It's OK. Went a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday night. The Music was BAD. The DJ was very self absorbed and didn't care that nobody was dancing. Just kept playing the same music. The inside is beautiful and you get 4 free drinks so that is nice. The staff are also very nice. All in all, it was fun but the music was bad!!!

Same. Day before I was admitted. I also had a C-section and was driving 5 days after the op. No choice in Geneva.

The general area is called Emirates Living. Emirates Hills is just the exclusive part. However, ther are also very, very nice parts of meadows and lakes.

You'll likely find that you greatly broaden the opportunities for meeting people if you don't restrict yourself to the Hills. The Lakes, Meadows and, yes, even the Springs are home to some perfectly nice ex-pat families. :-) How old are your little ones? LOL. And we don't bite either although I'm not sure about those Meadows 1 & 2 people.... they look a bit strange!!!

Good to see you actually ARE in emirates hills as opposed to most springs residents who say they are! Really? That must be embarressing for them when their "guests" actually turn up to find they are in Springs. :-)

Well, I am trying to contact on their number mentioned on website, but it says it's too busy. And that's just silly, people do have questions - other consulates/embassies answer their phones and give you response. We are checking the visa status on daily basis, but it just says under processing. I know I am venting, but more than 3 weeks or 6 months to process visa?! And for a business visit? What's more important - one tourist that will spend few thousand dollars and will travel there once or one businessman that, if deal is successful, will help US economy by few millions on annual basis?! justannoyed.com Still, when dealing with the US Consulate, people should know not to book or organise a trip without first having the visa. They are very strict!

Swarovski, - if you need an hand on the ground, I would be happy to go pay a visit to the company that you are dealing with if you know the address. So many dodgy real estate/ management companies here. The tenant may be paying the cheque to the Company and the Cmopany is keeping the money or not paying you. Could be many things. Also happy to go round to see the tenant on your behalf and explain the situation.

I don't know why people continue to buy Apple products at all. They are very bad quality. It's all a marketing scam!!!! Buy good quality products that last over trying to own the latest Iphone, or mac etc... Jeez Preference. We've had as many (or more) non-Apple products fall on their @rses. Our PC's are certainly no more reliable than our Macs and DH's BlackBerrys have been no more reliable that my iPhone. I do agree with Tiki that they don't seem to spend enough time on testing. Apple seem to be too keen on pumping new products out asap and it's the little niggles that let them down. They definitely do not spend enough time testing their products. The latest Iphone fiasco proved that! They have zero ethics. Why would they release a product that could last up to 5 years while they can release a product each year and reap in the profits despite the problems. Sorry, companies with unethical practice dont last long. edited by derien on 30/04/2012

yeah right. they say that just as they a finishing off all the Nakheel properties that were due 3 years ago!!!! Haha. too little, too late edited by derien on 29/04/2012 true, but it is a new property market, so if they can make improvements then I see that as a positive. Hopefully it will be extended to others who are still struggling with unfinished properties, or properties with no facilities.... I doubt it as most of these laws are not enforced retroactively.

It's infuriating I know. But there's just no telling some people. The worst culprits are the ones who wear their seat belts and leave the little ones free in the car. Yep. Saw that too. It is so infuriating. One of the little boys would only have been about 4. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and his side window was completely down! The car was doing at least 110km ph. Anything could have happened to him.

Personally, I wouldn't get involved as she may get in trouble. Maintenance staff are generally on 2 year contracts. She will be able to leave when her contract is up, not before.

The office building I work has a lovely Sri-Lankan lady who cleans the rest rooms. She told me today she isn't happy, mainly because of her salary, and that she wants to leave the company. So I asked her if maybe she has worked as a maid before. She has worked in different GCC countries before, mainly in Doha. Now I really want to help her find a maid job, as though the salary might be the same, she at least gets gets her food and better accomodation, plus being with a family is better than cleaning toilets. She has to pay for her own food, while she makes only 700 with overtime! Here is the problem: I don't really know if she understood me when I asked her if it is possible for her to leave, since that's what she wants. I really don't want her to end up in trouble if anybody would find out she is looking for another job or if the employer would make her pay for a part of her visa as she would be leaving way before the end of her contract. What do you think I should do? Help her, or stay out of it? Thanks! Not sure if you work in the DIFC by any chance but I also know a Sri Lankan lady who cleans the toilets who is very unhappy. I would also like to help her.

I'm at my wits end now. We have one of the municipality gardeners and he's been great up until now. Suddenly he keeps doing things without asking me and charging for it. 250 Dhs for 6 little pansie flowers? Really? They're like 10 dhs each. I don't begrudge paying for things I've actually asked for and when they do a good job. But to me this is taking the mick! dig them up, give them back and don't pay. He'll get the message

Hi ladies, We are off to RERA today, as landlord refuses to renew our contract, which expires in 10 days, unless we agree to increase of 30000dhs, even though only 1st year of contract. However before we go, I would like to try and find out if our tenancy contract has been registered as I understand RERA won't help if it is not registered. Do any of you ladies know how we can check if it has been registered? If contract is not registered, I have read that we can register it ourselves, but the online registration form requires landlord signature and states it can only be completed by landlord. Form is on www.ejari.ae, unless this has been replaced? Again anyone any experience on this, please share. Thank you so much for any advice as we are totally stressed out with this, the landlord sprung this on us just a week ago, with no notice It's the LL's responsibility to register the Tenancy contract so if there is no trace of it at RERA on top of the illegal increase of 30'000, your LL is going to find himself in deep water.

Or perhaps she has no choice? She is still in Syria with her chidlren ( over which she has no rights in Syria). none of us can really claim to understand what position she is in. That is the point the ambassadors' wives are making - she does have a choice and she isn't exercising it. ETA: And those emails support that opinion. Those aren't the emails of a woman trapped. Shopping for extravagent household items while carnage is all around her, for example. edited by JackyD on 18/04/2012 Or she is falsly supporting her husband as the alternative is separation from her children or death? And she's spending 10's of thousands on expensive things from Europe as a means of shopping therapy? Could be possible, I suppose ... when things go bad, the first thing I do is run out and shop ;) Haha. Okay point made. Just think there may be more to it than that, considering her father's hometown is Homs

Tell the prospective buyer you'll move if he finds you a villa identical to the one you're in and at the same rental price and running costs and if he pays for the move himself. Exactly ! and make sure that if you do move, you get the security deposit and paid rent transfered from the current Landlord into an escrow account. edited by derien on 18/04/2012

I suppose Emirates and Ethihad a going to love this! Put all the airfares up during the school holidays making it impossible for most to travel during the holidays. Right now, the holidays are staggered so the airefares are still managble... It's funny you said that as I was going to make a joke re whether Emirates was sponsoring the unification :P. 'Unified holidays, brought to you by your favourite service provider XXXXXXXXXXXX' (SkyKitty - I AM joking, it's just because they do sponsor many things - have all respect for the airline :D) LOL

The Taleem school cut-off dates are non-sensical and have created problems for almost every parent that has placed their chidlren in The Children's Garden. Having said that, I have checked with DIA and they said they would be willing to take my daughter directly in Year 2 rather than Year 1. The KG2 at Children's Garden is the equivalent of Year 1 at DIA and the Registrar has a list of all the equivalents. You should be fine if you explain it to them. HTH

I like the idea although some of it puzzles me a bit- mainly the wording in some of the print ads, which to me don't make sense. But I get what they're trying to say. My favourite campaign is still the "When was the last time you did something for the first time"- now that was cool. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWmcoKLaluE'>link[/url'> Of course the jokes are already flying around about this one, but no way am I repeating them, don't want to get in trouble haha ;) Yes, particularly in this part of the world ;-)

Perhaps I should start a new thread, but checking that lovely table of school fees, the one I'm looking for is "undisclosed". Anyone know how much it costs to send a 2 year old or 3 year old to Children's Garden? Their fees are nowhere to be found on the net and since we will be responsible for it, want to know if I should even bother applying... Thanks! 42K per year

Congrats Barmy Army, I can totally understand what you are going through. In my case, I'm similar to twinsmum as we conceived via our 2nd IVF and I have just discovered there are three sacs in there, the doctor said we should wait for another 5 weeks and hopefully one of them would have stopped growing, if not he would recommend we travel abroad and get them to make one stop growing. All three have strong heart beats and are similar in size but this is an absolute nightmare! I havent been sleeping and would love to know if anyone has been through this and knows anyone that has. I'm still yet to sleep since i got the news 3days ago. Any advice? Am i misunderstanding- you have triplets and doctors are advising you to abort one of them? ??? What sort of doctor would advise you to terminate a sac with a healthy heartbeat?

Why would you even get pregnant before having all your I's dotted and T's crossed? I agree with AB. Insurance in this country is very important. The costs and risks associated with not having it are enormous. Honestly, why do people take the risks?
