hahahaha!!! Anyway, I think it's easy for us all to get fed up when the heat starts, the traffic is bad, people are grumpy, kids are tired at the end of term etc. It's actually a good time to start writing your lists for the Summer. Doing all those things you never have time to do during the Winter months in UAE as you are never home as there is so much on every weekend. Start filling in your children's scrapbooks, tidying up your cupboards, filling up your Ramadan bags to give away, sorting out toys and puzzles, getting school uniforms labelled and ready for next year - it doesn't sound exciting but it is nice to just take that rest and down-time. Before you know it, it will be September and we'll be back to rushing around, getting Halloween outfits organised etc. Make the most of your peace and quiet when school finishes. :)

GE you will see them from Falcon City too but if you could be bothered driving for 5 minutes at that time you'd get a better view from all the roads near Skycourts.

I would find an apartment where you are not writing a cheque to an agency, and your LL is not in the country. Did you find a nice apartment near your daughter's school?

Deira and Oud Metha are both good locations with great schools and amenities very close by. There are some lovely apartments in both areas and you are close to parks, malls, the beach, as well as a lot more of the cultural side of Dubai. Please don't fall into the trap of thinking that everything must be on the "New Dubai" side to be in the acceptable bracket. :)

There are extensive lists of names of travelling families on the net, for example http://website.lineone.net/~rtfhs/journal4.html Some of the families named there are very well known in parts of the UK and run very, very successful business now in the leisure/entertainment industry. Many of the fairgrounds, amusement arcades, bars and restaurants on coastal towns are run by the same families. Very very shrewd and successful businessmen to work with.

Wind, what are your reasons for wanting to be in Oceana specifically? There are so many lovely areas very close to Academic City. For your budget you can look at Falcon City, The Villa, Silicon Oasis, Al Warqah, etc. You'd get a lovely villa and be in a nice community and your daughter would be 5-10 minutes from school. The beach, malls would only be 20 minutes away.

Get a pool shade/cover made and fitted - you won't believe the difference. Without direct sunlight shining on it, it will definitely be cooler. You can also get one of these fountain things very cheaply which runs on the power from your pool pump, it takes water in and sprays it back out again keeping the temperature down.

For those ladies who might be interested, I went down to the Immigration Dept this am and spoke with two different people. Each told me the same thing. (thankfully). Both said it was best to cancel before he leaves. However, if his visa expires while he is out, he will be able to come in through his passport on a visit visa. Son is so relieved and looking forward to joining his school friends for a tour around Europe no matter what happens. . Norak I think in your case this is because he will be entering within a very short period of the expiry, and you would not have received the same answer if it had expired 4 months ago or 6 months ago, please confirm

Hi Caroline It's very possible but the following will help 1. Companies that want this sort of employee often want them all year round and not just when schools are on (unless it is in a school/uni etc) - so think about that and see if it will suit you to work all year round taking the same hols as your DH 2. Jobs like this are often also not advertised but are found by word of mouth - so make sure and tell as many people as possible what you are looking for, especially people that run small businesses themselves or have employees leave for the summer etc. 3. Sometimes a company may not know they want to employ you on a 3 day a week basis until you suggest it to them ;) i.e. if you hear about a great job that would suit you and know that you could do the job by doing it 3 days a week in the office and maybe a day or two at home - suggest it. Sell the benefits of it to the company and you may be surprised at the outcome. Offer to work a reduced salary for the benefit of part time work. Good luck!

I'd phone Immigration on that one Norak. If it's within the 30 days of expiring he might be ok. Though exiting and expiring and entering within that 30 days, or just after the 30 days, complicates it. Please let us know!

From Al Quoz Pond Park: On your right/near the Mosque would be the start of Al Quoz housing (there are some new houses on the right there, predominantly Local areas) Opposite this are the start of the HH MBR City estates Drive straight and right at the next roundabout and take the right and you'll pass Millennium Estates on your left. At the crossroads take a left and drive straight for about 5km and you'll come to Meydan Heights on your left (Emirates).

It depends how far out you can go easily, but that area is well placed for either cultural things to do in Sharjah or Dubai at the Shindaga side. It's a lovely area. are you talking in terms of holiday/tourist tings, or to live?

Oh that feeling, the one of dread logging in while feeling round your head and as you gasp with delight to find it's still on your neck Now no longer you must pace, wring your hands and frett Captain, I wonder who you were before in that time of yuletide, those days of yore perhaps you could share a clue of your name while we think back and ponder the same (I feel my prose is not in the same class when i haven't got Gordons in my glass)

the UAE has a lot more to offer than malls, brunches etc. Get out and do some exploring - there's always so much to do and see that doesn't cost money. Some of the best times we've had involve a shwarma on the beach, a samosa by the creek or an omlette paratha on a highway in the back of beyond - all under 5 AED!

i don't think it's a reprieve, I think the Mods are at Brunch they like their Friday tipple (that's just my hunch) Once back, they'll be merry - so maybe tomorrow? is when we'll look back on this day with sorrow the day we threw caution to the wind I suppose and wrote each line with well thought out prose do they not know the time taken to think up each line? how hard it is for us to write normal posts in rhyme? can't they consider how it makes our brains sore before they chop and change threads galore that dreaded screen "posting is only for authenticated users" really makes us feel like losers must get on now with some Friday chores if it's my last post, dear EW, signing off, truly yours xx

Dear OP, you are correct in your thought that to write in rhyme you really must not the reasons why are very unclear though it began one night when christmas was near it was 2009, when on the Eve of Yuletide on EW there was merriness, mulled wine on the side when suddenly with no warning (well only a few) the dreaded axe fell and slayed EW with posters disappearing like thieves in the night Before Santa had even seen the tree lights Many, many lost their heads about 20 of them, no more alive, but dead! Locked out of EW on Christmas Morn it was a travesty of legend, this EW thorn We know not why the Mods hate threads in rhyme but this thing has been going on a long time As soon as a thread has two words that match the poster gets chopped, and that is that Then a new name must be conjoured up from high and the EWer slinks back in on the sly it's an EW legend, this tale of yore but lose your head, yes, you will, I implore you to remember this rule, so odd NEVER, EVER, ODE TO A MOD!
