i always give money and a small gift (chocolates, digital frame, perfume, clothes, skincare products...) that the kids can give with a card they prepared themselves *Like* Extra money is the most welcome to them.

I would leave the Green Line at Oud Metha and walk up to American Hospital (which is NOT in the Healthcare City but opposite the Moevenpick Hotel in Oud Metha), or take a taxi from the station.

In order to collect for any kind of charity or event, they must have the authorization of the local government, i.e. be able to show a signed and stamped document by the UAE/Dubai Governments.

Where are the best places to buy decorations for National Day? I'd love to put up a flag at our house but then I'd feel like it goes against the allegiance for my home country, but I'm excited for National Day and want to do something to honor this country too. You can always fly your country's and the Emarati flag side by side.... perfectly acceptable!

Plant street between Iranian Hospital and Satwa has many different sizes and types of trees at very reasonable prices. Best purchase sometime first week of December, but availability until Christmas.

Hi Rose, sure know how frustrating and disheartening such event can be... I just about broke even for yesterday! Yesterday's bazaar had a great atmosephere for visitors, yet was far too packed and crammed for exhibitors. Many people just passed, barely taking a glance at any stall - it's not that they are not interested in just your lovely, unique goods, they are just not interested in buying anything. As you know I had no competitors on this bazaar (apart from the hand-crafted jewelry) - made no difference! In my opinion and experience, there are simply too many bazaars/markets at this time of the year - visitors are suffering from buyers' fatigue! My decision is to call it quits - except for one (or possibly two) events. Love to chat/write with you and brainstorm a bit. If interested, write to me at "this username" at yahoo dot com. edited by crystalsindubai on 20/11/2011

Zurich / Luzern & surroundings are beautiful to visit. Zurich's old town; picturesque Luzern, from there up to Grindelwald near the Eiger, from there go by train up to the eternal ice/glacier. I love travelling by car, especially as you can stop at your own whim at village inns/hotels where you are served with great dinners & most delicious breakfasts, experience Swiss' famed hospitality at its best. March, being the month of Spring equinox, will certainly have longer than six hours of daylight... Temperatures, who knows in these times of temperamental weather patterns? I would, however, not expect it to be very cold.

@ kiwispiers: nanny/maids contracts are not governed by the Labour Law but fall under domestic law that does allow for a 6-day week, no extra days for public holidays. @ OP: you are way too generous and easy-going. Sadly, the more you give and comply with their wishes (now, who's the boss here?) the more you are being asked. Do stop for your own sake and the sake of the domestics market in general! And before anyone brands me for speaking out about these kind of salaries and benefits for maids, please do remember/research what kind of salaries (in comparison) secretaries, clerks, etc. do receive, and they often have highschool diplomas+; they will also have to pay for their own accommodation & food.

I get v mixed up with them all and I've been here for 18 years .................. It is the Jumeirah Plaza that is pink. The Jumeirah Center is with windtowers, glassy & white/beige - the one closer to the Jumeirah Mosque.

Definitely not Jumeirah Town Centre or Beach Centre. It's further up quite near the Jumeirah Mosque end. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/shopping/reviews/5805-jumeirah-centre This article is almost 3 years old... both Bennetton & Sunny Days are no longer there...

Initially, at time of handover of the apartment to you, you should have 2 sets of access cards made available to you by the landlord. Any loss, damage is to the account of the tenant.

If your labour contract is wrong (lesser salary) the employee is intitel to get only the gratuity according the the salary mentioned there. Letter of the company is not enough. We changed all labour contracts after salaries rise to make sure that the gratuity is correct. [u'>by the way - if your total benefits are higher than your monthly salary its against the labour law.[/u'>cre So, what if the salary had changed during the course of a limited contract period? Surely, a new contract after expiry of that first contract will reflect that increase, but in the meantime employee monthly records will suffice to proof the correct benefits that must be taken into consideration for calculation of indemnity. In case of disagreement, the labour department will side with the employee. I seriously question the accuracy of your statement in paragraph 2.

Organic Foodstore & Cafe both in Emaar Business Park/Greens & Dubai Malls have a good choice. For your scratchy throat, take 1" fresh ginger slices, cut up 1 whole lemon; let come to a boil in 1 l water, then simmer for about 10-15 min. Sweeten with honey. Aside from soothing your throat, it's soooo delicious!

good morning ladies... since the eid holidays have now been declared i'm looking for ideas/places to go to (out of Dubai preferably... but within an hour's drive) that our family and friends can do a picnic/bbq at... possibly even do some swimming if there's a beach nearby... any recommendations? trying to stay out of dubai parks/beaches simply because from past experience we've seen how busy and crowded they get over the holidays... I am digressing here a little in terms of timing. My plans for National Day are to partake celebrations at the foot of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain. Several years ago, I (together with a group of foreign visitors) had an absolutely fabulous experience with local hospitality; ever since then, I wanted to repeat this wonderful time.

We went through TOP CLASS Real Estate for our villa and we are having problems with our landlord, not paying for repairs and not delivering on promises. When we contacted the real estate agent to help us, we were told that they cannot help us and that the commission we paid was ONLY for them introducing us to the property and the landlord and nothing else.. I mean WTF.... Does anyone know, can we report them or is there nothing we can do about, like most things in dubai??? Legally, it is correct that the agency's job is complete with the handover of the property and it's documentation. In my professional experience, however, the agency would, if in a position, try to mediate/assist with the landlord.

If you are talking about the Sh Ahmed Compound between Park n Shop & Safa Park, I know they usually are very much occupied; you could check with Mohd Kurshid at 04-345 1111. Please be aware that they had been marked to be torn down almost 3 years ago, but this decision was postponed due to the recession. The new Al Wasl Square (townhouse compound) is located between this Sh Ahmed compound and Safa Park, and looks as if it could be ready by Feb.

Hi Ladies. I have looked through the threads on here about bead shops and found some older ones about Naif Souk. Has anyone been here in the past year who can tell me if these stores are still open here...and how to get there? I followed some directions from 2009 yesterday, but they lead me nowhere! Also, does anyone know if this souk will be open this afternoon or tomorrow (with it being Eid)? I have been to Fida in Satwa, but they don't have what I'm looking for (and their prices seem to keep going up)! I also am going to try the Crystal House that people have posted about...anyone know if they are open today? Thanks!! Nowadays, I use the Metro to visit the Gold Souk (the red line to Khalid Bin Waleed, the change to green line; exit at the station before Palm Deira; from there it is walking distance to the multi-level Gold Souk Bldg. Using this entrance to the gold souk, walk to the T-junction (approx 300 m), turn left, walk approx 300-400 m across a r/a intersection. You should then be in the habedashery wholesale market. I would guess that the market will be closed the first day of Eid, but should be open the following days by 5 pm. Perhaps if you could let me know what kind of beads, accessories you are looking for, I could possibly give you further advise.
