My kids really enjoyed the kids club at the Angsana in Phuket. They did have to be supervised if they were under 4 but you can hire a babysitter for 2 or 3 hours or day to go in with them. At the time I think it was something like 20 dhs an hour so not expensive. It was a great way for everybody to have a bit of a break! You would just need to reconfirm that though..

If you're going budget, the Premier Inn next to the London Eye is great value in a fab location. You can walk along the south bank from there or over Westminister Bridge towards Big Ben, Buck Palace etc. If you want to push the boat out then St Martin's Lane Hotel between Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square if great. Very modern, gorgeous bathrooms and the best ever espresso martini in the bar :)

Not Switzerland or Austria but if you're looking for an alpine holiday I can recommend Les Contamines in the French Alps at this accommodation http://lescontamineschalets.com/the%20chalets.htm 1 hour drive from Geneva. Gorgeous little chalets close to the village, short drive to an activity area which has swimming lake, adventure playground, kids activities, gondola up to a lovely mountain lake and restaurant where the kids can fish for tadpoles and go out on pedaloes. Lovely walks, close to Chamonix and Lake Annecy for days out. We have been there twice and loved every minute :)

We did a 2-week family tour of Scotland last year and had a great time. We stayed in family rooms in hotels including: Oban (Ranald Hotel) Fort William (The Lime Tree - excellent food) Skye (The Flodigarry Hotel) Inverness (Premier Inn) Edinburgh (Premier Inn) Glasgow (Premier Inn) Premier Inns are not particularly exciting but the family rooms were good value and the one in Edinburgh is in a great location on Princess St - ask for a view of the castle. We saw the fireworks every night for the Edinburgh tattoo from the window. Bits the kids really enjoyed were a boat tour from Oban out to Tobermory (or Balamory as my kids know it :)) the outlying islands, walking through the foothills of Ben Nevis where they filmed Harry Potter, the ferry up to Skye, Skye itself which was just fantastic (walking up to the Fairy Pools, eagle spotting etc), a dolphin trip on the Firth of Forth, a visit to the Culloden museum, a visit to the reindeer herds just outside Aviemore and the Edinburgh Festival where they have lots of fringe shows for the kids and they actually got to go up on stage. Thoroughly recommend the trip, enjoy :)

HI Skyhighgirl I have two one bed furnished apartments in a new block with swimming pool etc available for long term rent. They are in Tersefanou which is a village about 10 mins drive from Larnaca Airport. So not central Larnaca, but very near. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you some info. DF

This was my situation last December. My parents came for about 10 days at the beginning and helped out, I took some leave over Christmas at the end and in between my husband and I took it in turns to work from home in the afternoons (luckily our work is quite flexible) or I arranged playdates for the kids straight from school and collected them after work.

We celebrated our 10th anniversary with two nights at Al Maha. It was just amazing. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and one night on our pool terrace (I think there's a AED500 supplement for this). The waiter came and set up and brought us our food course by course but didn't hang around between courses. We did a sunset camel ride with champagne which was lovely too.

Cant remember what I used, I think I spoke to the pharmacist who recommended one that could also be used on children. If you are staying in Negombo I would advise against the whale watching. We were only staying about half an hour away from where the boat leaves and our friends came back absolutely exhausted and a bit disappointed with the whole day really. I guess if they had seen loads of sealife it would have been different though!

We were in Sri Lanka this time last year. Yes, definitely take mossie repellent, as good as you can find. There are lots of them and they are especially bad in the period as the sun goes down. make sure you and the kids are covered in the stuff before sunset or you will be fighting them off as you try to get it on! I was worried about the bugs but actually, there were no problems, but we were vigilant with the spray. We also had the same concerns about the whale watching and in the end decided to give it a miss. Two of our party did go though, and they said it was very long (about 5 hours on the water), they got very sea sick and didn't see anything. So I'm glad we didn't go! We had an absolutely amazing time in SL, I loved the place.

Hi Popsicle Last summer we stayed in the Internazionale Domus apartments with our kids aged 7 & 5 (in the suite in the link below). It's slap bang next to the Spanish Steps, so a great location, and the room was a really decent size with a kitchen too. I can absolutely recommend Dr. Muna Hassan at Mediclinic Dubai Mall. She has recently successfully treated my daughter's scalp issues and was the only dermatologist out of many I have taken her to over the past couple of years who actually diagnosed it correctly. If she can't help you I'm sure she will be able to recommend someone good who can. HTH

Part of the same Laguna complex as the Outrigger is the Angsana Laguna which is also fab and directly on the beach. Kid's Club there is great with loads of different activities. Last Easter they had a full day Easter Extravaganza with a pirate-themed Easter egg hunt, games, egg decorating etc etc - dropped my kids off at 10 and didn't see them again till 5. Even then, they didn't want to leave!

My daughter's doctor also recommended this but said it was not available in the UAE and that I could buy it online or in the UK. I have not been able to find it online, however, and I wonder if it's been discontinued? Sorry, this doesn't help much!

I love both - have been to Thailand many times and my parents live in Cyprus. Worth considering that Thailand could be quite wet, especially West side, but the weather in Cyprus in late May/early June is just about perfect.

By nursery class I meant it had a similar feel i.e. smaller group, a couple of dedicated TAs looking after them etc. They did far more sports-based stuff than I would expect from a nursery. I think she swam almost every day, played dodgeball etc. For the younger age group I think most of the summer camps will be like that.

Yes, my daughter was 3 when she first did the one at DIA. Can't remember the exact activities but the younger ones are separated out into smaller groups - it's more like a nursery class. There were definitely more art/craft/music activities than the older ones. There's a list on their website of all the ctivities the younger ones do.

Yes, my daughters have done the one at DIA for the last two years and will do it again this year. It's big but it's well organised and my kids have really enjoyed it. They will also go the Gulfstar one at Jebel Ali Primary (also very good). Last year they also did the Active Sports camp at Regent which they liked. HTH

We like the Saturday Roast at the Dubai Marina Yacht Club. There's a small salad starter buffet, a carvery with three different roasts, all the trimmings then sticky toffee pudding for dessert. I think its 150 a head. Plus drinks are buy one get free.

We have been here 10 years and only once been back for a longish break over the summer. I work full time so only get a couple of weeks leave. No, it's not my favourite time of year, but my kids like the summer camps and we take advantage of the cheap local hotel deals. I can fully recommend a weekend (or two) at Meridien Al Aqah on the East Coast. It's amazing how much more bearable the temperature is when you're sipping something cold under the shade of the pool bar with your shoulders submerged. And the kids club is ace!

I'm a working mum with kids in school that doesn't have a bus that goes near our house. My husband and I share the pick ups and drop offs where possible although when he's away I do them all. I do them in my lunch hour even though it's an hour and a half round trip. Luckily, as others have said, I have an understanding employer and I made it clear to them before they offered me the job that I was going to have to do this. Even so, it's a pain in the neck! On occasion I have asked my nanny to collect them in a taxi if it is impossible for either if us to pick them up and it's always been a nightmare (taxi drivier doesn't turn up/know where he's going/won't wait etc etc). Next year comes the challenge when my kids will have an hour difference in pick up times and there is no facility for the smaller one to wait. I can't think of any other solutions that employing a driver which I don't particularly want to do. Car pooling not really an option as there's noone else from school near us. Any other suggestions most welcome!

I bought an iPad from them this week and was just saying to my husband how efficient the whole process was. I ordered at 1 pm, had the opton of same day delivery but chose 9-12 the next morning. They called me at 9.15 to confirm the delivery address and to confirm that I could present the credit card I had used for ordering and it arrived at 10.30. It was also by far the cheapest. No payment problems at all. Will definitely be using them again.

Try Abd El Waheb in Souk Al Bahar - food is great, they have a terrace overlooking the fountains and a wine list :) Also there is a nice arabic restaurant in Dubai Marine Beach Resort. I can't remember the name of it but it's not the one in the same building as Loca. It is in the grounds of the hotel and has a lovely terrace and Arabic style seating overlooking the sea. Obviously both better in cooler months for the view.

We had our best family holiday ever in the French Alps last August staying in one of these chalets http://www.lescontamineschalets.com/ Temp hovered around 25/26 with a couple of days of rain. Fabulous for the kids: we caught the cable car up the mountain and then walked down with stops at mountain restaurants for refreshments and swimming in the mountain lakes; there's a big activity park with lake swimming (freezing!); we did a day trip to Lake Annecy and to Chamonix for a trip on the Montenvers Railway and a visit to the ice caves which was a highlight. Most evenings we barbecued in the garden and the kids just ran around. Totally recommended for a complete change from Dubai scenery!

Dear laughing sid I'm sorry, I have no experience with Ovarian Cancer, but I work for EHL, the company which runs City Hospital, and just this week they have announced the launch of a new treatment for Ovarian Cancer called CVAC which is meant to be pretty a revolutionary new therapy. It's been developed by an Australian company and it's the first time it's available in the Middle East. I don't know if it's appropriate for you or whether your doctor is already aware of it but it may be worth exploring. It's being led by Dr Fadi Mikhael at City Hospital.
