@ sour EW really don't care what it's users think of their so-called "improvements" to this site. It's all about them, not the site's users. They said that they were taking note of the many complaints ... have they? No. I'm sure that they couldn't give a toss anyway but this is my last post and I won't be bothering even to look at the site again.

As a general rule, if you are taking prescribed medication with you anywhere in the world, you should carry just enough for the duration of your stay (assuming you aren't moving permanently), it should be in its original packaging and you should carry a copy of the prescription with you. This advice applies everywhere, not just Dubai (UAE).

Try a heavy guage enamel baking tray. I've had mine for nearly 15 years now and it stays flat as a pancake. I think I may have seen them in Lakeland. I also have a slightly smaller baking sheet which is non-stick which I also got in Lakeland (I think) and it also stays perfectly flat.

Anything indulgent ... Any roasted meat with all the trimmings (yorkshire pudding with beef, homemade bread sauce with chicken etc); beef stew with herbed dumplings; chicken fricasee; shepherds pie or cottage pie or even fish pie, all of them with a lovely crispy mashed potato topping; macaroni cheese with a really rich sauce made with oodles of strong cheddar and lots of lovely gooey gruyere; a big bowl of tiger prawns cooked with lots and lots of garlic butter and crusty bread to mop up all that butter ... the list is endless - and now I'm feeling ravenous!!

I'm sorry that I can't give a definitive answer to your question, but ... if I had purchased my car with the help of a bank loan and I had repaid that loan, I would most certainly want a letter from that bank confirming that said loan had been repaid in full. When we left Dubai and closed our bank account there we insisted on a letter from the bank confirming that our credit/debit cards had been returned and that no money was owed to them against any of the cards they had issued, that we had never had any loans with them and that our account had been closed with a zero balance. It can do no harm to have as much written evidence as possible that loans have been repaid, accounts closed with zero balances etc, for your future protection against false claims if nothing else.

Mind if I ask what brand you got, where & how much? I'm in the market, but want to spend more in the 2000-4000 range. And I really want a book ledge, does no one read while jogging anymore?? I don't read while exercising but very much enjoy listening to music. We also have an old laptop in the study/4th bedroom on the desk in front of the trainer and my DH downloads various TV programmes for me - things I like and he doesn't ? - and that keeps me happy while I'm plodding along.

An elliptical trainer is very low impact on your joints unlike a treadmill. It also has the benefit of the push/pull bars which hekp to tone the arms, as well as the ability to be used in reverse which exercises the muscles differently. It is also a somewhat smaller piece of equipment - I keep ours in a corner of our study/4th bedroom. As an aside, ours came in particularly useful for getting back mobility and muscle repair after I broke my hip earlier this year. I was able to exercise gently within 10 weeks of the operation to repair the broken bone and the almost zero impact was a huge factor in this. Ours is now just over two years old. We bought it in Carrefour (here in Muscat) for just under the equivalent of aed1,000 which included delivery and assembly, and a one year warranty. It's still going strong and only needs the occasional squirt of light oil. I would estimate that I've averaged somewhere in the region of 50km / week so I don't think it owes me anything.

Try the Swiss Travel Pass: http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/en/passes/swiss-travel-pass.html It's a fantastic way to travel through Switzerland. We did it some years ago travelling Zurich, Engelberg (Mount Titlis), Wengen, Interlaken, Lausanne and Geneva with lots of side trips from each place and we loved it.

25,000dhs for treating a sprained ankle - wow! When I broke my hip last April the total cost of my treatment at Rashid Hospital was only 8,500dhs which included xrays, scans, medication, the operation to repair my femur and four nights stay in hospital.

Trump himself may have said stuff for political consumption, but what scares me are many of his supporters. Already there are reports of people harassed by Trump supporters .... And Clintonistas all throwing their toys out of their prams (demonstrating and burning effigies of Trump) because things didn't go the way they wanted. Be interesting to see how many of those so-called celebs who threatened to leave USA if Trump won actually follow through - just like those in the UK who threatened to leave if UK voted to leave EU ... they're all still in the UK as far as I can see.

Early evening drinks and snacks at The Observatory (Marriott Harbour at the marina) to watch those crazy people who seem to want to throw themselves out of perfectly safe aircraft with nothing but a bit of silk to stop them crashing to the ground/sea, and to enjoy the sunset and watch the lights come on on the Palm and around the area. A picnic out at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club watching a game of polo - smoked salmon, champagne/prosecco and blinis with (cheat's) caviar - and all those so skilful horsemen (Jilly Cooper eat your heart out!) ... what's not to like ? Ride the Metro from one end to the other for a different view of the City - you could stop off at the Financial Centre station, cross the road and walk to Four Points by Sheraton and have "refreshments" at their Sky Bar with fantastic views out to the Gulf and all points inland, too

When our visas were cancelled a couple of years' ago we had to leave the country by air - leaving the country by road at Hatta and then coming back in on a tourist visa wasn't an option. However we didn't have to go back to the UK, we simply got a really cheap return air flight to Muscat and returned to Dubai on the same aircraft, and as we stayed airside in Muscat there was no need to get a visa there. I'm sorry but I can't remember how many days we were able to stay in Dubai before having to leave once our visas had been cancelled. The rules keep changing thouh so hopefully someone else will be along soon to give you more uptodate information. I would have thought that your son's ex-employers should have told him what the form is.

We've been with Aetna (Goodhealth as they used to be) since 2006 and have been, generally, very happy with them. We have claimed for treatment (7 weeks in-patient including nearly 3 weeks in ICU, countless x-rays and CT scans, bone marrow biopsies, chemotherapy and 2 years of follow up maintenance therapy) for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and also for surgery and 4 nights in Rashid Hospital when I fell and broke the neck of my left femur in April while in Dubai for a short holiday (to celebrate my 60th ... won't forget that one in a hurry!) We have "major medical" cover - we pay the first $1,000 of any claim - which brings the premium down and we have worldwide cover excluding USA which also reduces the premium. However we have to pay and then claim which may be a drawback for some. Just to add that we are both over 60 - just! - but don't feel that our premiums are excessive. We took out our policy when we lived in Dubai and have carried on now that we are in Muscat which is where I had all the treatment for the Lymphoma. Hope this helps

Re visa runs: Be careful; if you have a Schengen country passport you are only able to stay in-country for 90 days out of any 180 day period as, effectively, you are given a 90 Day multiple entry visa on arrival. The UK and other countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand who are eligible for visa on arrival can still do visa runs but they aren't as straightforward as they used to be. As others have said, you can only drive a rental car on your home country driving licence (assuming that your home country is one of those where you can 'swap' your licence for a UAE licence). Temporary UAE driving licences no longer exist. Also most travel insurance policies don't cover people who are resident in another country, they only cover you when you are travelling to another country in which you aren't resident.

That's good news. Just thought I'd mention it ... not all people are aware that permission is required. Sorry I can't be any help. Have you thought of driving around the Ranches and asking at any homes which you can see have had alterations/additions? When we lived there we had large canopies put up in the back garden and several people knocked at the door asking for the company's details which we were happy to pass on.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/visa-residence-dubai.php Have a look under Expiry and Cancellation of Residence Visa. This would appear to indicate that if you remain outside of the UAE for more than six months your residence visa becomes invalid - not cancelled. You should therefore get the visa properly cancelled before trying to re-enter the country Hope this helps - although I suspect it's not really what you wished to hear :(

I would be willing to hazard a guess that you heard about the "double" payment from a maid or similar. No, they get their return air ticket and payment for their month's holiday. Do you know anybody else who gets paid twice for a month's work/holiday? I somehow doubt it.

My late in-laws would no more have expected to come on holiday with us than we would have expected to go on holiday with them. We all got on very, very well but we also appreciated that we all had different views on various things and none of us would have wished to upset the apple cart. As for my parents - NO, NO, NO? . I can't imagine anything more guaranteed to end up with one of us (mother or daughter, more likely daughter!) being charged with manslaughter. Oh heavens, the very thought makes me cringe.

A friend in Dubai has recently had a memo from his HR department. Basically it says that holders of Schengen country passports get a multiple entry visa entitling them to spend a total of 90 days in any180 day period in-country. If the passport holder spends 90 days straight in-country they must leave and may not return for 90 days. Holders of UK (not part of Schengen agreement), USA and other countries passports who are able to get visa on arrival continue to get 30 day tourist visa on arrival which can be extended in-country by 30 days once only. The memo made no mention of 'visa run' regulations.
