You could try the other approach, tell her that you are so happy to be able have helped someone less fortunate that cannot afford toys for their baby, and you are glad her baby enjoys the toys as much as yours loved them! maybe she would then feel guilty and think about doing it again! what an example for her to show her own child!! :( *LIKE*

That is so dangerous! The Mother is probably inside somewhere doing the shopping or getting her nails done! or she could have been taken ill or had an accident.... All the more reason not to leave your kids in the car alone!

I just don't get these Maids that demand flights on such and such airline!!! ( sorry OP - throwback to another thread) The company I work for avoids people flying Emirates at all costs because of the price difference. We use Qatar, Virgin etc. Seriously, Top executives are not even getting a choice these days!

You have already sent her home in August and she agreed to wait until December to go home again. Now she is complaining about the airline???? OMG... Just tell her she can't go home in August as you need her in Europe and that she can go home in December. When she does, cancel and ban her. Basta!

Hiccup, I know this is an aweful thing to say and I shouldn't be advising it but it did work for me. You need to start to appear NOT to care about your husband ( even though inside, your heart is breaking) Start to make plans with friends on the weekend and bring your DS along. Just tell your husband at the last minute, "Oh, sorry forgot to tell you, going out.... You'll be alright here, won't you??. Stop calling him and texting him every day (not saying that you do) so he has no idea what you are up to. Plan a vacation to visit your parents and take your DS. Basically, make sure he sees that you have a life and don't need him. This worked with mine and gradually he got the message and started to wriggle his way back into our lives. He is taking you for granted. Just Don;t live exclusively for him. :) Take care Hmmmm, this could also back fire :\: I know and that's whay I knew I should not be advising it..... but it did work for me.

Can you not study here? How do you think the kids will feel about moving away from their father and only seeing him 2 or 3 times a year? I think there must be more to it.... You really need to think about the impact this this decision will have on your mariage. Does your husband know how you really feel? edited by derien on 15/02/2012

If it's any comfort, I had spotting in my first pregnancy and it was brown ( sorry TMI) That time , it was a miscarriage. The second pregancy, I didn't have any spotting at all and I carried term a healthy baby boy. with my 3rd, I had red ( bright red) spotting at about 10 weeks and cramps and I carried to term a healthy baby girl. Not sure if there's a difference with regards to the color, but with my 3rd pregnancy, I was told it was red due to implantation ??? Just relax and I am sure everything will be fine. xox

I have a friend who works for a local company, been with them for about 9 months, but only got labour law contract issued around 3 months ago. The company did not pay any staff their salaries at the end of January and circulated an email that they were not in a position to pay salaries until their clients pay them! So what can the staff do in this instance? My friennd is on a limited contract with over a year left to run on it. I understand that if she breaks the contract she is liable for 1.5 month's salary, but in the case of them not getting their salaries, can they approach the MOL to lodge a complaint and if so, how long would the process take? My friend has a new job to go to at the beginning of March but worried there will be implications with cancelling the visa with the current employer. She can lodge a complaint with MOL but if it's the Government who are not paying up, I'm afraid that this could drag out for a while and she may be in a sticky spot. How awful for your friend.

Yes. DIA offers this. The children are taught at a very young age to open their mind and explore the world. It is all about enquiry and thirst for knowledge. The children do not learn things parrot-style and so it may appear ( at least in the early years) that they are behind their American/British counterparts. However, it balances out and they tend to be more astute later on, particularly in the last 2 years of IB. An example of the difference in learning styles. Let's say the subject is the First World war. British Curriculum students would be about to recite dates, key events, names of battles etc. An IB leaner may not be able to recite all the exact dates etc but would be able to tell you about the impact the 1WW had on the world.

I agree with allowit. Parenting is a journey during which we all receive loads of unwanted, useless, busy-body advice. We have to remember Dad is the other parent so he gets a say...everyone else is welcome to their often irritating opinions, but we can just smile-and-nod then get on with what works for us. Your husband probably won't change if he genuinely wants his family's advice. Best to try to change your thinking and let it all roll off like the proverbial water on a duck's back. ;) Not in the cases where the Husband systematically ignores the advice of the doctor or what you feel is right to please his mother. I have lived through that and it does not work either. Some MIL's have the knack of only giving advice when they are asked. Others give advice as soon as they hear something is wrong. I prefer the first batch.

Don't tell your husband next time. Just do what you feel is best. I would be furious if my husband did that too. Then MIL would be DO THIS , DO THAT!!! Just stop telling him things until he gets the message well if I don't tell him, he will see it anyway (not diarrhoea of course, he can't even stand hearing about it) but smth like allergy! My MIL thinks she is a lawyer/doctor/mother Theresa/dentist/journalist.... of course she is none of these things but the amount of "advice" she dishes out, you would think she has a triple degree. Just tell your husband that you do not appreciate his family gicing you conflicting advice and that it is up to the doctor's here to treat it. I must admit I can absolutely understand where you are coming from but my DH would not do that to me.

Hi ladies, I was hoping someone on EW could give me some advice about what to do. I find myself in an awkard situation with regards to my daughther's schooling and I'm not sure what to do next. My daughter turned 5 end of January and is currently in FS1 the The Children's Garden in Jumeira. I remember having a huge disagreement with them when I enrolled her back in June 2010 about whether she should go straight into FS1 or pre-primary. All the teachers at TCG recommended pre-primary. So this is her second year at TCG and she is only in FS1. She will be starting FS2 in September so I am gussing that by the time she starts Year 1, she will be 6.5 years old, turning 7 during that year. The Taleem schools seem to have a completely different cut-off date to ALL other schools in Dubai , meaning that they work on a calender year. If she goes into a Taleem school for year 1, she will be smack bang in the middle in terms of age in the class. However, if she attends any other school in Dubai starting Year 1, she would be a whole year older than some of the other kids. I wish I had been informed about this at TCG when I enrolled her as now I cant see a way out. She would technically be old enough to start Year 1 this September but she hasn't even done KG2. If I keep her at TCG another year, I have a choice of 2 schools, both are Taleem schools and both charge over 65K per year in the primary section What should I do? Does anyone else know of shcools that use 31st of December as the cut-off date for admissions? TIA edited by derien on 09/02/2012

Thanks Anna-Panna. My daughter is currently at TCG in Jumeira which is taleem school and it is fantastic. I want to keep her there another year then pur her in DBS. My son is already 7 and the oldest in his class at DIA. The Taleem schools seem to have a completely different cut-off date to the rest of Dubai so kids are a little more mature going into Y1, Y2 etc. I have seen the campus which is amazing but BOY!! is it expensive.

I spoke to a lady who worked in the Primary Administration Office this morning and I asked her why they charge 65K per year. She answered that it was because they only had 25 children per class. When I challenged her ( DIA have 25 per class and only charge 42K per year), she then said "Oh, actually it's because of our location"... so I guess I am not really that interested now!!!! Not even the the American school charge that much per year. And it's a rand new school with no history. I think I'll give it a miss

I don't think so. 30K per month is not much for a family of 4, even if 75% of the schools fees are paid. Is there a cap on the amount the company will pay in fees? Where are you planning on living? If it's in an expat area, prices for a house tend to start at about 150K per year ( for a house big enough for 4). The there's the cars, Dewa, housing tax, Du or Etisalat, Entertainment etc. I think it may be possible but with little savings at the end of the month

Nice to see they might actually be working for a change!! Ummmm The police in this city work very hard indeed and couldn't be any more courteous, on any occasion we've had to deal with them they have been fantastic. i love dubai police and am grateful for their hard work (considering we don't contribute towards payment of their services) that goes for all the hardworking fire & ambulance crews too. Esp those that worked all of NYE so we could enjoy fireworks etc. I agree. Every encounter I have had with Dubai Police has been wonderful. They are very efficient and work hard. I was just wondering why they were all out today. Maybe it is because of the Turkish President..... . edited by Muesli Bar on 31/01/2012

Q - how many EW does it take to change a lightbulb? A- - one - why is she not asking her DH to do it - what do you mean, ask her DH, just because she's a woman she can't change a lightbulb? get into the 21st century - what has she got a maid for if she needs to ask this - who said she had a maid? - I looked up her previous posts where she said she was using a maid - that might have been her neighbour's maid not hers - doesn't she know that's illegal - why has she moved here if she can't follow the law? - and what are you? the ew law police? - that was not her maid, her maid got banned last year for smashing lightbulbs while trying to change them - how do you know so much? are you the OP with a different user name? etc etc Very accurate about EW
