I'm curious how one becomes legal? On a residence visa, not tourist. edited by dogcatcher on 23/03/2013 I just wrote down the steps.. .??...if you want to run this as a serious business, like a doggie daycare. If it is just for friends, it is not a business. Everyone is asked to look after cats/ water plants/ babysit infants once in a while, it is not a business...

It is illegal and Hamar you obviously do not have the appropriate background knowledge to make your comment. Well, let's say there was "dog sitting " in the ded activities list, or something similar. Getting the business license costs somewhere around 20-30,000 aed, local sponsor fee an other 15-25. plus she needs to rent a commercial space, as no business can run from home here. I am pretty sure it has to be a decent space so lets say 100,000 a year? I am sure there will be additional municipality fees. Are you suggesting this is feasible and necessary, considering OP just wanted to take care of some friends dogs for a few months only?

I also had both. Never owned a dishwasher, but different ones came with different flats I rented. While never had any major problem with any of my dishwashers, I loved the fisher and Paykel drawers so much better than any others. Also I felt it less stinky, others have a stronger typical smell. So if it is my choice, I would buy the f&p. however, consider that landlords may change the rent or your work may move somewhere else in the city, and then you will need to move, and the new flat may come with a dishwasher ( most places in dubai do), in which case you will regret that you bought an expensive one.

Drive to al ain, go up to jebel Hafeet, stop at the park at the foot of the hill, then drive up, enjoy the view, stay at the hotel there ( Marriott I believe), enjoy the pool and the view. Following day drive to al ain, take a walk in the oasis with amazing old palm trees, visit a few forts, one of them has Henry thesinger (spelling...) photos exhibited, he was a traveller in the region before the country formed, quite interesting. Visit the camel market behind al bawadi mall. Have some shawarma somewhere on the street in the city, visit al ain zoo, if the kids want, drive back to dubai. Alternatively, stay an other night ( Hilton al ain maybe) and go to the waterpark, do white water rafting. Go for a night to did a/ Fujairah, book a boat trip. Or same in kasab / musandam. Watch dolphins, bit of snorkeling. Go for a night or two to rak, however that is beach only.

The agency will likely to do anything they can to discourage her and you. As she is breaking the contract midway, she is not eligible to get end of service payments, they may even keep back her last salaries to " cover expenses" , however that is not fully legal. They can ban her visa for a year. It is also not fair from your side to entice her to this. If you wanted a full time maid get a new one brought to you by the agency.

Salon ink is over-praised here, but they are really not special and are very expensive for what it is. They are doing an ok job, compared with the horror you get in general in average salons, but for this price, for god's sake, I rather keep trying. They are also very inflexible with appointments, and parking is difficult on weekends. Unfortunately I cannot really recommend anyone. I was probably most happy with a British lady, hazel, who comes to your home, she is very skilled and has reasonable prices, and she works on weekends. However, when she leaves the flat is a mess, hair everywhere, it takes a week to clean up. I could not handle that part. Maybe better for those who have a garden...

You really do not need good quality. It never rains, does not need to withstand heavy wind. Buy a cheap one in Carrefour like everyone else. 100 aed. The 3 people one fits 2 comfortably. Buy an inflatable mattress with car adaptor electric pump. Buy a folding chair. Buy a cheap sleeping bag, also Carrefour, 40 aed. You are good to go. If you still want expensive ones, try adventure hq in Times Square or any large sun and sands or go sport shop. Enjoy.

Dubai airport does not take away my 500ml water bottles, ever. Similar to the other GCC airports. I am not familiar with Amman airport, but I would say, as far as you avoid Europe and the usa, you will not be hassled on liquids. If you wanna make sure, call the airport and ask.

You have to try them, our body is all different and everyone reacts differently. Hypo helped me a lot, I have been doing 12 sessions within a month every year at aviation club, I did 24 last year because the results were great and I did not want to stop. LPG helped me when I did first time, however I needed 30 something sessions for visible result, but there is no change at all since. I tried 30 session again just recently, not a bit of change.

Seriously? The husband who is in the bank business and would know how employment procedure works is just sitting at home and expects his wife's friend to find a job for him? He should be on the Internet, sending his cvs himself!! You going to any branches or headquarters, is completely useless. even if you manage to hand it directly to the hr manager, think from their perspective, would you hire someone, whose cv was dropped by a friend of the wife? That cv will just end up in the first trash bin! Your friend will probably be disappointed / hurt if you tell her you would not waste your time with this action, so maybe best if you say you tried a few places but they all told you they only take online applications.

Companies wanting to see you face to face or ok with video interview --- you are targeting an internal position with a multinational company, you will be interviewed with international hr team. They will be ok with video interview. You do not need to interview with "local clients" who indeed prefer to see you face to face. In any case, the first interview can be video, and then you can offer that you come to dubai on your own cost so you can see the place and meet them before further decision. They will be happy! At my previous company we actually paid for tickets if we wanted to see someone. These days companies think twice as tighter on cash. Good package --- you will get better package if you are an overseas hire and not a local one. If you are here in the country they do not need to pay you for your expatriation and repatriation ( ticket, shipping, first 3-4 weeks hotel) and they may not pay for annual flight tickets home either. Dubai style cv --- include a picture!!! ( Most important). Include date and place of birth. Include the name/ location of your schools not just the degree. Include marital status. Include citizenship. Emphasize your international experience. How nationality helps --- this depends on the job. It may or may not help to be a westerner, depending if they want a westerner for that position or not. It is actually like that everywhere, but here they can mention such preferences much more openly than in some other countries. Anyways, make it clear in the cv. Usually jobs targeting westerners pay better than jobs targeting south Asians etc. the logic is that you have to earn more than in your home country to make it personally worth for you to come here. Registering with agencies --- try to send your cv direct to companies where you may want to work, even if they do not advertise. Try hr network groups on LinkedIn, or professional organizations, etc. as companies are tight on cash, they prefer direct candidates over agency candidates. And if the agency have you registered, they may argue with the company /claim charges if the company hired you otherwise. Good luck

I really cannot get bothered about what they think of me. They find it unusual that I am big/small , single/ married, etc. and what? They ask you, you can respond briefly and that is it. I would never comment on someone' s body that way, but we are not educated the same way, and that is why she is a nail technician for 1500 dirhams, while I am not. They live a miserable life compared to our standards, working 6 days 10 hours with cleaning foot and hand nails, kept in rooms with 10 others overnight, eating rice. If the only excitement of their life is to comment on my large boobs or yellow nails, let it be.

There is absolutely no difference for the job or for your travel and stay wether you are single or married, or man or female. I am not sure why you emphasize that in your title. As others said, the two months may be tight and the expenses are high here. It helps a bit if you are here and available for the interviews, but the type of large companies you are aiming will be ok with video interviews or interview by their local branch office at your country. I would only travel here if you have a friend here with whom you can stay for free at least for a few weeks. Emirates airlines can arrange you a 3 months visa. Alternatively, once here, after the month is up, you can ask a friend / hire a car to drive to Oman to cross the border and come back on a new 30 day visa immediately. The border is about 2,5 hours drive. good luck.

We just make it up to the next round number / leave the coins. For example, would pay 60 on a 57 bill or 55 on a 51 bill. Above 200, we would give a bit more, proportionally. This applies to taxi, restaurant, home delivery. At regular places, like nail spa, car wash and for maid I would sometimes give 10-20-30 but not always, so it does not get expected. I do not tip hairdressers because they are overpriced anyways ( plus most of the time the experience is so bad I am struggling to leave without showing tears...lol)

Is anyone able to tell me if a 25% salary cut is legal with 6 days notice? Many thanks in advance. It is legal. Basically the company ( in legal terms) is telling you they cannot employ you on the current contract any more and offering you a new contract on reduced salary, but with rolled over gratuity etc. your choices are to accept it with their new terms, or not to accept it. If you do not, your employment terminates with the original salary and original conditions (1 month notice period, gratuity, etc). The gratuity is calculated without the reduction factor that is applied when you resign. It is calculated as termination from their side, similar to making someone redundant. The 6 days notice is not very nice of them indeed, 1 month would be fair, and you may negotiate that, but there is no regulation for the notice. Try to think of a reverse case, if they increase your salary with 6 days notice, would you complain that it is too short? It is the same type of contract modification as a salary increase.

100 aed is a parking fine. It may not have happened at 6:30 am, that could be just the time when they uploaded the records to the system. I would not make a fuss for 100 aed to be honest. Plus my experience is that their system is (unfortunately for me) quite accurate. No, the fine does not go up, enough if you pay it at registration renewal.

A relationship needs constant nurturing, the wedding does not mean it is all settled for good. You can maybe try one thing: to remind him how he felt back in those pre-marriage days, through starting to "date" eachother again. Go out for a dinner, movies, dancing, whatever you did back in those days, just the two of you. Repeat it, make it a weekly event, a special night. If he does not want to get into, then, (harsh to say , sorry, but...) probably he lost interest in this relationship. edited by dentro on 19/02/2013

Ladies. I am passing through the long corridor that runs from spinneys during daytime on weekdays sometimes. Every time I see maids/ nannies in groups of 2-4-6, sitting on the benches inside, chatting to each other, for endless hours. Meanwhile kids are playing on the empty corridor. Sometimes they have small bikes or push-toys, sometimes they are just pushing their strollers, or even worse, many times they are just seated in the stroller. The maids / nannies do keep an eye on them, they are not in danger or anything as I observed. However! Would not it be healthier and more fun for the kids to play in the green grassy areas upstairs, at the fresh air? It is just so sad to see all those kids crawling on the empty corridor. No judgement here, I just wanted to make sure you are aware that your kid may be spending half of the morning every day on a corridor...

Hmmm. I did leave Riyadh airport alone. However I had a driver waiting for me in front of the airport in the parking, but they cerrtainly did not know that inside. Noone questioned me. I guess it also depends on who is sponsoring your visa. Mine was quite top... Some of my visas got rejected, sometimes I got single entry, sometimes 6 months multientry... It all depends on how "important" is your visa sponsor. I usually put on the abaya when leaving the aeroplane. Immigration can be rude if you are not wearing an abaya.... Do not try to go for dinner alone. Neither with random man. Stick with room service or deliveries. Religious police does ask you to cover your hair sometimes, and they do not do it in a nice way! You can identify religious police people by their shorter dish dash ( and their "I am better than anyone" behavior) In ksa it is hard to know what is ok and what not... I never feel good there. Some offices they ask you to use separate entrance, or to sit behind a partition in the meeting room. Truly ridiculous.

Depends on how much you need to lose but most people seeking doctor's advice need to lose a significant amount and sports are not good when someone is very obese - joints can get injured easily etc. She did not push me to do sports until I wanted so. She gave me appetite suppressant ( reductil, which worked extremely well for me, but they stopped selling it, so I guess these days there are other pills).

That depends on the cause of your weight gain. Also depends on what pills are you already on, if any ( for example if you are already treated for diabetes). The core of her method is diet. Exercise adds on later, when you have already lost.

Hi all, my stepdaugher is coming to Dubai and wanted to bring some champagne which she was intending on buying at Heathrow airport, shes only 19 though. Obviously she's legal to buy it at Heathrow, but what happens once she gets to Dubai airport? Where obviously you are supposed to be 21? Any advice greatly appreciated many thanks! I wrapped mine in a towel and put it in the case TBH Champagne and most other drinks are cheaper at Dubai airport and i doubt they will card her unless she looks really young. I think she will be fine :-) Towel won't help at the X-ray....
