Have you tried the pharmacies at City and American Hospital... I was under the impression these would only give you the drugs if prescribed by the same hospital (American / city).

The 300 aed government health card that Babylons mentioned is mandatory and the company must pay for it. It is issued during the blood test, in al Baraha hospital for example. No other medical insurance, such as private medical insurance is demanded by the law. It is not in labor law. edited by dentro on 10/02/2013

You are buying a dress that was worn once... Sometimes stuff you buy at sales were tried on soo many times it may be worse... That dress is basically new. And you would also only wear it once only. You have tried it on and know that the size and cut fits. It is third the price. What are you waiting for, girlllll?? Buy it NOW!!! Why it is a question?

No legal obligation whatsoever. However it is a nice gesture to allow it, limit to max two evenings a week, when you are at home anyways. Also a good trick is to ask the landlord not to give your number to the agents. That way the agent needs to call the landlord, who will call you... Too much hassle will stop them changing the appointment all the times. If the agent can easily reach you, every viewing will be postponed and rearranged three times...

I totally agree: people who sneak in their babies are inconsiderate. Not only with others, who are forced to listen to their kid's crying but even with the kid. There is a reason why the show is advertised for 5 and beyond....

Thank you. We need proper sports tops, like Nike dry-fit or similar, not simple t-shirts. But buying the shirts separately and getting a standard gift company to print them is a very good idea, I will proceed with that.

Aaah, now it all makes sense. The manager phoned me today, she was lovely and very apologetic; apparently the lady who paid before me shared my name and her full head of colour was put on to my bill. Why my hairdresser didn't work this out when I questioned her I have no idea and I suppose the girl on the till was none the wiser. Anyway my refund is waiting for me at the salon and the manager's thrown in a free manicure and pedicure, which is great. Thanks for everyone's advice! What an unusual coincidence!!! Two guests right after each other with the exact same name... Ehhhh, sure! Anyways, I am glad you got the money back.

Heritage village, dubai museum, cultural understanding foundation shelter in bastakiya, al ain fort museum ( the one with Henry thesinger exhibition), Abu Dhabi museum on sadiyat island, ... I am sure they could all be interested in this. You may actually auction the collection as well, if you have time for it, depending on the types of photos... If you need any help, I am happy to assist ( have no connection to these places, but love historic UAE photos). And also, would really love to have copies, anyways! Online booking is probably the best, i do not think any airline would have deals for repeat journey. i have found flydubai to have the best departure timings and also they are cheaper than emirates or qatar air, which could prove to be serious savings if he flies that often. It is a relatively short flight and flydubai is perferctly ok for that.

You can decide if it was full head color or toner. Full head color goes on while you are sitting in the chair, with a brush, with no foils, onto all your hair. Toner goes on after washing out the highlights, at the sink, before final rinse. I hate toner as it softens out the highlights, but hairdressers love it as they can do a lousier quicker job not caring about the roots too much, and later fade out the highlights a bit so it is not that visible. It is a pity that you start complaining now and not questioned them better on spot. What salon was it?

I have seen a number of CDS shows before and there is a reason for the age restriction... Children below 5 hardly enjoy it. Just not for them! They just make noises that can be disturbing to other people. To be honest, unless your kid is more developed than his age average, he may not like it.

My salon ink bills neared 1000 as well and I did not even feel happy with the hair they did. Went there 3-4 times. It was ok, but not worth the price. Now I am back to the search for a good hairdresser! In the meantime I am just getting cut and highlights from random no name bur dubai or Jumeirah places, most of them not spectacular but I swear as good as salon ink, and cost a fraction. Last time I paid 350 total. edited by dentro on 08/02/2013

I never had any problems with rsa, when bought online, the papers were emailed immediately. Maybe your husband had mistyped his email address? They may be right, imagine if you buy a 7 day insurance starting from tomorrow, then try to cancel it after 10 days, basically after using it... The 14 days cannot be the case there.... Not sure how long your policy duration was, but as it started from the day when he purchased, probably you cannot claim anything. The travel insurances are very cheap, so I would probably let it, no worth to fight for the money. i wouldnt agree that travel insurance is cheap here, its certainly more expensive than the uk, as there is not much competion if you go with the main firms here to be on the safe side. I was saying it is cheap compared to the hassle of getting the money back. A week is around 100 dirhams? I got a 30 day rsa for 270 dirhams.

Yes, you could get into trouble as this is stealing. The fact that someone is breaking the law does not justify that you should also break it. I would try to email the landlord offering that you accept the appliances in lieu of your deposit / offer that you can buy the appliances for the same amount he ows you. If he responds, you are the rightful owners of the appliances. If not, that at least you have tried, but do not take it...

Could not agree more with amyaus82 on being treated as a child if you behave like one. That could be the key to your story. Age is not everything. Additionally, it may help reminding your parents that you have chances for better job/ higher pay if you show more openness to a multicultural environment and less adherence to traditions that are foreign to the country, the employer, the colleagues. However I am afraid that if you are 21 only you have not completed higher level education, meaning you may not have high chances to a job that could provide your own living. Maybe you wanna focus on getting qualified first, and postpone your dreams by a year or two.

Not sure what the OP is expecting here. You say you " do not need guidance"...... Do you wanna hear "listen to your parents, wear shalwar kamez and put stinky oil to your hair"? Or do you wanna hear "follow westerner mass culture, nothing else can be better"? Teenager issues ( sorry, early 20 issues) like this always existed, even before the birth of Internet and EW, and we have all solved our own issues and had our own battles with our parents.

Sorry if this sounds disappointing but your case is lost and I would not put any effort into it. You should not have left dubai, and you should not have signed your visa cancellation paper ( which says that you have received all remuneration) without having so. Now that you are out of the country there is little to do. You also have to be here to give a power of attorney, as it needs to be done with a notary of public here, and in Arabic. You were not clear why the company demands money from you. In certain cases, they have the right to do so, like salary advance, paid accommodation, loans, etc Also I do not know if you actually worked in india full time for this company, or were just waiting for the visa to come through. If just waiting, they have a reason not to pay. Your probation period by law is 6 months, and the official start date is in your labour contract. it cannot be before you got a visa or entered dubai. it is your first dubai working day. within this period both you or the company can terminate the contract without notice period. So you will not get notice period salary paid, if you leave within 6 months. If somehow you still manage to go to court, again, the period considered will be the official labor contract start date ( your first dubai work day) and your last work day. The salary considered will be whatever is in the official labor contract ( the half Arabic one).

Do not buy anything new until the old one breaks totally. This goes to phones, cars, laptops, television, shoes, handbags, etc. We tend to buy every new gadget but why? Drink tap water. ( some will freak out but tap water is perfectly drinkable if you cool it down). Ok, at least drink and order local water at restaurants, even if they want to bring Evian / aqua panna. Masafi is quite good and cheaper. Definitely use tap water for cooking. Focus on large ticket savings rather than small ones. Not using a water heater will save you maybe 20 dirhams a month. Not buying the iPhone 5 but using your old iPhone 4 will save you 2500. Do not smoke, do not drink (often). Find a hairstyle that does not need frequent maintenance and simple enough to get it done by a cheaper bur dubai salon. Hairdressers here cost a freakin fortune. Do not buy designer wear. Many will argue this, but you can look very stylish in non-branded clothing, if picked with attention. Avoid friends who judge on appearance and price and spending. Actually, avoid richer friends. Hang out with friends who earn less. It will automatically force your entertainment budget down, but you will still have very good time. Avoid credit cards. Always pay off all debts at the end of the month. Do the small maintenance jobs yourself. Watch YouTube how to videos. Putting up pictures, cleaning the ac filter, painting a wall are very easy tasks and handyman companies here can charge a lot. edited by dentro on 22/01/2013 edited by dentro on 23/01/2013

So funny and soo typical dubai!! So ... I was in MOE yesterday and stopped off at Cafe Supreme to have a light lunch: Me: I'd like to have the Asian chicken salad please and to drink - a mango-pomegranate juice. Waitress: No madaaam. We cannot mix pomegranate juice. Me: Why not? Waitress: Not pomegranate juice. Me: But in your menu, it says I can make up any cocktail I like. Waitress: Oh! You want a mango-pomegranate COCKTAIL! Me: Yes - (just making sure I'm not going mad) but what's in a mango-pomegranate COCKTAIL? Waitress: It's mango and pomegranate juice madaaaam. Waitress: Would you like to eat anything? Me: I already asked for the Asian chicken salad ... sigh. LOL - love it!!!!!!!

To be fair to him, these guys with half a bucket of water and a sponge are really not equipped to clean dirty cars, and this is for your own good: they would just scratch the car polish with sand / mud particles if such cleaning is done. I suggest you take the car to a petrol station, where the automatic wash uses sufficient amount of water for dirtier cars. If it is really muddy, or after off-roading, the manual wash is even better. The guys at spinneys with the moist sponge can only clean your car if it is regularly cleaned, and only needs a wipe. Went to Spinneys after work to food shop the other afternoon. Thought I'd get the jeep washed while shopping so called over to a car clearer in the car park after parking. Me: Excuse me can you wash my jeep please? (Looking in bag for the money). Car Cleaner Man walks over to my jeep and looks at it......walks round it and says 'No'. Me: But it needs washing so can you wash it please. Man: No. Me: (Puzzled) But why not? Man: Dirty, can't wash. Me: But that's why I need it washed. Man: No, can't wash..... Dirty. Me: So you only wash clean cars? Man: Yes, company policy........then walks away! Shopped in frustration with a wonky wheeled trolley, was ignored when asking for things to be priced, over charged when at the till for discounted items and went home in my 'dirty' jeep and power hosed my it down myself and washed all my frustrations away of Spinneys.

The concept is simple: you need maximum amount of cash in the shortest time, so you can pay off the debt as soon as possible. The more you wait, the more you have to pay. Credit card debts are not hopeless ( property mortgage can be hopeless). First, pay it off by a personal loan, that has lower interest rate. Never use your credit card again. Then look for extra income: second job, temporary jobs, anything that pays any money, whatever small money. Any extra work. Sell whatever you can. And do not buy anything. Nothing, but cheap food. Lots of sacrifices but only for short term, a few months and it is over. Pay every month as much towards your debt as possible, ask about every dirham you spend on food, transportation, etc, if it is really necessary or is there a cheaper way. Again, it is not forever. Btw, after a few months of low budget life, when you get hold of your full salary with no repayment, it will feel luxorious!

We went Thurs. It was a very interesting experience. Very easy to find..not a lot of spectators. The track is 8km long and it takes the camels about 12 mins. As soon as one race finishes, the next goes off. All races run with the robot jockeys but one race had a camel with an adult rider on it's back. They were last by about a km and I'm not sure why he was riding. Maybe that was an old camel who wanted to race again for his birthday :) :)

I do think the tripadvisor rating is fair, especially from a tourist point of view dubai taxi service is fantastic, they are always metered and do not intentionally go for long unnecessary loops. Not like at many other cities, where airport taxis are rotten sharks, telling you that the meter does not work, or offering you an "off the meter" deal that will cost 3x, or driving you around for 30 mins extra exploiting that you do not know the city...these very rarely if ever happen in dubai. Also, most of the time you get back items that you left in taxis, even valuable ones, which is very very rare in other cities. I also agree, that from a tourist perspective they are great. My mother couldn't help but rave, and she has used taxis daily in Australia for 20 years. The day she arrived home it was bucketing rain, the taxi took her home, pulled up out front her house, and sat there, couldn't be bothered to help her with her heavy luggage. Funnily enough, this man was Indian and had said he wanted to come here to work but that it was hard to get a taxi job here! Was this in Australia or dubai? I went to the airport just that morning when we had rain in dubai, and the driver asked me to stay in the cab until he offloads my luggage and carries it underneath the canopy, so I can just run there without getting too wet! I thought it was really nice of him. I guess it also depends on which driver you get.

I also think that the interest in your old ring is more of a marketing strategy. To make you buy there as well as to comfort you by praising your existing ring, hence taste.
