Where in KSA are you going? If it's Jeddah, then you need to wear the abaya but you don't need to cover your hair. If it's Ryhadh, you need to cover your hair and body. No nail polish and avoid open toe shoes. Once you are inside your offices, most women take off the abaya, at least I do when I travel there.

does anyone know approximate pay for a western teaching assistant in a british nursery and expected workin hours ? thanks I think its between 2000 and 3500 AED per month Do you mean like a nursery teacher? Do you have NNEB, NVQ etc? Most of the nurseries i used to deal with paid around 7k for full time staff Even some paid that for part time ( Depending on the nursery) Teachers are paid 7000 Aed. Teaching assistants are paid much less

for Chocs ... maybe I have a thinking mistake ? Current: person earns its salary with for example 60k housing per year, lives in Dubai commutes to Abu Dhabi daily. Rent in Dubai is 60k in that case. Works out just fine 60k housing go for 60 k rent. Future: Person needs to move to Abu Dhabi to still get an 60k housing allowance, or gets a deduction of the same. in AD person only finds a place for 134k (for example) because rents are higher. so either person pays another 74k out of own pocket or person gets deducted 60k housing that its no longer entiteld, pays 60k out of own pocket instead of the 74 more rent in AD ... saves 14k...can't explain this thought better :) it's a pure example don't nail me down on numbers. it's just a response on your question who would not move if housing gets canceled. Oh, I see what you mean. LOL. However I doubt many people would agree to that. Expats come here to make money, not throw it away.

According to reports today, those that choose not to live in Abu Dhabi will forfeit their accommodation allowance. It's all kicked off at OH's company as they've all dug their heels in and said no way. If that is the case then a lot of companies will have big savings by not paying out accommodation costs. And who in their right mind would choose to give up their accommodation allowance and pay for it out of their own pocket? Meaning their package is significantly less? No one I'd know. well let's do some math. let's say you get 60k housing per year and you live in DXB for 60k whilst you only find a home in AD for 134k ... so you think the company will raise the allowance to 134K so that the employee can live in AD instead of paying 60K ?

Agh okay. I see.

I'm looking at villas on Dubizzle comparable to ours - I'm depressed now. :( Think I'd live in Al Ain. Would you be allowed to live in Al Ain? Aren't there bits of Al Ain that are sort of grey areas with Abu Dhabi? Well on the boarder then. Al Ain is in Abu Dhabi LOL thanks. There you go, could be another idea that backfires spectacularly if everyone moves to Al Ain instead, because it's cheaper, more space and better! How far is it to commute from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi?

Hi i am a new mother of 2 and looking for an affordable maid for my 2 bed apartments plus maid room really looking to start out around 900-100 a month and will give a raise as time goes on... i have a 3 year old girl who is well behaved and a 2 month baby boy... really need a maid for cleaning mostly as i like to take most care of my children...Please any help would be great i just know using an agency is much more expensive than transfering visas.... thanks in advance The minimum salary for a sponsored maid is 1500

And this new ruling is a perfect example of why I would never buy property in the UAE. How will this affect those employees who bought in Dubai and will now no longer be able to finance their loan since their Allowance will be cut off. How are they supposed to up and leave?

It is just crazy that this idiotic,amateurish movie is being given the weight, attention it is getting. If nobody reacted to this movie it would just be laying in the dust heap of unseen movies. Christianity has been dealing with this for decades. "The Holy Grail" and "Life of Brian" are but a few examples. Both idiotic (but brilliantly so) movies making fun of Christ and the Christian institution. I think any movie made to insult any religion should not be allowed. There is a very thin line between freedom of speech and insult. I would not watch any movie that would insult Christians or Jews or their religion. It doesn't solve any problems and it only hurts others. Completely with you on this...any docufeature or movie which hhurts religious sentiments should be censored....for peace! When and where do you draw the line and how to you prevent these "independant" features from being circulated ? You can't have your cake and eat it too. It's best that people of faith stay strong in their convictions and beliefs and ignore such garbage rather than demand that it be censored.

The protests are definitely orchestrated and the attack on the Embassy in Libya which killed 4 Americans including the Ambassador was professional and precise. It's a shame that such garbage is circulated on the internet and that some people feel the need to denigrate another's religeous beliefs. However, what I fail to understand is why Muslims across the world pay so much attention to these petty insults to their religion. The Christian and Jewish faiths are defiled every day in the very countries that are protesting right now and you don't see the rest of the world marching in the streets burning flags. Whatsmore, the US Administration had nothing to do with the making of this film and yet they are bearing the brunt of the anger. If one is a true believer, then it doesn't matter what others say about one's chosen faith. It is entirely is a personal matter and nothing anyone says can shake those foundations. I just find it rather astounding that such stupid, petty film would stir up such reactions time and time again. Baffling to say the least.

Derien, why would a couple of bad agents lead to a property crash?? by the way, I responded with a lengthy post to your last similar post regarding the UAE economy a few weeks ago but you didn't reply. ;) The UAE has not looked this good for a long time. GDP is excellent (very steady), low inflation, low interest rates. There are very few countries who can report this. www.tradingeconomics.com Definitely NOT signs of an impending crash. Dodgy, unqualified and unregistered agents were abundant back in 2008 when the real estate market in Dubai was going crazy. These types of scams were daily news. They seem to be back as I also have a friend who had this happen to her earlier this year. As for the market, the rise in real estate prices is due to the instability in the region. Dubai is seen as a refuge. The economy has not yeat recovered and is still very much hanging on its hinges. Don't believe everything you read.

sounds like a water leak if the water is that high. Ours has never been more than this last bill I'd say the electricity is about right for us - as I compare month for month (yawn I know!) with out previous Barsha villa So if the electricity is right for a 4 bedroom villa, what is it likely to be in winter?

derien, if it's any help, our last electricity bill in our Meadows villa (26July-25August and the DDs and I were away for the last 11 days of that period) was for 3962AED. That's with the A/C on pretty much through the whole villa as it was school holidays and then DH just left it all running when we left I think! The water element was 735AED, but we have a pool and irrigation. Is your housing fee correct? Sounds stupid I know, but ours was way out when we first moved in. Our electricity bill is around 3700 AED and the water is about 2500. The rest is sewage and housing fee. We have now started turning off the AC during the day and only having it on is rooms that are used at night. The housing fee is correct. I just don't understand how it can be so high....

anywhere between 7000 - 8000 AED per month since May. We had a leak but it has been fixed. It seems that the most consumption is actually electricity, not water so we can't understand where it is coming from. We are in the Meadows

Wow. This is terrible for both tenants and landlords. I am not a victim of this scam but I truly feel bad for all involved. I thought these kinds of scams disappeared after the real estate crash. Just goes to show that all the bad agents are back in the market as the prices go up. Another crash might be on the way... feels like 2007/2008

Ladies, Just moved house and having a few problems with high consumption. We are not sure why as the house is smaller than where we were living before but the dewa bills are huge. Does anyone have the name of an energy saving expert ( don't even know if that exists!) that could come by the house and check absolutely everything from AC, water pumps etc? We need to find out what is causing this problem TIA

My DD is 5 and DS is 8. Both shower on their own now. I am close by though to make sure they are not flooding the bathroom as well as when my DD needs her hair washed properly. Otherwise, they are capable and also dress themselves.
