Home early and battening down hatches. Today was utter mayhem. Mission Impossible describes it perfectly - totally eerie and deserted everywhere. It felt like the end of the world! <dramatic>

Budda, after 6 months you are classed as having absconded, which then means problems on your next entry to UAE, whether or not you mean to land here. Puddle, the procedure is that DH has to cancel your visa first. Very easy and just means a trip to Immigration with you (and any DCs) passports and ID cards, and also his. Then, he needs to cancel his. Procedure will have different timescales depending on where his employer is (freezone/etc). At the time of cancelling he will sign to say he has received his EOS benefit, and his employer will also have to sign/stamp this. Once submitted this can take anything from 5 minutes to 10 days depending on freezone/not. HTH?

Her: Yes maam Me: So, I think that means she is probably not able to do a foot massage just now then? Her: Yes maam.

- outdoors for around 50 people - a live band - willing to have outside food options for example a shwarma stand. My mind is blank, any ideas on venues that won't be too expensive? Even a beach venue would be great for this. Thanks! (I realise that this is a question for HM... :) )

Has anyone else noticed the particularly sporadic supply of vegetarian products recently? Haven't been able to get decent tofu for months. Yes, I have Daza. Choitrams on Al Wasl Rd used to have a freezer full of Linda M things & all the Quorn products & other brands, and last week there was absolutely nothing except things like cheese samosas! Very bizarre.

Sheila have you been here for a holiday before moving? Dubai is a wonderful place, only the other day while walking through the mall a friend commented on how every single person you walk past is speaking a different language. You'll be thrown in to such a vast pot of nationalities, cultures, food, a totally different way of living. Yet, it is not for everyone. If you like where you are now and are moving by yourself and have trouble adjusting to change, it will take you time to settle and you will feel out of place for a few months. There are lots of groups set up to help people settle in, coffee mornings etc. It is an easy place to make friends and everybody has been new once so knows what you will be going through. Ask questions ahead of your move and if possible, have a visit. Take care!

A few things are puzzling me a) How do you know the lady is a maid from her wanting to join a group - could she be a friend of the family or a colleague of the children's parents? b) If she is a maid, how would you ever know who her employer is to contact her?

I would rather be stapled than have your bags taken off you. i think it is Lulu that takes your bags off you and keeps them in a cubby. Then you get home and find the tag in your bag to remind you to pick your bags up. So you need to go all the way back again. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

I think a lot of shoplifting would go on at C4. It's just so busy. I had my wallet stolen out of my bag [i'>right under my eyes[/i'> less than a metre away from me.

Oh dear Preeti it sounds like you need a nice lazy weekend. I think women generally are used to multi tasking more and it is irritating when the men around us can't cope with the same amount of tasks in a limited time. Then again, we are our own worst enemies for doing the tasks ourselves and not outsourcing them. ;) If DH can't help with some of the morning tasks (!) would it be worth outsourcing some to someone else. How about getting a dog walker?

Hi FG, it's probably a bit early to be asking. If it's for Spring Camp, a few are being advertised now. For Summer Camps, a few weeks before Summer there'll be loads of listings including on here. Time Out usually do a good review of all of the Camps. There are so many on offer here, from Drama to Sports to Art/Craft etc. You'd be better asking at the start of June. :)

Great ideas and thanks for the Tarteliere website they look yum! Apricot, did you try the Pizza one at PieFace? They don't taste like pizza at all, but almost like a mild curry one with aubergines, they are delish!

Not sure Maid is a more respectful term really! In the old days they'd be called a "Mother's Help". I guess it depends if they live with you or not, I just have a 'cleaner' a few times a week. :P Wonder if anyone has ever asked their maid what they like to be called?!

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. :)

Thinking of Andorra at the moment - a very healthy place they say! Lots of ski-ing - 200km from Barcelona and south of France. Low tax (the whole rest of Europe will be taxing bicycles etc. very soon!), very safe and some nice looking properties too. Also there is Air Andorra - trying to get off the ground but not quite managed it yet! It may be boring though. ohhhh I love Andorra. That would be amazing!! One of those places which would be nice in summer or winter.

Frazzled if you go to Al Hubaiba (Plant Street) in Satwa, there's a little hole in the wall near the hardware shops. So on your right hand side as you face down towards Al Wasl Rd and quite near the top of the road. You'll probably see people standing outside it, it's basically a couple of people sitting behind a desk fixing electrical items, v cheap too. Good luck!

Mona, you can get a government health card from your local clinic. They will ask to see your TC and your visa though, which you may not have still? Then, you can use government clinics to see GPs or specialists. A GP appointment used to be AED 150, it may have increased since then. For emergencies, if you have a health card, it may be free. I think it depends on what it is. I had to use the ER of Latifa Hospital recently with a health card and it was completely free. :) (ETA for a child case not adult) <em>edited by CouchPotato on 16/03/2015</em>

I agree with Slivstet and certainly wouldn't be trekking all over time trying to buy an outfit you'll never wear again. Paper plate, designed like a lion's face with some lion's ears and some sort of tail and a yellow outfit.

So funny, I happened to watch B&B on Friday for the first time in about 20 years and was rolling around laughing. I can't believe Brooke is still in it??! And it's so dramatic, it took a whole episode for one thing to happen and lots of people staring vacantly into the distance. Hilarious!
