They have been putting a poem on facebook and twitter 'Twas the Night Before Flying' to familiarise the British of the laws and customs of the UAE. https://www.gov.uk/government/world-location-news/british-embassy-launches-its-version-of-twas-the-night-before-christmas Brilliant.

Hi Anna I can help you with shoes - must admit to owning a few pairs that I have never worn which you are welcome to have. I know how you feel as our shipping container with my clothes in took 4 months to arrive and I started hating the clothes that I was wearing around the house. Let me know how I can get in contact.

One place is Cyprus - possibly the easiest one to do and very close to here. Seychelles is another area which is easy to fly to and get married. I don't think that you can get married in Maldives, I believe they do blessings only. You can get married in Mauritius but trying to get the wedding certificate attested afterwards is quite difficult as there is no UAE Embassy in Mauritius.

I would say you could definitely cope with eyebrow tattoos if you can cope with a filling - I would never ever ever have a filling done again without the injection. You must have an extremely high pain threshold much better than mine. <em>edited by Cosmos Friend on 11/09/2014</em>

You can go to a Bobby Browns make up counter and they will teach you how to apply different types of make up - day time, smokey eyes etc. You will need to book an appointment with them though.

It was not agony as Michelle does put a cream on to numb the eyebrows - however it wasn't a pleasant experience. I did go back and have it done again so suppose it couldn't have been that bad. I had a tattoo done on my tummy and that was really painful.

Hi I have had my eyebrows tattooed with Michelle Soudi - http://eyebrowsdubai.com/hd-brows.html here in Dubai. They last about 18 months before needing to be done again - first time was perfect but the second time I went Michelle made them a bit thicker and I preferred the original shape to start with but 3 months later I now think they look pretty good.

Try contacting DKC (Dubai Kennels and Cattery) as they fly a lot of animals over to the UK they may know how to ship them.

I lived in JVT and now in JVC and to be honest I haven't really found much difference. We didn't want to move away from JVT originally but now we are there we like it. Personally, I find it much quieter in JVC - as we don't have dogs barking each night, noise from the nocturnal people in the parks, the smell of the sewerage and I am so pleased to be away from the flying bugs in JVT. It does look nicer in JVT when you are outside your house and there are more play areas if you have kids.

Hi xN Just to let you know that there are two facebook pages for JVC community so you will get some information from there. I live in a 2 bedroomed villa - build seems quite good (for Dubai) and so far we have not had any significant problems. It is supposedly more economic that the JVT 2 beds - no ghost air con, pump in garden rather than under ground, better quality pipes and hoses. JVC is still an ongoing site, and there are more parks due in the next year and a few group activities starting up ie mothers and baby group, running group. Traffic is pretty good and apparently they will be creating new accesses into JVC (according to the paper). As with all of Dubai - there can be crazy drivers around and if you join fb you will see some upturned cars and others stuck in the sand. Security cars travel around frequently and there is a telephone number to contact them in case of an emergency - although cannot comment about how good they are as haven't used them. Hope that helps.

I moved to JVC 4 months ago. Getting in and out has never been a big problem - amazingly it is quicker for me to get to work in the morning down Hessa Street than it used to take me from JVT so although it always looks at a standstill it isn't too bad. Getting back on the Al Khail can be very slow up Hessa Street so I don't go back that way. As katerpuss says below, they do have mini markets, beauty salons, restaurants etc but maybe not 5 star. (Although I haven't tried them all.) As long as its not a Thursday or Friday night, taxi's turn up pretty quickly - there are often a number waiting outside the Atlantis accommodation which is good, have had them arrive within 5 minutes if it is not a peak time. Otherwise Careem are brilliant. TBH don't notice it being any more sandy or dusty than when I lived at JVT, definitely less flying cockroaches but I do find it noisier with the traffic. There is a fb page for JVC, just ask the admin to add you, they are pretty good like that. Have to say we really didn't want to leave JVT, but we just couldn't afford to stay there. Now we are in JVC, we're are glad we have moved.

I recommend with Court5 that you stay at one of the Disney hotels if you are only there for a short time - another alternative is to try the Disney cruise which is for 3 nights I believe - I took my children on it years ago and they still talk about it.

I spoke to one maid recently to ask why a lot of maids do not discipline the children - her answer was that she never tells the children off in her care, if the children complain about her to their parents, she would lose her job.

Hi, I am living in one of the two bed villas (similar to JVT) and really like it in JVC. Only moved in a couple of months ago but find it relatively easy to get in and out of the area (my biggest concern). The villas are pretty well made and we have not had any major problems although air con stopped after a couple of weeks but Nakheel sorted it out within 48 hours. They seemed to have made the villas more environmentally friendly (no ghost aircon) and the pump room is above ground so people will not experience huge water leaks like they do in JVT. Nice neighbours and convenient shops nearby. Main disadvantage is that it is still a building site around there but then so was JVT when I first moved there, personally that doesn't bother me. Also there is traffic noise from Al Khail Rd and Hessa St but we don't notice it anymore. I would definitely recommend it.

My colleague just checked on paperwork he has and it does state two bedrooms are required to sponsor a wife - I am based in Tecom so whether that has anything to do with it I have no idea.

I went to a café in Mall of the Emirates called Toast - the bread wasn't even toasted on one side, just warm and soggy bread! The eggs were good though.

If you have a regular hairdresser then some don't charge at all for a trim (mine doesn't). Before that I went to a place in the Marina Mall and they charged 50 dhs.

I used 800 Tailor to make alterations to clothes but not sure if they actually make the dresses from scratch or just do alterations. They did a great job on my evening dresses.

I went to a fancy dress party as Roly Poly from 101 Dalmations - painted a paper overall with spots on and used a key fob for the name tag.

Umm Suqueim is much quicker now that you don't have to stop at all the traffic lights so this may be the best to go.

When I went to see Rhianna I bought the VIP tickets - unfortunately we couldn't see the stage or the screens and there were no free drinks! Complete waste of money.

CenterParcs is great fun for all of the family and there will be loads of things for your kids to do but it is not cheap. A new craze apparently is 'Glamping' and sites are in the UK and Europe, this is more a back to nature holiday but with comfort.

I actually purchased bus tickets to the concert from Dubai when I bought my tickets - the only name on the ticket says Flash - bus ticket if that helps. Tickets were purchased through ticketmaster. <em>edited by Cosmos Friend on 13/10/2013</em>

I understand how you are feeling - had the same problem a number of years ago and in the end, after months of a lot of pain and problems I had to see a specialist. His advice was for me to take fybogel - which is the same as ispaghol to get rid of the constipation which then stopped the haemorrhoids. The specialist told me to stop using any sort of cream and never to use soap as this will only make things worse but to just use cotton wool and plain water - and then pat dry with cotton wool. I didn't really believe this would work and felt upset at the time of waiting all those months for a specialist to say that to me! I can honestly say that it took a few weeks (and a few tears) but did get better completely. Very occasionally I do get the itching back, I go back to using cotton wood and water instead of toilet paper and it heals up quickly.

I keep getting them as well but mine are around once a week and generally at 2am. Very annoying but have no idea how to stop them as they are from different numbers.
