Sorry you are going through this, I understand there are only three centres offering radiotherapy and it's very expensive, The American Hospital Dubai, Al Ain Hospital and GICC Abu Dhabi. There is a support group called Brest friends on Facebook which may be worth contacting for information. this link might be useful. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic214227-breast-cancer-treatment.aspx

Are you certain your DH's company doesn't provide international cover? My DH has always had international cover for both of us provided by his employer. BUPA (combined with a local provider) and AXA to name two such policies.

I used to cook the turkey breast in casserole so I think crock pot would work the same way. Can't actually find my recipe but I roughly chopped winter veg added the turkey and covered in cider ( expect apple juice might be a substitute) the alcohol will cook out anyway. It keeps the meat very moist and tasty.

you say you have come to Dubai before yet: - you know the name of "the ranches" but you don't know the name of Sheikh Zayed Road.... (named after the late king and most prominent figure here) - you know that the churches are mixed in race but you don't know that all women can wear abayas, and jalabiyas... Yet you say you have been here? Had you not seen what people were wearing?? - You say you are from the country, yet you are admit to live on the beach which are in the busiest areas of town... - you say you have been here, yet you clearly didn't notice that Dubai is a city like any other in the world. Thus if you have a house on the beach which has a yard, why on earth wouldn't you be able to put a pergola, or a tent, or a bbq, or even a statue of a rabbit there??? Its your yard!! I'm so confused by this thread. If you are indeed real you have very skewed perspectives on Dubai and perhaps even the whole world outside your small town bubble.... Yeah, indeed, Tessa if from such a deep countryside that no one delivers to them, so poor woman has to cook every day for her CEO husband who works in a very successful company, probably also located in the countryside with no restaurants there. And now they must live on the beach! This thread is keeping me and my collegues amused for hours. But on the delivery topic have a look on google maps for Stonehaugh, Northumberland. We don't have any deliveries there. Poor us :( What a lovely place to live GE. Wild Northumberland, I'd say it's worth the inconvenience of no deliveries to live in such a special place. ?

Make sure you drink plenty of bottled water(preferably spring or mineral rather than filtered drinking water) Dehydration is a common problem with new arrivals (including myself) many of your symptoms could be attributed to that. The tap water is said to be drinkable but I wouldn't drink it unless I didn't have an alternative and bottled water is cheap and easily available. If you are sure you aren't pregnant you could get medication easily from the pharmacy to assist with the dizziness and motion sickness that then causes the symptoms of nausea.

No walkathon this year - got this info from Brest Friends - too late to register for next meeting but this was the info sent out - might get more info after meeting which I'm happy to pass on. For our next meeting, we are delighted to invite Liz Bamford and Ela Eldem- who is the Head of Marketing at Burjuman, to come and talk to us about the Safe and Sound Campaign and the Walkathon which is taking an exciting change in direction and the collaboration with our very own Brest Friends group! Launched in 1997 and now in its 19th year, Safe & Sound is one of the Middle East’s most prominent breast cancer awareness campaigns and BurJuman remains a proud and committed partner. As a key and integral part of this year’s campaign we have decided to replace the walkathon element of our fundraising events with an APP that we believe will reach out to and ultimately involve many more individuals within the UAE and beyond, who may not previously have been so directly involved with our campaign. We are hoping to reach more people and raise more money to help more women in need and the proceeds will all go to Brest Friends Ela is very happy to talk about this new direction and introduce the APP to us, and to listen to the opinions of our esteemed Brest Friends team to further develop the campaign – so we look forward to seeing many of you at our meeting, as your opinion and ideas matter!

We had a family holiday there two years ago and had a lovely time. A bit run down in places and rustic but a refreshing change from Dubai. I think the OP is referring to the influx of refugees which has hit Malta together with many other Mediterranean islands.

Hi Sarahlou, yes I agree, such a grey area here. however having read the post this morning we rang and double checked again and were told definitely ok, third party only mind you, and this was RSA?! So suspect it is still a confusing picture! Very curious we are with RSA and def told DD could NOT drive private car on visit visa. See copy of their response and my original query Dear *** As per ministry, visiting visa holder can not drive a personal car. But rent a car is allowed to drive as long as she is having international driving license. Once she got resident visa, can convert her UK driving license here and start the driving. Thanks & Regards Dear Antony, Can you advise me as to wether our daughter aged 27 visiting Dubai, currently on a UAE visit visa from UK can drive our cars on her UK licence. Please advise me on procedure needed to facilitate this if it is possible. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards

Def can't drive a private car on foreign licence/tourist visa. We double and triple checked with our insurance. DD stayed with us for three months and we had to hire her a car, very frustrating and costly as I had just had knee surgery and couldn't drive so my car didn't move out of its parking space for almost three months and she had to ferry me around in a hire car.

I very rarely go to MOE due to problems getting parking spaces with all the construction going on and also lack of places to sit. If I have to go there and need a rest ( also dodgy knees) I'd just sit either in the food courts or any nearby cafe. Staff rarely approach me so I can take a five minute breather and then continue on my way - even during Ramadan when the cafes were closed or only doing take outs I often saw people sitting in the cafes on lap tops, phones etc or just taking a rest. Not ideal I know but I'd rather brazen it out and have a much needed rest than struggle on.

It really depends on the wording of policies some only pay out once a doctor has declared the policy holder is deemed to have less than 12 months to live. Some don't cover all cancers as some will be deemed survivable. There are specific 'well woman' health policies which pay out regardless once certain cancers are diagnosed but that's a totally differt policy to critical illness.

Sorry I don't as I didn't go it was the day after I had my op and didn't move from the sofa! DH went on his own. As it was a Friday morning not many of the shops were open so he didn't have a great choice. I think he haggled down to 800 aed it wasn't the cheapest model as mine needed the leg supports. There are quite a few disability aid shops there so shouldn't have a problem finding what you need. I can ask DH for more details when he gets in but can't promise he'll remember. He'd also looked at Life Pharmacy ( their big store on corner of Al Wasl Road ) as we'd been told they sell cheap wheelchairs and also rent them out. But when he went they had none to rent and ones to buy weren't what we were after but might be worth a look.

Download the RTA app 'Smart Taxi' I find it works s dream most of the time as long as you avoid the known busy periods. It's great, once your booking is accepted you get a red number, car number and drivers name. You can also track the taxi on its route to you. Normal booked taxi rates apply.

Use one of the many visa run services ie Hatta Run or Go Tours they take you from pick up points in Dubai in a people carrier or minibus with others through the border and back average cost 150 dhs each plus 50 dhs for visa. Or take a day trip by plane to Muscat.

I didn't know West 14th is closing. We really like that steakhouse. Are they going to open something new? Do guests need to pay if they want to use the pool, I have one friend living in another building on the Palm and she said her visitors needed to pay 100 dhs to use the facilities of the building. Yes West 14th is closing as the whole building has been sold so it's very unclear what the future Oceana will be - only time will tell. I am also disappointed that West 14th is closing one of my favourite places.

So all the labourers on construction sites and municipality workers were sent home? Great news! The Government is enforcing the laws! Or was that part of the news feed? Summertime working starts June 15th and lasts for three months. Basically they can't work in direct sunlight from 12.30 till 15.00 Many construction workers will work split shifts or continue during these hours but not work in direct sunlight. The municipality makes sure these laws are enforced and use surveillance drones to monitor sites.

City center Mall currently being built at IMPZ next to Sports City due to be completed third quarter of this year but don't hold your breath that it'll be ready on time see link http://www.majidalfuttaim.com/en/media/get/20140303_tecom-maf-press-release-english.pdf I'd say the nearest mall is Ibn Battuta Mall. The Mall of the Emirates is also easy to get to and accessible by bus. Plenty of shops at Motor City including a massive Spinneys but no mall as such more like a promenade of shops and cafes and food outlets.

Thanks for the reply. I don't yet have medical for him as our medical insurance requires him to have residency - and I can't get residency without medical insurance? Is that right? I also have my employment contract/salary cert but they not attested. All the rest of my docs were attested in the UK before I left. How does that process begin here? Thanks again Medical insurance won't cover medical for sponsorship. This has to be done first as part of the visa process. Most employers companies PRO would help you do this, you would have to pay all the costs and possibly a premium to the company but it's usually the easiest way of doing it. I'd email head of your HR department to try and enlist support from them.

After lots of research, discussion and consideration we decided to use all our spare money to buy properties in UK we let these properties and hopefully these will provide us with sufficient income so that when we retire we can use this to rent properties anywhere we fancy spending a month or two. This mean we aren't tied to any property abroad and if we don't particularly like a certain place we can move on and vice versa if we really like it we can stay longer. I have serious concerns that my DH likes the "dream" of retiring to warmer (than UK) climes, he's a creature of habit and not as adventurous as he thinks he is! So I think monthly rentals wherever we fancy is a safer option. We like the idea of having the legal back up of British law and the security that provides, even considering the taxation implications once we return to the UK we feel for us this is a win win situation. Just posting a different option that you might like to consider. edited by dally on 30/04/2015

In the middle of this process right now for DD. Documents have to go back to UK for Attestation I used Index Global, recommended by a friend http://www.indexdubai.com/division.php?did=2 it's not cheap but unless you have someone in London who could go personally for you ( after you've paid to courier the documents to them ) you don't really have a lot of choice. I do have the contact details of a lady in UK who does this as a business, again recommended by a friend. I could give you her details if you post your email address. In hindsight for us she would have been slightly cheaper but we would have had to arrange courier collection and deal with the red tape here when documents arrive back here and felt is was better for us to pay the extra and have all the work done for us. edited by dally on 12/04/2015

Hi Schnuppi, I would definitely register with Ejari for a couple of reasons: protection for you as a tenant (in case of disputes, you need an Ejari certificate to register a case with the Rent Committee) and also for other purposes (renewing residence visas, setting up Du/Etisalat, etc.). It's a 5 minute process at the Municipality on Sh Zayed Road (opposite Times Square shopping centre), which is where I did it. But apparently it can be done online too: [url=http://www.ejari.ae/tenantcertificate/tc_certificate_registration.aspx'>link[/url'> - scroll down to "Full e-Service Process". The documents you need are mentioned. Thanks for this info, I tried doing it online using the link and it failed right at the end. So I followed your directions and went to the Manara Municipality and it was very easy - in and out in 30 mins. Great service.

Thanks..Is there a reason why they split the job offer into allowance for housing , transportation , and basic salary ? Yes they split the salary into sections so that when you complete your contract and leave, your gratuity is worked out as a percentage of your basic salary without allowances. Better for employee to have higher basic and lower allowances and vice versa for the employer ?
