And there is always the Majlis Gallery, the building housing the Foundation for Cultural Understanding (can talk to volunteers about Islam and local customs), there is an Arabic restaurant further down towards the creek (in the B), and also the mosque there allows "infidel" visitors. From there, I usually take visitors (via the Museum) thru "Little India"'s alleyways past the Hindu temple to the creek, rent an abra to the Heritage Village... don't forget the Sheikh Saeed House there... great pictures of Old Dubai before the oil boom, amongst other things, and a great view of the creek... Have a lovely time with your visitors!

I would have very much second thoughts taking maids to UK, US, or anywhere else for that matter. Do you know just how many of them have absconded whilst there? Seems to be a virtual racket... and it does not matter just how good they have it here and are well treated. Perhaps some inquiries with your consultates/embassies would be prudent!

If I am remembering correctly, look for shops in the "J" section of Dragon Mart... The other alternative could be the factories in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Asfour, etc. To purchase they [i'>might [/i'>require trade licence, tough.

Hey Eva B. Organic Food Store do have an Nettle Essence that stimulates hair growth. Whilst we all have to make do with what kind of hair nature gave us, your hair quality also reflects what "fuel" you give your body, so also look at your nutrition. This made a huge difference in my case...

Now that's exciting... great idea! In that case as you require quantity, I would suggest you try the wholesale souq in Deira. Location: as you enter the gold souq from the car park/bus depot side, go down to the T-junction where the gold souq continues towards the right. You turn left, continue along and across a r/a (about 3-4 min walk), then you will have a number of shops on your left that sell Swarovski/other crystals beads in bulk. Further info, contact me on crystalsindubai at yahoo dot com... Would also love to see your chandedier!

The Zoo Road is the connection road between Jum Beach Rd and Al Wasl; as you to from the Zoo towards AW, it's one of the last villas on the left, next to the (now vacated) Green ARt Gallery (although the sign is still there). Are you into handy-craft/jewelry making?

Hey Bianca, there is the Bead Palace in Jumeirah, Villa No 3 on the Zoo Road (with a blue gate) - they keep a fairly large stock of beads, Swarovski, crystal and glass/plastic (google them for contact). Otherwise, if you require quantities, there is a wholesale souq in Deira, close to the gold souq.

The salon I patronize in Jumeirah Palm Strip opens a sealed, sterilized set of tools right in front of the customer. In all my years of have manicures & pedicures there I never had a problem. Not the cheapest of nail spas, but then bargains aren't always bargains...

The authorities are fairly lenient when you renew a newly expired licence; however, there a fine is levied if you are caught driving with an expired document... The process of renewing is very easy and swift, as melbell writes!

Have done both and would straight away decide for a garage sale again! Having said that, a suitable set up (i.e. separate/outside from garden garage) and several helpers/watchers (theft preventers) are essential. We usually organize garage sales between several friends and have a few maids help us. Timings strictly from 8 - 11 or 12 (depending how much stuff we have); and yes, people are waiting outside from early, to be ignored! Adverts (including location map!) are usually distributed to about 10-12 supermarkets in Jumeirah/Umm Suqueim, placed on Dubizzle, Gulf News announcement pages, and wherever possible. Not to forget street signs leading from major road. And we prepare to have fun between us - coffee/tea & croissants...

Water quality, I would suspect.... consider using a water filter for your shower... To reactivate hair growth, look into natural remedies such as nettle tonic (available at the Organic Food Store).

Hi Sanddy, follow the Hatta Road past Dragon Mart, turn right towards the Sewage Plant, turn first left to the end of the road where you'll find the entrance to a vast plantation (with many "shops" inside). I had some great prices and lots of choices of plants.
