law states in our case that the landlord cannot rent the property out for 2 years after serving an eviction notice and can only evict a tenant if they themselves are moving in or selling etc....... New tenants moved in 2 weeks after we moved out. This makes a mockery of the law, I am so sorry to read that you lost, I can hardly believe it.

The Springs 2 bedroom villas are tiny, I am quite sure far smaller than your apartment in JBR. The 2 bed villas in JVT and JVC are far more accommodating and newer, if not brand new. The problem is the infrastructure and that is where The Greens wins, there are ground floor apartments with terraces (small gardens) then you'd have the best of both worlds.

Ejari is required for all family and maids visas (dependents) but not to renew the main sponsor's employment visa. If you work at DIFC you will still need to get Ejari but apartments in DIFC don't have Ejari contracts so if you live there you don't!

As long as it's a good photocopy it should be fine. I took this one to the typing centre in the Mazaya Centre but I often use On Time in the Al Manara Municipality Centre or Al Wasl Post Office - none of these insist on the original.

It's just so depressing! I know 4 people in the last month who have received their 12 month notice to quit on the day they have moved into the apartment, so essentially making their lease non-renewable. It seems that this is the loophole that all landlords are using at the moment, on the pretense of selling, which of course they will not do. If anyone in authority thinks that the rental calculator is protecting tenants at the moment they are very much mistaken and the rent is escalating at a crazy rate. FFx This is totally disgraceful, I am going to have to watch out for this new tactic, the rent committee need to be alerted too - how completely unfair and dishonest these LL are becoming. I thought I had seen everything, it seems not. edited by Cornish Pixie on 09/02/2014

I had mine done in the MoE at the little photo shop near to The Body Shop - they also knew the rules for UK passports, in fact I did my renewal at the passport office in Victoria and the lady commented on the photograph - saying it adhered well and was obviously not taken in a photo booth!!!

EK do have a rule against transporting snub nosed animals, I think it is because they can experience breathing difficulties in flight. I would never risk turning up at the airport having concealed the breed/type of animal as it would be very traumatic for both the pet and yourselves if they didn't allow the pet to board, plus the expense - I doubt they would refund the cargo charges at such a late stage. Speak to some of the European airlines - BA, KLM etc. as I think they have different rules.

If Wednesday and Thursday are anything to go by the roads on the route will only be closed for about 20 minutes to allow them to pass safely, I don't think the traffic has been held up very much at all. But of course Saturday on the SZR is always busy so today might be the exception.
