Well we have been there now for around 4 weeks and we love it. There are maintenance issues with the houses as they are new builds and you certainly need to check the snagging list before it is signed by the landlord or it is very difficult to get work done if there is no one home during the week. The houses are very large and the area is really peaceful. But for the price I think they are great.

I'm moving in on Saturday, as Haim said the houses are quite large and cheaper than a lot of areas around. Am sure we will find out in due course how well they are made but I see that there are some small supermarkets around in Majan which will be handy.

I asked in the M & S Food Hall at MOE and they said it will be opening middle of August and there are plans to open up other ones later in the year.

Hi Natalia, welcome to Dubai. There are a number of different furniture stores in the malls depending on price - not too expensive are Homes R Us and Home Centre then there are more upmarket ones like The One. There is also Dragonmart for cheaper things - they sell everything you could possibly think of furniture/ bedding/ lights, curtains, clothes and lots more that you will never need in your life! There are some great delivery stores www.choithrams.com - not the cheapest but generally good quality and geant.com is a large supermarket store. www.qualityfood.ae are very good for fresh veg and meat. Most of the large supermarkets like Carrefour and Geant will supply the necessities of life. It really does depend where you live in Dubai as to what is available closest to you - but don't worry there is a reason Dubai is world renowned for its shopping! Another good online one is souk.com for electricals. I am sure there are more but can't think of anywhere else at the moment. Good luck with everything I'm sure more people can help with their favourite websites!

You can order online with John Lewis and House of Fraser in UK and they only charge £10.00 for shipping service - much cheaper than Shop & Ship. I generally receive goods within a week which I think is great.

Hi JVC is such a huge area it is difficult to answer. Basically if there is a large space in front of the apartment you are wanting to buy then expect construction to build more apartments in front. There are shops and cafes in JVC and more are going there as more construction is finalised. I like living there and find it a great base to get around Dubai, as long as you drive as public transport isn't great. Try asking to be added to the JVC residents facebook page as you can find out what people think about specific apartments.

Hi Dinkie Die, I think as you want to have the books copied, then they will need to be scanned and will probably ruin the original. Otherwise you may have to look overseas for book restoration, which is very expensive, but you will not be able to copy the book.

Yes you can get them wet and wear eye liner and eye shadow. Just make sure you do not use an oil based eye makeup remover or they won't last long. You will to go every couple of weeks to top them up so it can be quite expensive to keep them maintained.

No I have never heard of a viewing fee - they earn their money by the commission they receive which is generally 5% of the yearly rental. Sounds like a bit of a scam.

Congratulations Farah545 - looks like you have now got yourself a job. However I would say that you have way too many recommendations on here in one day. Maybe if you just did one every few weeks it would get the message across without being so obvious!

Hi Axelle The cost for whitening was ASED2000/- I think you can get this cheaper elsewhere though. They used Zoom whitening so I had 4 blasts of laser at 15 mins each at the dentist. Then I had a plastic mouth guard with gel I over the following week. Defo made a difference and lightened my teeth quite considerably. I couldn't wear red lipstick before the treatment as it made my teeth look yellow - now I won't wear it because it doesn't suit me!

An update on my veneers. I am very pleased with the work that I had at Mankhool. I think they are very natural looking and the gap between my teeth has gone completely. I did not want the very white bright false look as I don't personally like it so although my teeth are whiter they are not too white. Cost per veneer is AED1,500 which is a lot cheaper than I was quoted elsewhere.

Hi DutchieInDubai Just to let you know that I live in District 16 and where I live there is no construction work. Have lived there for over 2 years and really enjoy it. I think there are some people that have had problems with their houses but overall the one I am in has been fine. There is a Choitrams nearby which has recently opened which is great and there is a coffee shop although I haven't been but I do believe some people meet up there. There is an ENOC garage being built along Hessa St and plans for access in and out of JVC to Hessa St although I don't know when that will be done. Very rare that we have any traffic problems where I am, although believe there are a few racers around JVC - you can here dogs barking constantly as well when you sit outside so make sure you don't move next door to that. I really like living there - sometimes hear the odd party going on and the main annoying thing is that I haven't been invited! Hope that helps.

I should be able to answer you in two weeks time! There have been lots of recommendations for a Dr Christopher and Dr Madhu at Mankhool Dental Clinic on here and I have gone there to have my teeth whitened first (very pleased with this) and will be going back next week to have first appointment for veneers and the new ones will be fitted 5 days later. The price I am paying is around a third of the price that I was quoted by another recommended dentist. The place may not be quite as swanky as some other dentists in Dubai but I do feel that I trust him as a denist. So shall wait and see but so far I like the price!

Jumeirah Park is lovely don't worry about it not being gated as it is still a very safe place to live - probably safer than where you live in the UK!

The responses you have been given are correct - it will be difficult for you to get a 'fake' tenancy agreement from your bf if he is living in the same house as you will have to provide his details too. There are huge repercussions if you were to be found out and as FairyDust said you have a child involved so it would be hugely irresponsible to do anything illegal. Rather than think of it as just to solve the problem think of it as being a great new beginning as a family unit out here. Life for you all would be so much easier.

My husband has got a Dodge Durango and we both really like it. Its not too sluggish for a large car and there is lots of room in it. Not as fuel efficient as some others but a decent safe car.

I went to buy a birthday card for my husband recently to be told in Hallmark that they do not do 'husband' specific ones as there is no demand for them. There is another online personalised card shop - doodleclick.com which I have used. Quality was not brilliant but I do like to send cards with photos on of the recipient sometimes.

Hi Cheekylady, I changed my name last year and have almost got all my documents done. First thing I did was my passport as I needed that for some of the other id. The emirates card was very easy (cost 200 or 300AED) and my visa was due to be renewed so that was easy too. Most places I had to take my original wedding certificate in to do them. There are charges for each but not too expensive. There doesn't appear to be a time limit for doing it all but it can be hassle (worst was bank account as they kept asking for different id with name changes on). I haven't done my driving license yet but will do soon but I believe that only takes a short time. None of it was difficult but can be a little time consuming waiting around at different places - my wedding certificate hasn't been notarised but that didn't seem to matter with any of the authorities. Not sure if the above helps.

Just a huge thank you for the directions to Dr Madhu's clinic as I had to go there on Saturday. I think I would have struggled to find the place without the instructions below, but they were brilliant. Dr Madhu was busy so I saw Dr Christopher and thought he did a great job. Around a third of the price that I paid from a dentist in Jumeirah for the same treatment.

We had a gentleman come round called Kumar who fitted new canvas to our gazebo and we had cushions made up. It wasn't cheap but it was nearly two years now and still in great condition - previously our gazebo ripped after 6 months. Kumar's no is 055 202 0499. Alternativelyou could go to Dragonmart and try in the shops that sells gazebos - that is where we previously bought them from (but then they did only last 6 months).

We bought an intex pool in July and really like it as we don't have community pools near us. We bought it in Ace and they came and installed it. However we did buy some foam to put underneath it from Dragonmart as some of our friends recommended that. The foam flooring in Ace was really expensive. Now the weather is cooling down it is great to get into at any time - during the summer we could use it first thing in the morning but that was about it.

When looking at properties, I would recommend you find one that allows pets. If you are looking for an apartment, there are some places that do not allow pets but don't worry as there are lots of places and landlords that don't mind. It is just that if you find out later that they are not allowed it will cause a lot of trouble for you. Good luck with your move and I hope you enjoy your new life over here.

I find it cheaper to order food from Cook A Box as they provide three meals for the week - this way I don't go to the supermarket so often. Everytime I 'pop' into a supermarket for one or two items I end up spending at least 300 AED so now I try not to go in.

How cryptic - why would you drive around JVC at different times of the day to see what the traffic is like? Having lived there for 2 years I have not once had a traffic problem. Although there are some mad drivers that do speed around but they are everywhere in Dubai. Personally I think its great and according the fb page, now Spinneys has opened there, life is even better!

Hi although I don't live in Festival City myself, I do have some friends that live there and they love it. The mall there is lovely and its easy access to the airport and downtown Dubai. To be honest it is quite difficult to get proper opinions as so many people want different things - I love where I live but I know loads of people that hate it. Maybe write a list of things that are important to you to be near ie work, schools, shops, metro etc and then see if anywhere is a close fit. The main thing is to see where you and/or your husband are working and whether you will need schooling for children. It would be a complete pain to live there if you have to trek to the other side of Dubai each morning. Good luck with your move.

Hi just my two pennies worth but I found the Kindle Fire was difficult to see when reading out in the sun - the screens on the paperwhite doesn't glare back. I love books and took quite a while to agree to using a kindle - now I love it. My daughter, husband and I all share one account so we can all read the books which is great too. Sometimes Tesco in the UK have a special offer on the Kindles so worth checking there as well.

Just to let you know that I sent my passport off to the UK two weeks ago and received the new one back yesterday. I used DHL to send the documents out, cost 180 AED, they arrived at the passport office two days later. Just keep your login and reference number from when you register your passport online so that you can track your documents.

Hi, I am an 'older' lady, have mainly met friends through facebook sites which are set up in areas where I live and have lived. Also have invited neighbours round for a drink and have met some good friends through that (also some very weird people). Also met some people by just chatting to them in a bar or brunch. Also met some friends through DH's work and my work. Good luck with moving over here, there are some fabulous people around but you do have to make the effort to start talking which can be difficult for a lot of people. I would have really loved to join a group when I first visited as I felt very isolated for the first 6 months.

Hi Teamuk I lived in JVT for a couple of years and can say that it is a lovely community. There is a facebook page which you will need to request to join and there are a lot of comments on there which will help you. Be aware that there are more moans than nice things and I think that is because people tend to write about something bad more than they write about good things. So although there are problems in the area with traffic, certain areas don't have lights, some areas have bad sewage smell, some think too many dogs and cats around etc etc, I'm not convinced it is better elsewhere. The only reason that we moved away is because the house prices went up quite drastically. The best thing about the area in my opinion are the people - I have made many friends of all different nationalities and that has improved the quality of my life immensely.
