Contact the Consumer Rights Commission and lodge a complaint. They sold you something under false pretences. They should pay and correct the mistake

Disgusting on the part of the LL. If I was in your situation and was pretty sure I wasn't going to get my deposit back, I would break every window in the villa, make sure I dug up the garden and then I would probably hide some rotten prawns somewhere so that the stench is unbearable. What? Teach him a lesson! edited by derien on 27/03/2013

Sadly this happened to me twice and both times around 6.5 weeks. Provided that the Dr. has got the feotel calendar correct ( it's not an exact science!) then there should be at the very least a heartbeat by 6.5 weeks. Maybe you are not as far along as she said! In any case, if you do miscarry, it;s usually for the best. You will go on to have a healthy pregancy. Fingers crossed for you. xxx

From my understanding, the LL has to give you 12 months notice and your 1 year starts at the end of the present contract. However, you need to check if you signed a non-reneal contract first

Why would you be upset? You wont be digesting it! A *** is Najsul-Ayn (completely impure). It is not permissible to use any product of a *** as well as any product manufactured from it. Well you do know that many products imported from Europe and elsewhere contain *** fat and pork derivatives, right? This includes many foods sold here where it is not mentioned in the ingredients and cosmetics

Thank you all so much for your replies! We have decided that India is not the place for us, before I start a debate (not my intention) we do not feel that it will be the family holiday we could relax on, so have booked elsewhere. I am sure India is a fantastic place and lots to see, however just not the place for us at the present time. I think that is a wise choice. Hope you have a fantastic holiday wherever you go.

r u KIDDING me?? i live in an independant villa - and if any of my neighbours do that (any time after 10pm) - even on the weekend - i am straight on the phone to dubai police. it is inconsiderate, unncesssary and down right selfish. the police are very quick in responding. i would not hesitate to call. edited by rhubarb on 21/03/2013 So glad you are not my neighbour! We had a party to 2am on a Friday night. Informed the neighbours in advance, invited a few of them and nobody complained. So long as people don't abuse, noise is a way of life in a compound or appt block. You want peace, go live on a farm

What time did it go on to? If it wasnt late, then why make such a fuss. It could have been her birthday, engagement or whatever. Not everyone has the cash to make celebrations outside their own homes.

If your Daughter turns 6 in July, then I think she technically qualifies for Y2 placement at DIA in September. However, I would advise against this as she will be the absolute youngest in her class and will no doubt struggle with the IB program which starts to get really tricky in Y3. Also, if the school that youmention happens to be TCG, they are notoriously behind in terms of reading so your DD might struggle of she wnt straight into year 2. The other issue is that TCG is not registered with the KHDA so you will not be able to get a transfer certificate to prove that she has completed Y1. My advice would be for a Y1 placement. edited by derien on 21/03/2013 @ derien: spot on regarding her current school. Now my problem with DIA is that they are strict in their age placement and will not allow DD to go into Y1 because as per her age she would be Y2. I'm a bit put off by that as it seems they would rather set her up for failure and make her repeat a year later, rather than giving het the chance to catch up now when she wouldn't notice anyway. It would be much harder for her later on when she sees her friends move up and she would have to potentially stay behind :( @ Pikachu: Maybe 'laim' was the wrong expression and in no way directed at DIA. What i mean is, some schools just let the kids carry on at their own pace and don't push them to improve and achieve better. edited by starfishalicja on 21/03/2013 But even so, DIA cannot admit her in Y2 because you will not be able to prove she has completed Year 1 because they are not allowed to provide a transfer certificate. THEY ARE NOT A SCHOOL. The TCG is aware of this problem!!!!

I wonder if he has the right to refuse her work however Women oly require an NOC to go onto their sponsorship. He can't give an NOC is he's not sponsoring her. Ask PRO what problems the husband can still create, as well? edited by ShopGirl12 on 20/03/2013 Absolutely agree. She is not under his sponsorship so does not require an NOC from him.

When I read posts like this, I am so thankful that I was born to liberal, western parents who raised me to become a confident, independant woman and who sent me out to discover and conquer the world at a young age. Who never raised me in the shadow of my brothers but as an individual with equal rights. Who recognised my aspirations and pushed me to acheive them. Who were always there to guide me but without pigeonholing me into a traditional female role. I am so thankful every day. edited by derien on 20/03/2013

Heard on the news - Cyprus is going to take 9.9% from all bank deposits there of 100,000+ Euros and about 7% from any lower amounts when the banks reopen on Tuesday after a holiday - to pay for bailing out the country's debt! People are queing up in droves to withdraw their cash Yes - this is what will happen and it will certainly put a halt on foreign investment in the country

I don't think this post has anything to do with a 4 year old being able to dress him/herself or not. We all know that kids are prone to tantrums. They were running late, the OP asked her husband to dress the DD and he turned it into an example of what OP should be doing. Not the time nor the place. Like I always say to my DH, if you care about something that much, make it happen or take responsibility for it with the kids. Sometimes, men treat their wives like their employees. They give an instruction then expect it to be done and then they swoop in for a quality control at various intervals like they were managing a project. Sorry but I don't dance to that tune! edited by derien on 14/03/2013 Sorry for the deviation Derien, that was my fault. I was just really curious. I only have one child and really don't know many others of a similar age so genuinely have no clue what is normal. I know it wasn't anything to do with the OP's post, so sorry to the OP as well for digressing away from her topic. :( I wasn't having a go at you!!!! :-) It's just that this post reminds me so much of my situation sometimes. It's frustrating. Have a great day!

I know where you are coming from. My husband has always been a pretty hands-off father with the kids, at least he can be at times. He is there but only passively. So most of the hard slog work at home with the kids falls on me, even though I work full-time. Organising the household, meals, homework, playdates, showers, conflicts, putting to bed, getting them up and dressed. I find that my husband has days wher he wakes up and thinks " I better get involved more today" and it usually happens on days where things are not going smoothly. he then jumps on me and everything is my fault. I'm too soft, I'm not doing it properly... It really makes me mad because he then tries to "undo" the routine I have established and do it his way.... FOR ONE DAY until he goes back to his passive self. Personally, I think in a morning rush, 4 years old is too young to be getting dressed on your own. My DD is 6 and she is only now just getting it. Still needs help to put on her uniform which is tricky, brush her hair, teeth and pack her bag. I would personally speak to your husband and let him know that if he shouts at you in front of the kids, he is setting a bad example ( Mine never shouts!) If he really wants to help out, then set some tasks for him and let him help out. You sound alot like me - I bet you are actually really organised when it comes to your kids and very much involved in their lives. It's a good thing and you don't derserve to be berated like that.

What is the problem with a company keeping someone's passport? A passport is a travel document. If you need to travel and your intentions are honorable, then I'm sure your company will give it to you so that you can travel and they trust you to return. I am American and I used to work in Taiwan and my company held my passport. If I needed it, they gave it to me. In this country with so many foreigners, companies and sponsors have a right to protect themselves. And keeping a passport still doesn't necessarily protect you against absconding employees... WOW!!! Really? A passport is your identity and no one should be in possession of it except you. If the office where your passport's kept catches fire or you need to get out in case of an emergency you should always have it with you. And considering the amount of fires that actually do get started in the UAE... it could happen. You need to have access to your passport at all times.

Companies that want to hold onto the passports of their employees are generally ones that have had huge problems with attrition and absconding. They are not the kind of companies you want to work for. I work in the DIFC and I do not know one single comapny that holds their employees passports.

You were in the wrong if you are driving around the roundabout on the right. If you are in the right hand lane, then you should be turning right at the next exit. If you are in the left (inner lane) you can either turn right or go straight. You could have caused a serious accident there! edited by derien on 10/03/2013

I agree with those who say that all children are different and all mothers are different, and some babies no matter what you do will cry and cry and cry. You can't lock yourself up at home because your child is bothering others! Life goes on... Being a mother is such a hard job - this coming from someone who is about to have her first baby. I already have my best friend giving me baby advice when in my eyes she is the worst mother in the whole world and each time she tells me "you must do this" or "you must do that" i wanna say "why the **** would i ever take advice from you! You're the worst parent ever!" But in her eyes she's the best. And in her eyes ill probably be a terrible mother and an even worse one for not taking her advice! What to do! I feel like i'm already being judged and i haven't even had my baby. Wow! Some best friend you are.

Who takes their kids to a concert during weekdays anyway with a show starting at 8.30? I thought kids were in bed by 8.30-9PM. ??? Most of the local kids are not even in bed before Midnight here! I am sure execptions must have been made regarding bedtime for the Beiber show. That's why the parents were so peeved when he came on at 10.30! People in this part of the world have very different routines. Lots of people here sleep in the afternoon. Not hat I would allow my kids out that late. Not here or in London. Especially on a school day. Would do them some good to get some sleep at night too since most of the kids start school at 7.45 the next morning!

I don't know about that. Maids of a "certain nationality" tend to fabulate and exagerate the truth, especially when they are asked questions by other expat Mums and they know they have centre floor. Maybe her employers came home late a couple of times but it has turned into "all the time" when she is telling the story. And what is the difference between a Western Mum having to work long hours and not seeing her kids and a Filipina Maid leaving hers behind for 3 years to work in the UAE? Judgemental much? I would take what this maid says with a huge grain of salt. They tend to exagerate alot, trust me! edited by derien on 05/03/2013
