I would also highly recommend barefoot... We just had a shoot with them paid 999dhs and came away with 50 pictures all in high res, low res, black and white, sepia and aged. All sent on email so you can do as you please with them. I was so happy with Alex on the day as well as the pictures, he really captured some precious moments. Good luck in your search.

How about if a maid is sponsored by her husband?? Could we then provide a labour card or is this also illegal??

I have used easytruck for my last two moves and I had a really good experience with them and have recommended them to others. I would not want someone to unpack my boxes and put everything in the wrong places as I would spend the next few days hunting for things! They came and collected my empty boxes a few days later!! They can't please everyone!!!!

I love a labour story and my advice the would be to go home.... Its more familiar with no language barrier!!! While you are talking of fast labours my best friend in the UK had her first baby in 1hour 20 mins and her second in..... 7mins!! She was at another friends baby shower and 3 days away from her due date. She was in a hotel having afternoon tea and leant forward to get a cake when she felt something. She said to another friend she needed to leave NOW!!!!! As she went to sit down she realised there was no time and told everyone to get out the room.... Thinking she was being a little dramatic, the girls were trying to calm her down. She was screaming at another friend to get her tights off as the baby was there.... True enough within seconds the baby was born in the restaurant of a hotel.... 7 mins from leaning forward to get a cake!! Mother and baby were absolutely fine and very lucky an off duty midwife was viewing the hotel as a potential wedding venue and turned up very shortly after the baby was born. An ambulance was there very quickly!! I definitely wouldn't want to go through that here in Dubai. I went back to the UK for both my children's birth as the after care is brilliant and the advice you gain is invaluable in my opinion. Good luck with your decision, and good luck with the birth!!

sarahlou123, maybe i mis-heard them this morning!!! It's true part-time jobs hardly exist and the ones i have come across pay so little that DH would be paying for me to go to work in nursery fees!! Makes no sense. So many women here desperate for part-time work companies should consider job sharing!! For some mummies it works and for others it doesn't. I am going to give it a try and see what happens. Nothing ventured nothing gained!!!! Good luck to all the other ladies out there who are in the same quandary as me, i hope it works out for you all!! Superdoodle: It sounds to me like you should quit and have a little break until something else comes your way!!??

It would be so nice to have my OWN money and a little nest egg for just in case (you don't know what is around the corner) All to often I am reminded that DH provides this life here which enables me to spend lots of time with our children. I am of course grateful and he will only throw it out there during an argument or when he is stressed with work!! So it would be nice to be able to use my money for things?!?! I heard on the radio this morning that part-time work is now legal here in the private sector... could be a start of a new wave of jobs. I have sent my CV to a few companies so lets see what happens. I might not even get a job?!?!

It's really good to hear all the different answer's... My kids are currently in Nursery 3 half days a week for the added stimulation and they love it there and gain so much from it. I am lucky I don't have to work, but like everyone says, it's full time or nothing!! I am not a career person but I do like to work and have a focus. I am currently climbing the walls and really need something to activate my brain. I really want it all... My ideal situation would be to work the 3 mornings the kids are in nursery but the chances of finding a job like that is like winning the lottery! I think I will put my CV out there and see what happens. I like the advice to make sure the job is worth it and I can always quit if it isn't working out for my family. Lets see where I end up!?!

Thanks Mich25, It's interesting to hear. I want it all, to work, have the money and the time with my kids... It just can't happen! Which nursery do you have them at? Are they there all day? The adult company and engaging my brain is my main reason for going to work and the pay is a bonus!! It will enable us to start saving.... which of course is the reason we are here!! I wish there was part time work which paid reasonable money!!

I used the jumperoo for both my children and they reached all developmental milestones on time and in the case if my son ahead if time. He was crawling at 5 months and is almost walking at 9 months. I couldn't imagine a baby being happy in it for a great length if time... There will always be negative and positive about everything!!!!

I've read this thread in complete dis-belief!!!! I don't understand why these young children aren't in their beds??? My DH and I have completely adapted our lives to suit our children which in my opinion is what becoming a parent is all about. We are always home by 7pm so they can get into their beds.... If we are out having lunch or early dinner I have enough things to keep them occupied!! And we only go to a child friendly place!! The kids are generally tired which is why they are playing up!!! Get them to their beds and let them sleep!! Being a mum it's nice to go out to a child free place for some time out!!!! You see them in the malls at 11pm and the parents look bewildered when their child is screaming.... It's such a shame for these kids....

We went to this brunch last weekend and I can confirm it's really lovely. You can sit inside or out and at tables or on the grass on blankets and deck chairs for a picnic style brunch. It's two for one until end of Jan which makes it even better. You are right opposite the Irish village so have the duck pond and little park there. We had a great time and would definitely go again!

Thanks so much for all these suggestions... I am off to C4 tomorrow to stock up on nik naks and wrapping paper!!! I understand the 'sit down and do as your told' thing but it's a bit hard to get that through to a two year old and I'd much prefer to be armed with some distractions. The last time I flew home, I was on my own and had plenty to keep her occupied and the flight was fine. It's a shame other mums aren't as organised. A few rows back was a family of 4. It was a fairly empty flight so plenty of room. The father had taken himself off to the two seats by the window and plugged himself into the movie and the mother had done the same in the 4 seats. The kids were ignored all flight to the point where the screaming got so unbareable I asked if they wanted to come and play!! The youngest one did... I didn't even get as much as a thank you!?! PS. I think we must be the only people without an iPad... Maybe it's time to invest?!

He was wondering what films they will be showing... Ha ha... I didn't say a word. I forgot they even showed films on the flight as I usually travel on my own with them!! Will be armed with plenty of snacks and treats for bribery purposes!!! It shouldn't be too bad!!!

I saw the owner of the hit car and the police arrive so I sent DH round to tell them what I saw... the guy was really grateful and like you said at least it would help with the insurance quote!! Nomad, that is a terribly sad story!! Im so sorry for you and your family!! I would call the police but all I saw was a white car speeding off. I couldn't even tell you the make of the car so not sure I would be of any help?! You should still report it as it may help with the victim's insurance claim. Also, if you can pinpoint the time, they may miraculously have the w@nker on camera Seriously... another fire... very worrying... hope no one was hurt?!?!

Hi I have the baby jogger city mini double. It's a side by side pram and so far I haven't had any problems fitting through any doors. I have the carrycot for the baby and my toddler sits comfortably next to him. The seats recline fully so it's great for when they need to sleep. My baby is nearly 3 months old and won't be fitting in the carrycot for much longer!! I also have the baby jogger city mini single for when I am out and about with just one and a buggy board for short trips with both. It's working well for us at the moment. It was a tough decision but I'm happy!! Good luck in your decision making!!

Hi My DD has an umbilical hernia and she has just turned 2. I'm not rushing the surgery. I've also been told by various doctors that it could heal as she gets older. (grow into it) It doesn't bother her although you can see it in certain outfits. If I were you I wouldn't rush into surgery... Your LO is still so young!!

Hi, I have flown back for the birth of both my children. With my DD she arrived on time so my husband had a full two weeks with her before heading back to work in Dubai. I followed 4 weeks later which was fine. I had established some kind of routine and had loads of help from family. It went so well that when it came to having the next one I decided to fly home again. I flew at 35 weeks but felt really stressed because I thought baby was coming early. How wrong was I. DH flew over a week before my due date and then we all sat around for 3 weeks as baby didn't want to come out. The NHS let you go 12 days past your due date. I was due to be induced on my 12 day while DH was still here but the delivery suite got so busy I was sent home. DH had to fly back the next day as he had to get back to work and couldnt extend his stay any longer. I went into labour the day he left so he missed the birth. I then had to wait a week to register him and get birth certificate to apply for the passport. 4 weeks on and we are STILL waiting for the passport and daddy still hasn't met his son. I cant fault the NHS. All the midwives have been brilliant and the aftercare you get from the NHS is really good. If anything it's good to know your doing things right. They give you so much info it's so good. With regards to baby items. I agree with what others have said. It's definetly worth buying big things like prams etc here but I wouldn't bother with nappies and wipes as it is only a small saving. I'm sure whatever you decided will be right for you. Good luck!!

My DH went to A&E at Rashid Hospital. He was admitted and ended up staying 8 nights and having surgery while he was there. He had anti-biotic drip the whole time he was there and the total cost was about 3000AED. We were dreading the cost but was pleasantly surprised. The care was good and it was no different to a NHS hospital in the UK. Also, I took my DD to the Iranian A&E for stitches in her foot and I found all staff really friendly and caring. Everybody has different experiences though. I hope your son is better soon.

I actually find this sad. Moms putting their finances before their children. I mean this in the kindest way possible. Yes it is sad we have to juggle family life with work but given the choice I think we would all have a money tree sitting in our garden and not have to go out to work to support our family. To the OP, good luck in your decision making!! I know the nursery my DD goes to offers after school clubs and is open until 6. I'm not sure on the cost though. She is at Littlewoods. A nursery can be more expensive than a maid/nanny which is what I have found out. I am one of the lucky ones with a part-time job and only work 3 days a week 8-2... but a part-time job offers part-time money so once I have paid out for the nursery I am not left with much. However, I like the fact my DD is interacting with others and learning/doing things she would not if she was at home with me and I get to focus on something other than nursery rhymes and nappies for a few hours. I have a second on the way so paying for 2 lots of fees might sway me to get a nanny and pocket a bit more money for some luxuries!! For those who say maybe you should go home if you can't afford to be here - it isn't that simple... we are from the UK and at the moment there is nothing on offer there other than a life on benefits as jobs are so hard to come by. While DH has a job here and bringing enough to support a modest lifestyle we will stay. Life would be just as hard if not harder in the UK!!!!

We had a late night intruder in JLT... DH had been out on a work do and left the front door unlocked. I was not quite asleep when I heard the door go. I woke DH from his alcohol induced coma and he caught the man by the lifts. At first the man claimed he lived in the tower and had come to our apartment by mistake... (he was going through a plastic bag I had left by the front door) then he said he was going to a party in the building... All rubbish. We called the Police who came and took him away. The fact he was carrying a large bag with 2 bottles of Whisky in didn't help his case!! The security in our tower are not great but the police we very good. Opportunists... or a gang?!?! Door remains LOCKED at all times now!! Scary but luckily nothing was taken and the guy was caught. One less to worry about!! Stay safe ladies...

We've got nephew coming over from Vancouver and the contrast will be amazing for him, though I think I'm going to be more impressed than the teenagers if Father Christmas rides in on a camel from the desert! Depending on weather, will get full pool day as well! Have you opted for a table inside or out... I have just booked a table there as didn't want to be doing nothing on xmas day!! They didn't mention pool access to me... is that included in the price?? Can anyone comment on the food...

Hi gingercat, Littlewoods is a nursery!! I'm not sure why you would think I was suggesting a stranger look after your child. My DD goes to the nursery from 8-2. You don't have to send your child from 7-6 that's just when they are open and fee's vary on hours spent there and how many times a week they go. Send them an email they will be able to advise you on fee's etc. My DD goes 3 mornings a week and they provide her lunch and I am very happy with the staff and facilities they have there. Good luck in your search.

I agree with nutty.. Do NOT put anything in your LO's ears. I too was a hosite for 10 years and have probably seen it all and heard the poor kiddies screaming because of their ear pain. A drink on take off and landing and something like Karvol on a tissue and inhaled can keep things clear and make things a little more comfortable. Good luck and safe travels!!

Hi Shelly, I started with using cows milk on DD cereal in the mornings and putting cows milk in a little sippy cup for her to drink cold, instead of giving her a bottle. (I started this around 11 months) Then her other bottles would be formula, for a couple of weeks. I found she was less interested in her bottle after lunch so that soon got dropped and I introduced a yoghurt instead. I gave her formula before bed until I ran out and then gave her warm cows milk and she was fine with that. The health visitor in UK told me that from 1 year you don't need to sterilise the bottles and they only need a total of 1 pint of milk a day. That can be in the form of cheese and yoghurts etc. I give a yoghurt at about a 2ish which is when she used to have a bottle. That keeps her going until dinner. She is 14 months now and doing great. She only has a bottle for bed now and this is slightly warm full fat cows milk. It's tough to make changes as you realise they are growing up so quick.... in the next few months you will notice huge changes and it's lovely. Good Luck and enjoy. :)

Hi, My 14 month DD goes there. She has been there for nearly 3 weeks now. I love everything about it. The kind staff, the facilities and activities they have there are great and they send me pictures and updates regularly. I'm very happy with the Nursery and during my search I visited quite a few and there was just such a lovely feeling there. I have no problems leaving my precious LO in their care as the staff are very loving. It's taking her a bit of time to settle in but I'm sure she'll settle soon enough. Even staff I have never seen before know her name when we get there. I am more than happy with the place. I'll be interested to hear what you think tomorrow. Good luck in your search, I found it quite hard when I was looking.
