We just moved to Abu Dhabi from Al Ain and I'm newly pregnant with my second. I'm finding all the healthcare options options here dizzying- in Al Ain it was pretty simple. I had my first baby at Oasis hospital where my obgyn was also located and it was good. We are nearest to the Al Noor hospital on Airport Rd and it would be awfully convenient to have my appointments and birth there but I know nothing about it. My first birth was completely natural with midwives at Oasis and we'd like to do the same thing this time. Can anyone tell me what al Noor is like for a natural birth? Do they use midwives for appointments and the birth? How are the facilities? Can baby and husband stay in room with me after the birth? Are there long wait times for appointments and scans? Private rooms available after birth? Can anyone recommend a good obgyn at al Noor who speaks English well and listens to patients who have opinions and preferences about their care? Also any good pediatricians? Some other general healthcare questions about Abu Dhabi- Do most people go to clinics outsides of hospitals for general Dr visits? We just went to Oasis in Al Ain for everything but it seems here there are more clinics. Are these better in terms of getting appointments and shorter waits? I realize these are a lot of questions but I would appreciate very much any helpful info! I've searched the forums and not found answers so far. Thank you!!!

Hi! Just moved to Abu Dhabi from Al Ain and I'm six weeks along, due date is around April 20th! I've also got a boy who just turned two and we just came back from holiday in Canada. What with the morning sickness, jet lag, fatigue and dealing with my toddler and I'm about to keel over. We're moving into our new place this weekend on top of everything too. Excited but cautiously waiting to get to 12 weeks as I've had an early loss before. Congratulations ladies!!! Happy and health 9 months to us all.

Hi, lots of info here. I've looked into things a bit and so far I've found starz for special abilities is probably our best bet. I called the british learning centre (their branch in dubai) and they've said the Abu Dhabi branch is closed. Still looking. I've glad this thread is getting some attention- it's so hard to find info! Thanks

Thanks again. I did look into the Club as a good option- but was told my a few people that it can be very, very crowded at the weekend. I don't know as I'ver never been there. But I prefer somewhere a little less busy, more quiet and relaxing. It does look nice, though. I also looked at the Yas Hotel- membership costs were more than we're willing to pay- at least those that are listed on the site. Still looking.

Hi, We will probably be moving to Abu Dhabi from Al Ain this summer and I am really worried about a bunch of things! I don't know Abu Dhabi very well, except for the places we regularly visit- Ikea and the beach, lol. We will most likely be relocating to Khalifa City, near Zayed U- my husband drove around the area a bit and was sad to report a lack of parks and a deserted feel (yes, I know we live in the desert but...). One of the main things that keep my son and I sane are the numerous parks here in Al Ain, so I'm so worried that we won't have any nearby or will have to drive for 30 minutes just to find one. Can anyone testify as to the existence of parks, playgrounds or green spaces in Khalifa City? Also, and this is a long shot- anyone live in the housing provided by Zayed U? We've been told it will be sufficient for our small family, but also that no specific details can be given until right before we move! Oh one last thing- we are members at a wonderful hotel resort here and I'd like to have the same kind of thing in Abu Dhabi, but from what I can see memberships are uber expensive! Anyone know of an affordable family friendly hotel resort or club that offers pool access? Any other info about living in Khalifa City (I'm not sure, A?B?C?) is very welcome! Thank you!

Thank you for the information and the links! I did do the theory course at Emirates Driving Company but they were not good at explaining what else I need to do following that. The links you provided were very helpful. Looks like it is back to Emirates Driving Company for some lessons.

I'm needing to take some refresher lessons before I take the driver's exam in Al Ain. I haven't driven in almost 10 years. Can anyone recommend a good English-speaking instructor or just a reputable school with good (English-speaking) instructors here? There seem to be so many driving schools, I don't know which is best! And the licensing process seems so complicated. I've taken my "theory" course and passed the exam...now I'm supposed to take a reverse and parking test or something? Then the actual driving test? Can anyone shed some light on this process? Thanks in advance.
