It is very easy. Just go to any etisalat/du, on the last days of your stay, give them the SIM card, fill the paper about cancellation of service, and they will pay back all the credit remaining on your account, if any by that time! No worries, you will get the money back! edited by dentro on 06/05/2015

I do not agree with frankerber, it is not that easy to get arrested in dubai. Especially not for poppy seeds you ate. if you bring prescription pills just enough for a shorter stay (3-4 weeks max), I do not think that anyone would notice or question you. I always have strong sleeping pills with me,that you cannot get here, no one ever looked at it. Call life pharmacy, they have 24 hours home delivery, and try to order your medications pretending you live here, say you live in downtown. You will get a yes/ no answer on availability then. Call +971 4 344 11 22. Most medicine is available without having any prescription, except some sleeping pills and very strong pain killers. For health insurance covering existing conditions, it depends on what policy the company subscribed for and how big the company is. For 100+ companies, they usually do "medical history disregard" and they cover your chronic conditions with a few exceptions (cancer, etc). Best if you write to the hr of your new employer, name your medical condition and list the medication, so they can check direct with the insurance representative.

Executive towers is bad quality, in materials and finishes, ac and electrical works, layouts and windows, then facility management. Parking is a nightmare - the spaces are dedicated to apartments but security cannot control cars who park elsewhere, hence chaotic. In general, security does not do anything, does not even greet you back. Utterly useless. Design is weird, some towers do not have proper entrance, only through the garage that smells from garbage. Difficult to get any deliveries or visitors. Damac buildings are infamous of bad quality finishes and cheapest construction. Most completed buildings in business bay are office buildings though.

I would visit Dubai Municipality Rent Committee and get my clarification from Legally. It is just adjacent to RERA office. I would not waste my time with this. Life is simpler than constant legal advice. Just call the landlord. Tell them you have good news, want to renew, with same conditions.

Cassm12.... Every company in dubai are licensed by ministry of economy... Even the non-finance ones.... Otherwise, on this forum posters are often positive about Holborn. I guess some of you work there! I have no better experience with them than with pic, deverre and the rest of the financial salesman army. Holborn cold calls me the same frustrating way, they send me emails with untrue allegations of what the horrid UAE government will do with my children if my husband dies, unless I immediately pay them to write my will, etc. As driftwood says... Ask yourself why you need a policy, why you need a pension. Think of other investments, like property, business, gold, art. Check directly with your banks, what portfolios they offer. edited by dentro on 27/04/2015

Fatex: you meant "home improvement" and handymen. But if you need tools and materials for diy, ace hardware or dragon mart are the best places. You can get explanations too from the shop assistants, or just watch YouTube videos. I did lots of painting, built-in shelves, changing of chandeliers, tiling, change of locks etc myself, not a big deal really. Ask a more experienced female friend to help, it is a fun afternoon. If you want to... Otherwise get the handymen from gulf news classifieds, or one of the overpriced companies like Jim will fix it or hitches and glitches.

Schools may not entirely be your decision, as some will have no availability. I would not worry much about housing now. First sort out school. After that, we you arrive, you will have time to find a place to live that has good road connections to your husband's work and to school. You may also want to consider the location of your workplace, and sort that out before finalizing the house.

Or you can ask the maintenance company who you are usually dealing with if they can bring a replacement piece. (Mplus, hitches and glitches, Jim will fix it, Etc). Probably will be with a markup, but at least no worry for you.

All the companies I worked with had 45 days paid as per law, and basically unlimited unpaid... What I mean that no one was turned away when they wanted to stay on unpaid leave, even up to a year. My personal opinion from the hr perspective is however that staying a full year out of their profession with a baby may not be beneficial for the person, so I would not encourage more than half a year.

I tried four times to get a package from ASOS delivered to my apartment but the postal service is so rubbish here they just kept sending it back to ASOS without even trying to deliver to me. They only like delivering to PO Boxes so if u have a work PO box or someone you know does I suggest you use that, I ended up using my husbands work Po box and finally got it after waiting two mnthsof back and forward communication. Postal service is not "rubbish" here, but "different" or if you like, "non-existent". There is no normal post home delivery in the UAE. They only deliver to mail boxes, if you have one. When someone gets it delivered to "husband's work", it arrives to his desk because the company has a driver or secretary who goes to the post office once a week and collects the letters from the mailbox. If you want to receive it at your door at home, you have two options. Pay for courier delivery when you order, or use aramex shop & ship and receive it at your UK virtual mailbox, from where aramex will home deliver. There is nothing wrong with the postal service here, they just simply do not have the infrastructure fore home delivery, and I am not surprised that they do not bother developing it any more, when people send emails and not letters.

No, the wife is not responsible and can leave the country - but, if he dies, the wife would not get the full money, the bank has the right to deduct whatever is owed to pay off the debt.

No money back, and no, cannot transfer. You need to cancel it and she needs to exit the country. She may come back on her new visa ( by the new company - or a tourist visa from a travel agency, until she finds a job).

Pink pepper in dubai mall is good, but honestly I would not spend too much on it. Dress nicely, stand half a meter in front of the white wall, ask your friend to take pictures with an iPhone and play with the settings to make it b&w. By the way, I suggest using color photo.

I agree with asking the pharmacist and if it is very serious just call an ambulance. I am curious, is this hotline in your home country for citizens only? There are citizens-only hospitals in the UAE, and there may be a hotline too, but that would not help you much as you are not a citizen?

there are credit cards with an annual fee and with good benefits, like triple skywards points, good discounts at restaurants, etc- and cards that are free but minimal or no benefits. Your choice. None of them has any transaction fee on shopping.

I also prefer the non-energy saver ones, they last just as long and they have a nicer warmer color tone light. I buy them in bulk and store as they are getting phased out. I plan to build up a pile that will be enough for the next 20 something years :)

I am an old poster, with 8-10 years and never a ban. Time to time I have a question that I need help with. I always come here full of hope. My posts rarely have more than 2-3 responses, many times zero. I do not think that my questions are particularly difficult. My theory is maybe I am ignored because I never went to a single coffee meet ups and no one knows me in person - I work during the day, and I have my own friends anyways. I do not really understand why I keep coming back. Seeing all those threads with so many useful responses always makes me try again and again. Weird. When I respond others, sometimes I get thumbed down although I have not said anything outrageous. That feels sad and discouraging. Hence I respond posts less often. edited by dentro on 12/04/2015 I've only been to one coffee morning but none of the ladies there knew anything about the forum and even the host seemed vague then eventually admitting - oh yes I used to go on there sometimes but not anymore... They are run independently from the forum as a business so it's unlikely you would know any of the women there...Although I have been told of the EW thing where many forum members won't admit to it when they meet people !! lol Well, then I have no idea why my posts are so predictably unpopular, regardless the topic. Lol. :D I had this feeling that the core (or the core at one point) must knew each other as they kept referring to events and facts that only they seem to know and some posts were even incomprehensible because of these references. Maybe that was just a one off period of EW.

You have to ask the company, it can be such a wide range. Even within the company, lower waged people could be given completely different accommodation than senior management.

2 months is very short, it will take more time. I would not waste time on admin jobs. You will not be hired, because you have specific experience and the interviewer would assume you are just accepting the admin job temporary until finding better, they would want someone more committed. Also, you have no chance to get ceo's pa type jobs as you have no certificates in computer skills or pa type background (I assume). Furthermore, if you are afraid of long working hours in hospitality: surprise, high level pa jobs are 24/7. Sending cvs is not efficient because those people receive hundreds of similar cvs. It takes time. Good luck

Thanks, so there is hope! She does not have a job yet so cannot ask PRO, but I was worried as all single moms I know here had to get NOC from father or death certificate for the visa. - she cannot get any of these. Was thinking to ask around if anyone knows someone who managed to arrange it, before she wastes time with finding a job just to find visa sponsorship obstacles.

You buy the form at any "typing" place, just drive around karama. Used to be 1 aed each, maybe more now. You all fill. You keep one, tenant keeps one. Ejari registration is by tenant, but even if you do it, easy procedure: go to a post office or typing place, or even do it online. Provide tenancy contract, passport and visa copies of you and tenant, dewa bill or dewa deposit slip. Get it in 5 minutes. Good luck.

Have to say this is a very good benefits package. Not every company pays for schooling and it is very nice of them to offer it for 3 kids, rather than pick someone else who has less kids. You will not need to spend too much on top of this on living expenses, and all salary could go to groceries, entertainments and savings. The package itself already adds up to 28-30k a month. I would accept it. It is very easy to spend any amount of money in Dubai, there could be crazy overpriced events, brunches, shopping, luxury cars, and in that case no money is sufficient. You may also opt for living reasonably and save more.

I buy usa iTunes gift cards online ( but I think virgin sells them too). Then use my iTunes account with those set to the usa store. I buy/ rent movies on my iPad, play them from the iPad and project it to the appletv. The movies I buy also show up on my appletv, so I can watch them without my iPad too. I have never tried buying direct from appletv, but since it is using the same account, and that account is loaded from the giftcard, I assume I would be able to buy.

It comes to 50 aed/ month, and I ordered it. Just saying, if anyone else is interested. It may be totally wasted though, as I said, I read ladies here saying the samples are often small and from no name brands.

I wish my grandma in law was able to visit. I would spend every minute with her. No work is more important, she may not be with you very long. People at her age often overestimate their capabilities, as in their memories they used to be good at things - but reality differs. These could be simple things, like remembering the timing of taking pills. I would be very very concerned leaving a 92 year old alone in a hotel, especially if - as you say- she may not be able to bath herself. Hiring a professional nurse is a good option. Furthermore, airlines and hotels may have policies and restrictions on old people similar to underage people, like children traveling without supervision below certain age.

I used to bring hand censored western magazines and cd covers, where the girls got "dressed up" till their neck by black (or even blue and red!) permanent marker pen. I cannot find them recently, everything is just photoshopped now before printing, so all the Hollywood people gets their short sleeved turtleneck underwear and full length leggings on, below their minidress. Those you can find here, too. I always wanted to see that big room of MAN whose job is to save the morals by coloring the magazines with black marker.
