As much as I agree with you ladies most of the time :) , this is not right. If you are hired for a particular job, i.e. washing up, ironing whatever then it's your responsibility to tell your employer at the start that you have to do things in a certain order otherwise you have a hand shaking problem. If you have not notified your employer about this you cannot then expect later down the line to be allowed a half hour break in between each task to avoid said hand shaking problem. This person has been employed to perform these tasks. If the employer is fine with things being done in a different order to accommodate the problem then that's fine. If not, then the employee has to just get on with it or find a new Madam.

Epidural failure is quite common. http://bja.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2012/06/26/bja.aes214.full Epidurals can also slow down the process and make childbirth more difficult, depending on your opinion on this subject.

I think you need to take DH's phone and read all the messages where he has been LOOLing with his DSis just to check if it's about you or not. Then report back here with details.

The last time round was more of an overnight type of thing, whereas this time it's not just us, it's slower, it's gradual, everyone is <hopefully> a little more prepared in terms of savings/plans, but the difference is I think that there is no end in sight to this oil problem. So what will be next for the world in the era of low oil prices? Will we all just have less money/employment/will life be slower always? How will things like schools fill up and will rates for schooling eventually have to decrease? will life become cheaper in a few years? who knows?

DEWA will have to be in the name of whoever is on the TC/Ejari. If you are not listed both of you on the TC then it will be in DH"s only. Are you asking this or are you asking if you can just go to DEWA on his behalf then that will be fine.

I'm in the Yes camp, I used to do this (who knew it was an EW faux pas :P ) like wearing a striped top & jeans the same as a baby outfit. I think it's cute. However it probably only works on younger children/babies and not so much past 2 years or so. Hope that helps OP! ETA: When I was a baby there were no shops where we lived selling Western clothes so my mum used to stitch me and her matching dresses and then make a matching one for my dolly.

well, at least you brought all the old-timers out of the woodwork !! Well done GB, and CP is happy now EW is back... lol Clearly some people here aren't familiar with GB's style but her heart's in the right place and I second the posters who said we should be more supportive.. As an aside, this doesn't apply here as she said it's her first time but parents picking kids up late is really annoying for teachers - I was in school the other day 40 minutes after the end of the day and there were still 2 kids waiting while the receptionist was ringing the parents..one of the fathers had said he'd be 10 minutes over half an hour ago and meanwhile the staff were wanting to get on but had to sit in the reception essentially playing babysitter...we all have one-offs with the car breaking down or whatever but these two were habitual...it's like the parents just expect it to be ok...and before anyone jumps in with the white privilege excuse, neither of these two children were.. [b'>well, at least you brought all the old-timers out of the woodwork !! Well done GB, and CP is happy now EW is back... lol[/b'> ? Am I? ?

Gorobattie, you are a long time EW'er so you know that here we don't always get the responses we'd like, that's the beauty of an open forum, replies from all angles. But I think you do take a lot of things to heart including probably a lot of the responses you have received. Just try to take things with a pinch of salt. People say things without thinking some times. I am sure half us have been called fat or been told they haveput on weight since they arrived in the UAE. How have things been with Ms MiddleAge since your OP?

Well done for complaining. It's sad when people speak in a different manner when they think they are talking to "the help". I agree with you Slivstet. But also wonder why the OP mentioned that the teacher is middle aged?! Is that also assessing someone based on appearance? :P

The "money for Petrol to get back to Oman/KSA" is a usual one, as is the "horrible wound on arm" one and the "urine bag" one. However, I'd still probably give 10/20 AED.

As my post did not contravene any EW rules, I shall repost the gist of it. Of course there are different cultural behaviours here, as almost every person you meet is from a different country or culture. Part of being an expat is embracing and finding out about those differences and why people do the things they do. People that are not able to do that and constantly compare things to their home country are not cut out for expat life.

Why do so many people on this forum compare things here to "the UK". We are not in the UK. Most of the people who make up the 300 nationalities in the UAE are not from the UK. Surely part of the experience of living abroad is to accept other people's cultural differences, whatever they may be. Having the ability to accept and appreciate other ways of life is the most important part of becoming an expat.

After maybe 11 years of EW what has tipped me over the edge is the number of fake threads and posts. I can't bear to see any more 'new users' with fake questions that get one or two answers and suddenly there are pages and pages of the same thing. No more fun, no banter, no arguments, no discussion. EW has become that nightclub on the wrong end of town that plays bad music. It all went wrong when Spongemonkey got banned!

No guitar (I don't think) but this chap is highly recommended, he is amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD2oKKyIfEg He is also Emirati :) He sings a huge range and would fit with the genre you are looking for. He is brilliant.

Hi Daffers, not sure but if you can't get them they usually show up on youtube a few days later. Also, if you are interested, you can find every single old episode. I started watching the old episodes again recently - started at 1978 and am now at 1991 - I had NO IDEA Ken and Alma had had a thing!!!

From an agency the maids can work wherever they are sent, however sharing a maid between a Madam (when under that family's sponsorship) and her friends/neighbours is not allowed.

It's illegal to share maids and you have no recourse with the Police when they steal something so that is not a good idea.

Different countries also use different height/weight charts. For example a US chart would look hugely different to an Asian chart. Anyway - OP, Infinity Health Clinic have excellent paediatricians, Dr Loubser is an allergy specialist who would be your best bet if you suspected coeliac and wanted to test for that but if you can't get with him the other paediatricians are also very good. (Coeliac can cause lack of growth due to the hairs in the digestive track going the wrong way so all the nutrients etc pass through the body.) Good luck.

Hi Cleo, don't worry, it's normal in Dubai to have lots of tests and scans but in other countries most people don't have things done until 12 weeks. I'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon to give proper advice!. Just wanted to sympathise with you about your all day sickness - been there and got the tshirt on that, have you tried ice lollies? Fresh ginger. The wrist band things from the pharmacy. Salty crisps. Carrying half a lemon around with you and smelling it. Fizzy drinks. Hope you feel better soon x

Oops, thought you were through the back with your mulled grape. :P Tessa, will you be renting out your beach side house to holidaymakers, when you are in Dubai? Where is your potential house? The temperature of the sea must be about 15 degrees at the moment. You must be brave swimming there!
