McGettigans in JLT have live music at weekends. Their food is very good too. Have a look on their website for more info and menus.

Hi ladies, Has anyone used and could recommend a catering company that would fully cater a BBQ for about 10-12 people? Fully cater as in provide all equipment, utensils and food and more importantly, clean up afterwards!! TIA

I have looked into this in the past when I thought we were returning back to UK but then we didn't! There is good links and guidelines on the gov.uk website. According to this website, it is possible. You should have a decision in 3-4 weeks and costs between £400/£500! Good luck!

This is not on! Surely if you are standing in a rank, you get a taxi at that rate! You didn't call the taxi! You were in a rank waiting!!! It never ceases to amaze me the way the rules just change!! I know the few dirhams extra doesn't make a big difference but it's just the principle that gets to me!!! Aaaaaaargh! Rant over!

Hi ladies, I've got family visiting from London this weekend and wanted to do a simple Arabic lunch for them on Saturday. What would you recommend I serve them? Salads? I would like it to be as authentic as possible but without spending hours in the kitchen as I want to spend my time with them. Thank you

If there is anything else you think of before the move or even once you are there, just let me know. Happy to help....I know a move, no matter where it is too can be pretty daunting! Good luck, you will be happy in Bahrain I think. We were! Hubby actually prefers it to Dubai!!!

I didn't have kids in either school but I had friends with their kids in st Chris' and they really liked it. A friend worked at BSB and again she liked it. For some reason st Chris' always has a waiting list so the majority of people arriving mid year go to BSB. I never heard a complaint about either. There are lots of clubs to join in Bahrain and most members hang out here at weekends. Some are sports clubs, some social clubs. We had lots of friends there too so a lot of time was spent at bbqs in each other's houses...in the winter months that is!! There are cinemas too and some beaches, water parks for the kids, horse riding and lots of sports so always something to do. You do need to put yourself out there in Bahrain, but if you have kids you will straight away have a social circle from school that will keep you busy and take care of your spare time! There are lots of little 'spas' with very reasonably priced treatments so I was always happy to indulge! The one thing that we found difficult at times was the drive for my husband every morning and evening. It took 1-1.5 hours in the morning and sometimes more in the evenings, especially on a Thursday! Early to bed and early to rise! But if your husband has a driver, all he needs to do is sit back, that will take the hassle out of it for him.

Hi Supernoodle, I have done the move but in reverse order. Lived in Bahrain before our posting to Dubai. My husband also worked in Saudi and travelled across and back every day. You are right, Bahrain is a LOT smaller than Dubai but it has everything you could need. Good schools, lots of malls, good coffee shops, nice restaurants, etc. In relation to housing, I would recommend you live on the causeway side of Bahrain....traffic in Bahrain is crazy at 'Rush hour' and to and from the causeway can be a nightmare. Saar is a really good place to live for this. Plus it's near Hamala where the British school is and also just a stones throw from St Chris's if you got places there. There is a supermarket called Al Osra which is like the Spinneys here, very handy. There is also a Carrefour in the city centre mall but is very busy like the one here so I avoided it!! I'm not sure what else you would like to know but any questions, just ask. I am more than happy to help if I can!

Ted Morgan is great. That's where I go and have always been happy. It is pricey but worth it!! They have two branches, one on the palm and the other in motor city.

So I went in to MMI to ask them. He said in order to be 'legal' I need to have my own. It's 270AED. I need to submit all the documents again plus a letter of no complaint from my husband. He said my husbands license would cover me to drink in my house but not outside. He did say unless you do something stupid and attract police attention that you would be OK! I don't ever drink a lot but I don't think I want to take the chance! Just want to make sure I'm covered!!

Yes, it's more for the police I'm wondering about. Purchasing is not a problem as my husband and I tend to go together to stock up. It's more a case of being out at night and being stopped by the police! I want to make sure I am covered for this?? The back of my husbands card does say immediate family or something like that m is covered but I think it has changed??? And now wives need their own?? Or must have submitted their documents so their name is on file?? Quite confused

Hi ladies, I am on my husbands visa as I don't work at present, He has an alcohol license and my question is, does this cover me or do I need to have my own? TIA Hi cruiseaddict Sorry no his licence will not cover you. You must have your own one. He can apply for you. Doesn't take too long. :) Thank you! Had a feeling that might be the case but was hoping it wasn't!!!! ;)

Hi, I'm only seeing this now but hope it all worked out for you? I used this injection 3-4 times in early pregnancy and had the sane fears as you once I googled side effects. But I decided to trust my doctor. Thought they should know better than my google attempts!

I totally know how you feel. I have missed so many friends weddings because of living abroad and also so many family events...parents 50th, new nephews arriving, special birthday parties etc! I have been living the expat life for 10 years now and it doesn't get any easier! Everyone back home thinks I have the best life ever living over here and yes it is great but sometimes I would give anything to be back home at these times! It's hard but I have to put it in perspective too. It's a choice I made and I knew there would be sacrifices but it's still hard. I try to be part of all these events I am missing out on by organising something special....champagne in bridal suite for friends, special gifts to be delivered for birthdays etc! Could you maybe organise a nice present for your friend for her hen so you feel part of it? Maybe some bubbles in her hotel room? A beauty treatment in the spa? Or organise a couple of cocktails for her on arrival? I know it's not the same but at least this way you are still part of it without being there!

What is the Cheers app, seen it mentioned a few times? It's an app for drinks. Buy one bottle of wine, get one free. Buy one cocktail, get one free. Buy a house beverage, get one free. Works for me ;)

Hi, I have the fine dining app, the cheers app and the body and fitness app. They each have the same vouchers that their corresponding book does with extra added monthly and the app is a little cheaper and easier to carry around!!! If you want fine dining, you will need to buy the fine dining book or app. It is not included in the general entertainer, the general one has more casual eating places. Hope this helps!

If you like fine dining in really nice restaurants then it's definitely worth it. We like to go out 4-5 times a month so have gotten our money's worth! The cheers one is also great. We use them both weekly!

On the odd occasion I get static in my hair, I rub some hair serum Through the ends and that seems to sort it! Or some hairspray! But even when there is no static in my hair, I always get shocks off shopping trolleys, my car, shop doors, even other people! It is driving me insane! So if you find a way of stopping that, please let me know!!!

Hi ladies, Has anyone been to Beachcombers in Jumeirah Beach hotel recently? I am planning to go there in a few weeks when we have friends over to visit as the setting sounds lovely! I have heard some very mixed reviews about the food and service though! I would appreciate your thoughts if you have recently been! It would be 6 adults and a 10 year old. Thanks

I had a French gelish manicure at The Cure, Green community and it's excellent. Looks really natural and they did a great job. Just FYI you should give your nails a break after 2 or 3 applications. That's fab, thank you! I haven't had gelish done since Xmas cause my nails were ruined during a removal...so angry because until then my nails were in perfect condition! I now have a few months of growth left to get rid of the cracking and splitting nails! But I'm going on holiday next week and want to get gelish done for that! Will give them a break again once I come back! Thank you!

Good morning ladies, Can anyone recommend a salon that does a very good gelish manicure. The last thread I found on here was middle of last year! I have tried a few and the gelish either chips after a week or my nails get totally wrecked when they remove it. Does anyone use anywhere regularly and are happy with the results? As near to meadows as possible please! ;) thank you!

Hi ladies.... I too am at my wits end with spuds (potatoes) but for a different reason!!!!! Hubby and I love our mince and spuds or plain old mashed potato....but any potatoes I buy here are really really wet and soggy when mashed,...even if I dry them out before mashing.....anyone else had this problem and found potatoes anywhere that won't do this?? I normally buy in spinneys or geant!!! Being Irish the perfect potato is an essential for us ha ha
