Thanks sky kitty its uk and ek ;) my dd suffers hugely with her ears we have tried everything over the years, so this time I have been advsed by an ent to try a decongestion spray and i am thinking maybe a some pain relief on the way down. Depending on the child's age I always found giving them something to suck during take off and landing to alleviate the pressure. A bottle with teat, feeder cup, juice box with straw or if there is liquid restrictions buy a bottle of water/juice once through security, just remember to take some straws with you. For an older child or adult I find sucking a boiled sweet helps. I can remember the days when airline staff used to distribute boiled sweets before take off and landing, I expect f**>~<g H&S rules stopped that in case someone choked and sued! :\:

If I was you I would not advertise selling entertainer books as their T/C's state vouchers are void if sold as they are non transferable. I know lots of people do swap/sell/give away etc but please do on the QT!

We've been several times, sometimes with kiddies and sometimes not. When we've been adults only we've always been seated in Carters and when we've been with kids, in the main Blue Orange area, so they may seat you accordingly. I completely agree with Appletiser though! Sup up. Is there a carters in the Westin? I thought that was at Wafi :-) FFx I think you mean Hunters Room and Grill :)

I've been in hospital here a few times in Dubai and cannot praise the standard of care highly enough. I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have already had 4 scans - in the UK I would have had maybe 1, and spent 5 mins with a midwife. You've had 4 scans, not because you need them.........but because the hospital can claim a hefty sum from your insurance company. Hospitals here do x rays, scans etc here as a matter of routine as they generate lots of income are are not always needed. 11 weeks pregnant and already 4 scans I would have worried on the health effects of so many scans so early. Yes health care is good here as it has an unlimited supply of cash, but given an emergency I would prefer the good old NHS any day.

In my eyes getting a babies ears pierced at such a young age constitutes child abuse. Any reputable establishment refuses to pierce children's ears my SIL works in a jewellers and they won't do it to anyone under the age of 16, even with the parent present. My other SIL was a nurse and can relate many horror stories related to ear piercing and of children having accidents with getting earrings caught in all manner of ways. In fact they put her off getting her own years pierced until she was over 40 and still will only wear small studs.

What one person thinks of decent may be indecent to another, the boundaries are very smudged here. It must be quite confusing for tourist sometimes, posters, adverts show scantily dressed women and even an advert/promo for Dubai regularly shown on TV shows a lady in a spaghetti strapped dress/top which looks fine out for dinner etc but she is also seen in the same outfit at the gold souk and on an abra etc. Talk about giving out mixed messages.

I was once on a budget airline flight (Jet2) and was very surprised and pleased that they take nut allergies seriously as SIL has a nut allergy. They announced that on their drinks promo with certain beers you got a free packet of nuts, but as a passenger had an allergy they would still give out the nuts but asked passengers not to open and eat them during the flight but to pack them away to eat later at destination and I must say I was so pleased that everyone respected this request. Thumbs up for JET2 and their passengers.

Ordered mine last Wed or Thu, got txt from bank giving AWB the next day saying will be delivered within 3 weeks, came today much to my amazement! Thanks for the info, I logged in on 1st May and got an immediate text saying it would arrive within 15 days and it has just arrived. Amazing service can't quite believe it. ;)

It's been said lots of times but worth saying it again..... It is always much cheaper starting the journey in the UK, it's worth considering getting the cheapest single you can back to the UK and then start your next flights in the UK you can usually book your return flight up to 11 months ahead so you need to be organised and forward plan. You can always change the return flight if you need to for a cost of £75, this still works out much cheaper and is worth considering.

Food selection ok, problem is queuing for the BBQ seems take forever, good chocolate room and fridges full of mini desserts. A bit slow replenishing drinks and every time we have requested a table outside when booking a table inside has always been allocated. Kicked up quite a fuss in December and after being told no by numerous members of staff DH spoke to one and by magic an outside table became available. We only go there if there has been a cobone or suchlike offer would be reluctant to pay full price.

It's a bit rough and ready, already showing the cracks. Where the foot baths are all the tiles were broken and exposed pipe work. They had to fill and use the bog standard plastic home foot spas. Def a more down market establishment. I had the cobone mani/pedi there the girls are Vietnamese spoke very little English, but we're very friendly but I think had limited skills. For the price I paid I was happy enough, But will not be going back. It has made me a bit wary and in future will suss out places before buying deals.

I have a friend who lives in JVT and like it very much, but they both have cars and can get about quite easily. Mind you we have experienced problems trying to get taxi's to pick us up after parties there. Can be known to order one and then wait 3 hours for one to arrive or not as the case may be. Usually now we take our car and use "safe driver" to get us home. I did meet a lady two or three times at our friends house who didn't settle very well in JVT. Her DH had picked the villa before she arrived, because it was ideal for the DOG, but as she didn't drive she was very isolated and seemed very near to having a nervous breakdown. I tried to encourage her to meet up with me and others during the day, but she seemed to put obstacles up to every suggestion we came up with and didn't make her life more bearable.

Yes you need to book I'd do this as far in advance as possible as its very popular, if you want the views then you need to book for the skyview bar, the later in the afternoon the booking the better as you will then get the different views as the light changes, just phone them, they will send a confirmation email, which needs to be shown at the security gate to gain access. You need to give credit card details to confirm booking and it you don't attend they will take a payment anyway, unless you cancel in advance. This is to stop people booking to gain access, just have a look around and then leave. edited by dally on 15/01/2012

There are no flights now from Dublin to Cork - Ryanair stopped them awhile ago and I don't think there is any alternative. We are doing Aerlingus Cork - LHR BA LHR to DXB booked recently through expedia (also check skyscanner) as these came in cheaper than booking direct with BA.

Sorry to hear your sad news, we always have a return leg from DXB to uk which we could have paid to change (usually approx. £75) and then start new flights Uk to DXB which usually come in much cheaper. this happened to us 2 christmases ago when MIL died but emirates then reimbursed the change charge on receipt of copy of the death certificate.

How does anything work here? LOL. Def dry in Dubai, Saturday night, we were at the pub watching the foot and DH was having to drink tea! I went out for lunch with a friend on Sunday and was told by the waiter it was dry and we drank water, would have done anyway as I was driving. Someone told me it had been dry Friday night, Saturday during the day in Abu Dhabi, and I know it wasn't dry at all in Ras al Khaimah, so different emirates have different days and rules. Were you def still in Dubai in the desert, or did you crossed the invisible border, that could have made a difference?

Tried to get an appointment with Dr Barbara, after recommendations from EW, but she only takes on 1 new patient a day, therefore it was going to be 6 weeks before I could get an appointment, was put on a waiting list for any spaces if there was a cancellation, but not heard anything (been waiting 4 weeks now) think it might be worth getting the first available appointment even if I don't need to see a doctor, just to introduce myself and get on her books, just in case I need her in the future. Worth paying for the appointment just to get registered :\:

The OP is talking about The Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, not the one in Jumeirah. So no the big bus tour will not do and taxis are not that freely available there. Better to arrange to hire a taxi here and get him to stay and wait for you. There is organised tours through the major tour companies, but if you hire a driver for the day you can then tail make a tour of Abu Dhabi to cover any other sites you'd like to visit. Conducted mosque tours at 10 and 11 are well worth joining, no need to book in advance.

Park and shop had been advertising Turkey Crowns a few weeks back, may be worth looking into. But if you have to get a frozen turkey and try the quick defrost method, I'd consider cutting it up yourself into a crown and cook the legs separate. Cuts down on the cooking time considerably, but not so pretty if you thinking of carving the bird at th table :\:
