The mobilisation process can take about 6 months, that is from the time you are told OK we want you now to the time you get there, You may not be asked to mobilise straight away depending on your position requirement. Ask at the interview. If your position is required in the clinic you may be required sooner than if the position is for the hospital which is not yet open. Paywise you will have to give details and proof of what you are earning back home and it will be matched or a little bit better. But you have to take into consideration that it is tax free and accommodation is provided which is a major cost you will not have to worry about. Not sure where nyny345 gets her information from but I would totally ignore it, She is applying a director of operations to nursing staff which is completely wrong, even though you are a NP, do not expect business class travel.

I do not know anyone who works there but there have been many delays for the hospitals opening and many staff who were recruited a few years ago have left, so I would say you will find some unhappy people. I believe the clinic has opened now and there is a new wave of recruitment happening.Sorry cannot help more than that. Good luck

I think most people have given up and are looking/have found jobs else where, there is only so much you can put your life and your career on hold for. I also was told that I will hear back in a few weeks, but if it does not happen or the start date is in the distant future, I am sorry to say it is plan B for me. Just wondering how many of us are in this position.

Hi PJ11 At what stage were you asked for testimonial from the hosp you trained at? I also trained in a now closed hospital in the UK. but I have not been asked to provide this testimonial yet. What are you going to do to solve this problem? I have received my contract but am still gathering paperwork to apply for registration.

RRTNICU Since Sidra is not open, I doubt very much that you are going to get anybody posting on what it is like!

I know of someone moving in a few weeks. She has her ticket and date. Apparently they move people on Sunday, and work starts on Wed. This allows for a rest upon arrival and a short first workweek. Have known a few on here that have gone, but nothing from them since. I have also noticed that very active users of this site are never heard from again once they start work. I imagine that Sidra have a policy of "no social media". Maybe it is in the confidentiality forms that we all have to sign when we start a hospital job.

As far as I have been told, my married status contract means that once I get my resident permit in Qatar, I can sponsor my husband. If at any time, he gets work, then his company will become his sponsor. It would also be beneficial for a spouse to seek work and get hired before he arrives in Qatar since local hires tend to be paid less, even if they are expats. Yes, this is what I have been told too, but i think somewhere in the conversation was the fact that if the spouse has benefits with his job such as housing etc, that the Sidra employee will lose his/her married status. For me housing is the most imp and I do not want to loose this. Has anyone asked these questions? Any answers?

Ladies thank you so much! Agree this forum has been very very helpful, just trying to get a sense of what to expect moving forward and how best to weigh the pros and cons. Abby86 you've highlighted some key points outside of basic salary when considering. Had enough of the snow after last winter? I don't blame you! Congrats again on your leadership position. Any knowledge of how the anesthesia role will play out? Darang yes the "sponsorship" of a husband could certainly be an issue for me in long term stay/happiness thank you for highlighting. Do you know where I could get more information on this? I need more information about husband sponsorship myself. I asked at interview and was told that we can only sponsor then in selected sectors such as finance. The person who interviewed said that her husband was still looking for work after many months in Doha. If anybody has more info on this subject it would be greatly appreciated. I am also not very clear if married status will remain if our husbands find their own jobs and are sponsored by their own employer. It is all a very grey area and no real answers when I ask.

Could not agree with you more Abby86. I think it is very dangerous to compare pay. As far as I am aware everybody's contract states that their conditions are confidential, and as has been noted before, this forum is monitored by Sidra. It is well known that we will be paid according to what we earn at home and it will be tax free and all bills paid. So I may be working along side someone who is doing exactly the same job as myself and will be earning more or less than that person. It is best not to know! otherwise you may be very unhappy. Everybody should look at their personal situation and judge if they will be better off or not. Housing is the most expensive cost in Doha and since this is provided, your salary is just going to be spent on food, socializing/travelling and saving. Where else would you get that in the world except the middle east? I have applied for a similar position in Saudi and Sidra is paying double what I was offered in Saudi - so no complaints from me. And nowhere else in the middle east are nurses offered married contracts. The only disadvantage is that we cannot sponsor our husbands and they may find difficulty getting jobs in Doha.

I am afraid I totally agree with Ali 68. I put on 10 kgs in 2 years and I attended aerobic classes 3 times a week. The main entertainment is going out to dinner and you will do heaps of it, try avoid the Friday brunches as they are expensive and you will tend to overeat. Local food tends to be quite fatty, and there is a lot of hidden sugars in the food, especially the bread which accompanies most meals. The quality of fresh food and veg is not great. I loved living in Doha but my biggest hate (after driving) was cooking.

PJ11 I would get a second opinion about your tax situation, I am pretty sure your accountant is not right.. If your tax laws are similar to Oz than if you work and live overseas you will be considered non resident for tax purposes. The important thing is where your are "domiciled" which has a specific definition. The fact you have a house in NZ should not matter and the fact that your kids are adults means that they are independent and should not be considered for you tax purposes. Try and get an opinion from a company called SMATS they are based in Singapore but are specialists in expat tax matters.Of course I might be wrong as NZ is not Australia but we are usually quite similar. I doubt that Sidra would care whether you pay tax at home or not so your offer would not take this into consideration.

drc I cannot answer your question but I know that Muslim women prefer female obstetricians and I am sure HR has taken this into consideration and have employed a good no. of other female OG/Gyn specialist.

Ok, so it is now September. Time to plan and book Xmas holidays, but with the impeding move to Qatar I am a bit uncertain what to do. In one of the emails I received from HR it stated [i'>In most cases we’ll be able to notify you of an expected start date at least 3 months in advance.[/i'> My question is at what stage in the process are you all being notified of the start date? Does this come with the employment agreement? I have accepted the provisional offer and am waiting for the employment agreement. I am going to have to book my holiday soon, Since everybody talks about Sidra delays, I suppose Sidra will not mind if I am the one to delay......:)

Abbey what you are trying to do can be a bit tricky. The process and timeline cannot be compared to a 'normal' job offer. My agent told me that references are checked at the end of the process as most people would not want their current employer to be aware that they are intending to leave months ahead of time. So far I have just received a provisional offer, that has taken 5 months from interview and with the hospital opening date delayed due to construction problems, I am anticipating that their is no urgency to hire staff. I have decided to just carry on as normal until I have visa in hand.

I have also just received a provisional offer and am now thinking of sitting the 'general nurse scope' prometric exam. Can anyone who sat this exam share it's level of difficulty and if you needed or wished you did any study for it. I have not worked as a general nurse for quite a no. of years and not sure if i should be doing study for it or just wing it. Any tips much appreciated.
