Never worn jeans to a brunch, probably because I go out so rarely I enjoy getting dressed up! I have seen all sorts of attire at brunches though and a dress with flat shoes is definitely ok
Thank you for your reply. Same here.....been here over 5 years and I can still count on one hand the number of brunches I’ve been to. I love getting dressed up which is why I’m always in dress and heels! Think I’ll stick to my usual

Yes when our landlord sold our villla we were inundated with phone calls from different agents, all wanting to come at different times if the day and night! So frustrating and I felt like Cinderella trying to keep the place clean all the time! You can choose times and days that suit you but they will still be insistent! Good luck...I know how distressing it can be!

Hi ladies, We are looking to move somewhere close to the old airport. I've been online and have no idea where to look? Any websites better than others? Can anyone advise on what compounds are close by with nice new villas, ideally with private pool?

Hi friends, I'm really in a dilemma n need advice. My 14 year old son has developed social anxiety (he's getting therapy),n so someone suggested to go for home schooling n with that he can pursue training in his favorite sport ; golf. What do u think, is this the right way to go ?......,,some suggested to relocate to home country(I've posted a thread previously abt this)as he vil hv more social interaction through extended family n old neighbors n tht vil help him ...really don't know what to do....help.... Hi, sorry to hear your son is going through this. I think helping him to pursue an interest is a good way to help. Being able to participate in this will increase his confidence in his abilities and in himself and this will have a positive impact across all other areas of his life. I don't think home schooling is the best idea. This is just removing him from the situation rather than helping him to deal with and overcome his anxieties. Speak to his teacher, explain the situation and they will be able to help him in school. Maybe he just needs small group activities rather than whole class groups for a while. His therapy will also give him strategies for dealing with school life so keeping him in school will only help him to overcome his anxieties as he implements new strategies learned. Asking him to chose a few friends to do things with at weekends is a good way to make him feel comfortable socialising too. Focus on just one or two others to start and then as a small group of friends, they can try socialising with others. Being part of a close knit group of friends might help him too. I hope some of this helps..

I had an amazing girl who used to do my blonde highlights. Sadly she returned to the U.K. So I went to a hairdresser on the Beach Road. Worst mistake of my entire life. I just wanted a few blonde highlights. Rather than going into the full tragic story my hair is ruined and I mean ruined. It's snapped so much and is frizzy on top. I did have a lovely bob. I'm treating it myself everyday now. They gave me a treatment after me having to pay 50 dhs each way again by taxi. They offered me a Brazilian blowout which would have damaged my hair more. Offered me nail treatments which I declined as that wouldn't help my hair. They had no idea how to colour my hair and I have been so upset I was even in tears in the salon as they even turned my hair grey and I mean grey. I don't want to go back but I really need help. I'm so sick of people ruining my hair here and paying for the privilege. Please can someone recommend an amazing hair dresser that knows her stuff that may be able to rescue what I have left. I feel like I have been left with a full block colour of white and yellow and now my roots are coming through and I'm at a loss as to what to do. I thought I had learnt my lesson years ago but now I'm back to square one. I don't care the cost now just need serious help. Any great advice would be really appreciated. TIA. Oh no, I feel your pain! I too have blonde hair and find it so hard to get it right. I have been going to Ted Morgan in Jumeirah. They are very good with blonde hair. The girls I have seen working there are from UK and really know what they are doing. Also, they do a treatment called olaplex. It is a strengthener for blonde hair and it is brilliant. I think it's around 200AED but I have noticed a big difference in my hair since I started getting it. Good luck

Really up to your preference of wear. Any kind of shorts and t-shirt. If you are uncomfortable with shorts, normal jeans or sweat pants. Also, a cut sleeve t-shirt might be an option honestly as some people tend to sweat more and prefer that as an option. Shoes do not matter so much because you will be tempted to take them off later and walk barefoot on the sand which is normal. Get a cap or hat, as the sun is not friendly. At night it gets chilly so a light jacket is good to have. No heels No dresses as with the wind they would fly and if you are looking to ride a camel or those four wheel motorcycles (not sure what they are called) it will be highly uncomfortable Do not wear shirts as you would feel you are over dressed for the occasion Try also to get a small bag so that you can hang it over your shoulder at all times without worry of leaving it behind to do any activities Personally I would also suggest to get tissues, wet wipes/ sanitizer with you as you might find the bathrooms lack them or run out quickly and there is usually no back up. Also, just for quick refreshment or cleaning off sand (basically so you dont run to the bathroom all the time to wash your hands or face) Hope this helps. Wow, thats great. Thank you so much for all of that! Would flip flops be ok for footwear or is a closed shoe better??

Need to find a new place to shop, as Waitrose and Spinneys are breaking the bank. Where do you shop for prawns and fish? Carrefour have a large selection of fish and shellfish. Anything I have tried from there has been good.

That's good to know, Ill defo check Ikea out. I was reading somewhere about postage and not getting it delivered to your door as you need to go to some central location to collect everything, is this true? Would that be the same for Ikea, im sure they would come to your villa? Maybe I need to stop reading some stuff online ha. Hopefully we will make the move in Jan, we have literally just started to talk about it, my husband is an Engineer so im hoping he will find something so we can start the process. If I could I Would go tomorrow, im stuck in my hectic 9-5 office job and cant wait to feel the sun on my face and take some time out :) We don't even know how to apply for jobs, tats another post I should probably stick up.:) If you want your post delivered here, you need to set up a post box with the post office. Even then it's debatable if you will receive it. It's not like the good old Irish postman!! Ha!! We haven't bothered, just get stuff couriered within Dubai and get our international post when we get home. Everything else can be delivered here...from your big furniture and electrical items down to laundry, milk and McDonald's!!! Any time of day or night!!! So yes, ikea no problem. The shopping festival is usually in February so you will get some really good deals then!!! As for applying for jobs, sorry can't help you there!!! I'm not working here and we were transferred here with hubbys job but you will definitely get answers if you post it on a separate thread. I'm guessing you would apply directly to companies or some might have recruitment fairs! Good luck!! So your telling me ill never receive a birthday card from home with my few euros in it? Now that's a bummer, I may give my Iban to everyone before I leave ha. I'm getting so excited about the move now, just hoping all works out and goes to plan x Ha ha, good idea! Or just get them to pay up now in advance!! ? It is an exciting time. Enjoy it and try not to get too stressed with it all!!

Great thanks. Another question for you. What do most people do when they first get over? Do stay in short term accommodation while in search for the permanent one? I just ask because they are all unfurnished so I would need time to furnish it? Is there good furniture shops or do people tend to buy 2nd hand? Yep most people would stay in serviced/ hotel apartments. That way you can cook yourself and have some living space. We stayed in a hotel and I was going crazy just in the one room all the time with just a kettle!! There are lots of serviced/hotel apartments and really reasonably priced. Yes, almost all villas are unfurnished. You will probably need to buy everything including washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker, fridge etc. Depending on what month you arrive, a lot of the stores do sales for snapping up electrical. As for furniture shops, depends what you are after and how much you want to pay. Marina, The One have lovely stuff but is expensive. There is Home Centre as well and that's more reasonable. IKEA will probably be your best friend when it comes to furnishing your villa without breaking the bank. And for 200AED they will assemble everything too!! If you want to buy second hand, there are Facebook pages for buying and selling. The seller must collect which puts some people off. Once you get here and get your villa, you will have a better idea of what/how much you will need!

That's brilliant, I really appreciate your help. I did come across The Springs and I really liked it so its good to know there will be people like me living there, its a relief. Its such a daunting experience but I know it will be for the best once we get settled x Yes it is daunting, I agree. But once you get here and see how lovely it is and how friendly everyone is, you will be a lot more at ease. It will be pretty hectic for first month or so finding your feet and a house/furniture/school etc but once that's all done you will be able to enjoy it. We really love it here. Here is a link to houses in springs on property finder today. Hope it works! This should give you an idea of what you can get within your budget. Ok, it didn't work. But if you go to property finder or dubizzle they will give you an idea of what's available!

Hi guys, Myself and my husband and our 2 young boys are relocating to Dubai hopefully in 6 months. We don't know much about the ,moving process so I am trying to read as many threads as I can to find all the info I need. Basically we are trying to find out about living locations, what areas are the best for ex-pats. I would love to live somewhere were the community really get together and know one another as I have the fear of been isolated once my husband goes to work and the boys go to school because I plan to take 12 months off once I get to Dubai. The are would ideally be close to a good school too. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I know it would depend on budget but maybe use 150k per year as a guideline. 2 or 3 bed villa type, greenery etc, I don't want to be in an apartment. Thanks. Orla x Hi Orla, I think you and your family will love Dubai. There are a lot of Irish here! Accommodation wise you would get a two bedroom villa in Springs for your budget, maybe a 3 bed for a bit more. Springs is very green and lots of families live there. All the different springs compounds (I think there are 15) are built around lakes with lovely walks and most have a shared pool with lifeguard and playground for kids. There are two small malls nearby, the town centre being the biggest of the two and another one under construction at the moment. There are many schools nearby too, Dubai British school in springs, jumeirah park British school and an international school to name a few. I think the two British schools get good reviews but you can see the school inspection reports online. If there is anything else, just ask! bye:

Hi All, I'm new to this group and hope to see wonderful people here. Working as an accountant in DAFZA. My concern is we have been trying to conceive for 4 years and last year I met Doctor Elizabeth in Medeor Hospital. My periods were irregular but for the past 3 months I have been getting my periods regularly which is a positive sign. Twice I have been given femara and once tried ovidrel injection as advised by our doctor. But all these were unsuccessful, the doctor has asked my husband to take a semen analysis and she said accordingly we will need to consult an IVF specialist. I wanted your suggestions on if I should go for a second opinion or should I directly meet an IVF specialist. I'm really upset on this, i'm loosing hopes and desperately need a child in our life. If I should meet an IVF specialist whom should I go to? I stay in Sharjah, i'm also over weight because of PCODs and reduced upto 8 kgs but looks like my weight is stuck now and doesn't go down anymore. But I havent gained weight after the 8kg reduction as well. Feeling really hopeless and upset. Please help me dears. Thanks & Regards Disya Hi Disya, I am sorry to read of the situation you find yourself in. My husband and I also had trouble conceiving naturally so we went straight to an ivf specialist. They will do all the necessary tests at your first meeting to determine if you need iui/ivf or not. They will do the semen analysis on your husband, an ultrasound for you and blood tests for you both. Once they have done these they will know how to proceed. I know how confused/upset/scared you must be feeling as I too felt that way. My advise is to go see a specialist and once you do, you will feel a lot better. You will have results/answers to consider and then can decide what is best for you and your husband. Good luck.

Yes, your 5 year old daughter can wear shorts and vest tops, no problem. Like the other poster said, the malls etc can be a little chilly with ac so take light cardigans too and maybe some leggings. But certainly no problem with shorts and tshirts!

I am so sorry to read of your situation. I was in a similar situation two years when my husbands dad passed away. He had been ill but not for very long, 3 months from diagnosis to the end which was quite sudden/unexpected for it to come so soon. I really feel for you, it is so so hard watching someone you love so much suffering and losing someone they love so much. From experience, I don't think there is anything much you can do to make this any easier, it will be very hard. But for him, knowing you are there to listen, support, help out in any way needed will be a great help and peace of mind. For me, it was making sure his mum was never on her own, phonecalls, text messages, cups of tea although I appreciate you are not there. Also understanding that he might not want to talk about what is going on, doesn't mean he doesn't want to talk to you, just not about what is going on. So have conversations about other things going on, talk about your work, the news, anything to take his mind off what is going on if even for a couple of minutes. For now, when you are apart, I think just to reassure him you are there for him and thinking of him. When the time comes, there will be lots of practical things you can do to help, phoning family members/friends, ordering flowers, making more cups of tea! For my husband, he just wanted to know I was there for him, not expecting anything just to be there, to listen and advise and to know he is not on his own! Take care at this difficult time!

If the 150 is a monthly offer then you can't use the entertainer for that, I go to various saloons & use the entertainer , you get the buy one get one free on the listed prices only , it is the same with buffets & hotel rooms if it's on offer you can't use 2 offers at the same time Yes I understand you can't use vouchers with monthly and special offers. This wasn't either, the 150 is in their normal prices menu. It wasn't a special of any kind which is why it is so frustrating!

Yesterday I went for a manicure and pedicure. The salon price list said 150AED. When I went to pay she charged me 250AED. I questioned this and pointed out the price on the price list. Her response was, Mam treatments are more expensive when you use an entertainer voucher but next one will be free!! I questioned this again but was told that was the price for the treatment I'd had!!!! I've been using the entertainer for over 3 years now and I've never heard of this before!!! The idea is buy one get one free, but this is just 50AED off!!!! Anyone else? Are they having me on?? I feel I need to contact the management to complain??

Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good place to buy organic, preferably grass fed, meat and bones? I'm starting the AIP protocol (Autoimmune Paleo) next week and need to have a good supply of meat and bones for broth. Also, if anyone has tried AIP and has any tips or success stories I'd love to hear them! Thanks in advance! Spinneys do some organic meats. I'm not sure about bones.

Hey ladies, Would you be able to advise where I can buy/order young girls prom dresses from. My daughter is11 but very small and petite and this is her last year in Primary school. She needs a dress that is more teenager type, but for a small/skinny body - not sure if I am being able to describe this appropriately. I had ordered an XXS size for my older from ASOS, but she was taller. She wants it to be lacey and fancy, but not kiddish like in Monsoon. Any advice/ recommended websites to refer to appreciated, thanks You could try somewhere like river island, miss selfridge and topshop, they sell a lot of 'on trend' dresses in smaller sizes and not at break the bank prices.

Will you be continuing to rent the property under the new owner or are you leaving when your contract finishes? I've been in the former situation, and also had agents being completely disrespectful of my time. So I made it clear that viewings could only take place 6-8pm on Tuesdays and 4-6pm on Saturdays. If you're in the latter situation, I really don't see why it should be your problem and I probably wouldn't cooperate in those circumstances. You're certainly not legally obliged to. There is still 8 months left on our contract so We hope to stay once the property is sold but depends whether it is another landlord that buys it or someone wanting to live there. I will work out some time slots for the agents!!! Thank you for your response.

Legally you do not have to let anyone in. However when my ex LL was selling I set aside designated times and if they were late ( they usually were) then they didn't come in. My LL took the Mickey and I had real estate agents calling me at all hours however I put a stop to that. I used to allow a few hours at the weekend and that was it as she expected me to let people look around after 9pm during the week and all day on a Saturday. For some odd reason no one ever wanted to view on a Friday That sounds like exactly what is happening to us! Endless agents calling to arrange viewings, all saying they have exclusive rights to sell the house. Some phone and just want to call there and then, others want to come everyday!!! Aaaaaargh!!!!! I feel like I need to live in a show house and am spending all my time cleaning and tidying!!!! Thank you so much for your response, I will work out a time that works for me every week and if they can come then, great! If not, tough! :-)

Hi ladies, Our landlord is selling the villa we are renting. Does anyone know what the correct procedure is for this as in how many different agents / companies can market it and how many hours we need to allow for viewings etc. We are living in the property so it is all a bit frustrating having people traipsing through the house and looking in our cupboards all the time but also don't want to kick up a fuss if it's all above board! Hi, I too was in a similar position a couple of years ago and it can be very hard to know which decision is best. I don't know anything about conceive in JLT, we used a clinic in healthcare city. The procedure itself is relatively straightforward. This is what I went through... After meeting with the doctor and establishing dates, you will start on your hormone injections. After a few days of injections your will go for ultrasound every other day. Then after about two weeks of injections, they will do an egg collection. For this, they will take you to theatre and extract the eggs when you are asleep. On the same day, your husband will be asked to provide a sample. They may do this surgically depending on his count. They will let you know how many eggs before you leave. Then after about 3-5 days you return for the embryo transfer which is very very straightforward, no pain, nothing. In 14 days, you return for a blood test to see if you are pregnant. I think the cost for us from start to finish was AED35,000. This will vary for everyone because you pay for the drugs and the procedures as and when you need them. Some will need more or less than others! I wish you all the best. If I can help you with anymore information, please let me know. Hallo cruiseaddict Thank you so much for your reply. Which doctor did you use at healthcare city? And how many cycles did it take for you? Were you successful? I used Dr Wael and thought he was lovely. Dr Mohammad also comes highly recommended. We did two cycles - one unsuccessful, the other we lost at 8 weeks. this was heartbreaking, getting so far, but still not far enough! There are lots of success stories though so think positive in your approach! When are you thinking of starting treatment?

Hi, I too was in a similar position a couple of years ago and it can be very hard to know which decision is best. I don't know anything about conceive in JLT, we used a clinic in healthcare city. Toro Toro in the Grosvenor House is excellent and all served at the table, Im not really a bruncher, as I'm not really a fan of buffets and think they often just serve the cheapest wines etc, but I was well impressed with this one and it's not one where you feel awkward just being the two of you. 500 dhs with alcohol including a quite nice sparkling wine/ red and white and beer and they made cocktails fresh at a drink trolley at you table (no champagne package though, which I'm not really fussed about anyway). Aw sounds lovely! Is this a churrascaria style brunch?

McGettigans in JLT have live music at weekends. Their food is very good too. Have a look on their website for more info and menus. Thanks, funny that I never thought about McGettigans, and the food is nicer there as well. Hope you have a good night! :)
