Fiat Thanks Fiat500 this link didn't work on my ipad and only offered phone numbers but from the full site on my pc an email form was available and it worked. Thanks ladies for all your good wishes. Post op now and back in Dubai getting some much needed sun before returning to UK for radiotherapy in 3 weeks time. Surgery went really well and best possible results so all looking good. I know it's not the end of the journey but one major hurdle overcome and taking things one step at a time. Have been overwhelmed with the support and good wishes and prayers thank you to all you lovely ladies in making the journey more bearable.

Oops I managed to delete my last post ?so here it is again... Well that's the decision made surgery booked for here in the Uk two weeks sooner than I could have it done in Dubai. That wasn't the only factor to consider but certainly made this option more desire able. Thanks everyone for your reassuring replies, good wishes and offers of support . I am feeling quite positive and my dd's seam less shell shocked now that we have had time to talk things through more thoroughly and enjoying our "family time". Foolnightsleep thanks for the offer to let me contact you. I will once my head stops spinning x

Thanks everyone for the good wishes, back in the UK (on a scheduled visit booked 10 months ago) so the hardest part of telling our daughters and family is done. Surgery booked for return to Dubai in a few weeks but I am getting a second opinion here today and depending what's said might delay my return and have surgery here having the advantage of family support. So lots to think about, but taking each challenge one day at a time. Thanks foolnightsleep, give me time to find out what's happening and I will def get in touch. It's as I said great how EW ladies are willing to support and share. A very special community.

A few weeks ago I reached out for information and advice as I had discovered a lump. After many tests and hospital visits the diagnosis was confirmed - Breast Cancer. I have been on a merry-go-round of hospital visits, tests and discussions ever since. However I managed to touch base with a lovely lady who recently went through a similar experience who kindly offered me her support. Today I met with her and just talking it through with someone who has first hand knowledge is a great comfort and no question was too trivial or too stupid. I just wanted to say "thank you" to her and also to all the ladies on EW who reach out and offer support and advice to strangers without you life would be a lot tougher.

and.........nothing beats self checks either, once a month is important (always keen to promote this one as that's how I found my tumour!!!) Im religious about this. Well highlighted! Hope you are doing well now! 18 months clear and fighting fit :o)))))))))))) Hi Scribs, I got confirmation of bc this week (found by self examination previous mammogram 18 months ago was clear), seeing oncologist soon, before surgery during the next few weeks. Everything is happening so fast and can't get my head around it all, would you be willing to chat to me about your experiences as I am sure you realize talking with someone who has gone through it all would be beneficial. Sorry to have hijacked this thread, but if offered mammogram and ultrasounds I would not hesitate to have them done.

Hope you feel better soon Ruth, but just a thought - will the airline let you take a bottle bigger than 100ml on the plane - even if it has less than 100ml in the bottle they won't let you take a bottle bigger than that even if it only had a teaspoonful in (liquid rules) if I was you I would take your medication to a chemist and ask them to decant it into a small bottle (enough for the flight) and attach a proper medication label to it.

Sounds good - will def give it a try - but please note this is actually a lovely version of Cottage Pie (beef) - Shepherd's Pie is usually known to be made with Lamb. I made a healthier version of sheperds pie tonite for dinner. Family and friends loved it. Thought i'd share. A little bit different from the original recipe but very healthy. Stuffing: 1lb lean ground beef preferably organic 3 tbsp gluten free soy sauce or more depends on your taste 2 tsp tomato paste 1 cup peas 1 cup carrots 1/2 cup corn Pinch of salt Half of onion Topping: 3-4 pieces of sweet potato 1 cup soy milk or almond milk 1/2 cup fat free cream cheese Boil water in a pan and steam the sweet potatoes. You can boil the sweet potatoes but it takes some of the nutrients. Steam is much better. While waiting for the sweet potatoes to be soft and ready to mashed, saute all the ingredients for stuffing. Once cooked transfer to a baking dish. Mash the sweet potato and combine all ingredients in a bowl. Topped it to the stuffing put in the oven and bake for 20mins at 150C. Enjoy! I have a recipe too for a mug cake for late night cravings. Taste like real cake but healthified! :)

Ask your building security if they know of tenants who don't have cars...might be worth making friends with them. Predict there will be a mass exodus of people once their leases are up.. let's face it most people moved to JLT because of the ease of parking and availability of spaces. Now it's a nightmare I can't visit my friend there any more due to no spaces (there are supposed to be 2 hour parking spots on the main level but getting one of these is rarer than hen's teeth) cars are jamming up the ramps, car horns tooting at all hours and unable to even get near the main entrance of the buildings in a taxi. R.I.P. JLT

I had a check up at http://www.dulsco.com/medicalservices with a cobone offer. Saw a lovely lady dentist, not a posh expat medical centre but more geared to the blue collar workforce situated in the industrial area of Al Quoz but the place was clean, all staff friendly and professional and they had a separate ladies waiting room. I expect their charges are much more affordable and realistic than the more usual expat surgeries.

Congratulations on your 21st! I would give everyone a badge (about postcard size) get them to write on it, their name, how the know you (family, fellow student, colleague etc) and one sentence (or even one word) about some experience they share with you. These can be used to start conversations and share stories about the birthday girl. I would also make everyone move seats after each course, so everyone gets a better chance to mix. Have a great time and please report back : )

you may find beef dripping in the meat section, of a good butcher ... I haven't seen it here it's the beef alternative to lard. Seen beef dripping in "park n shop" in small plastic dishes - like what these use for coleslaw etc, found in the meat chiller display cabinet.

The advertisement is relevant to the previous thread, she sent a link about a company helping relocating expats, what is wrong with that? it is not that she selling shoes!!!! But she is recommending them as if she is a client..... And then touting for staff. Its OK to recommend a company even of you work for them, just be honest about it and then members can research the company and make their own conclusions. carloinehat Posts 11 04/06/2013 09:13:04 We are looking for some part time consultants in Dubai to work for a relocation company. please call me if you are interested

Some provinces have closed their immigration allocations for the time being as quotas have been reached. It might be worth researching which ones are accepting applications and cross reference this with the agency and if they are stating they can get you visas for the areas that have closed applications then you will have a reason to be wary.

If you have a friend who is qualified to drive here, but doesn't have a car, offer them free use of your car for the time you are away on condition that they take you and pick you up from the airport. I am sure a friend would be grateful for use of a car for a few weeks with little inconvenience to themselves. BTW I always offer my car to a friend but don't ask for a lift to the airport, even though I am sure she would take me. She always returns it with a full tank and fully valeted and full of thanks.

I have had so many bad hair experiences in the Middle East that my hair is destroyed! I found a salon in media city called Chill Salon which has quite a few Brits and other Europeans working there. They transformed my hair. Before, I could not even brush it, now it is so much better. Still a long way to go, but for me, I would definitely recommend them. Not sure about price unfortunately as it varies every time for me as I have conditioning treatments etc done on my hair. Hope you find someone you like. Helen (who used to be at London Style & Class Dubai Marina before it closed) is now working at Chill.

What is the problem with a company keeping someone's passport? A passport is a travel document. If you need to travel and your intentions are honorable, then I'm sure your company will give it to you so that you can travel and they trust you to return. I am American and I used to work in Taiwan and my company held my passport. If I needed it, they gave it to me. In this country with so many foreigners, companies and sponsors have a right to protect themselves. .. I totally disagree and I am sure a recent poster who needed her passport ASAP as a family member was seriously ill and needed to travel home.... As it happened over a weekend and could not get access to her passport it cause her distress and delay in getting home to loved ones. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic201477-urgent-please-help.aspx Accidents and emergencies are not timetabled to happen during working hours and as such immediate access to your passport is a right. We also have personal experience of this as we took the dreaded phone all from home at 4a.m. DH was on the 7 a.m. Flight home and was still too late to say goodbye to his dear mum, but atleast he tried to get home in time, if he hadn't had immediate access to his passport I dread to think of the extra distress this would have caused. edited by dally on 13/03/2013

Oh that has so reminded me of a spa I went to in Slovakia with DD's quite a few years ago. We were all having massage treatments one after the other....me going first. Well first shock was it was a male masseuse and whilst I kept bikini on it didn't offer any modesty, plus the curtains between cubicles weren't closed and everything on everybody was on show! My first thought was oh.... My babies are doing this next! Well not quite babies as they were 24 and 19 at the time..but still my babies! It was quite a shock to my system.... Well eldest DD thought the masseuse was so good she booked another massage for a few days later, I then realised they are more "women of the world" than I will ever be!
