dh & i walked through the house and 'valued' our furniture as you would, i.e. what it would cost to replace it - ballpark figures. my wedding ring - i submitted the valuation from the jeweller. my dh's sporting equipment, we submitted purchase receipts as well as quotations to have them replaced (and we submit new quotes every year upon renewal). the rest we guestimated. our home contents are insured for dhs.250,000 and axa debits my c/card annually with dhs.500 ... bargain (imo) hth

at our wedding we had free-flowing beer, bubbly and wine, an open bar until 10pm (reception started at 5pm) and thereafter a cash bar - on liquor only - mixes were on the house. i have been to many weddings where it was done in a similar way. i have no qualms about paying for my drinks ... this couple is starting a new life together and perhaps buying a house, baby on the way/planning an immediate family? who knows ...

i was fairly new to dubai when colleagues invited me to a party. it was in a vila behind lloyds bank on al wasl. i met dh there but that night wasnt interested in him at all. fast forward 1 year, i'm at a friend's farewell (some restaurant at the meridien airport hotel) and he's there. we were talking the entire evening before we figured out that we met at that party 1 year ago. because we hit it off that evening neither of us could believe that there was no interest at the time! we started dating and 2 years later were married. we are celebrating 9 years together this year :) one of the reasons i love dubai so much :D

thing is keila, we have to 'accept' that it is cultural but why cant others accept that in OUR culture it is rude to make comments like that? we have to be PC when it comes to others, and most of the time we are, but they 'get away' with things because it's their culture? just a question ...

i just want to add that not all breeders are dodgy. we bought our puppy from a breeder in AR and they are the most amazing people. the puppies are well cared for, all shots done by the time we picked him up, all papers ready and legit and the family was genuinely 'sad' to see the puppy go (but very happy that he was going to be taken care of properly by us). so there are some good breeders out there too.

DD and DS school closes on the 28th June for one day and they are back on 29th/30th June, then break up for summer holidays. I thought the holiday falls on the 28th and not the 30th? why would the public sector take a day in the middle of the week if they can have a long weekend? ;) i'm not complaining though as we are in a free zone and i work with the 'masses', so our company always change our days off to either the thursday or sunday :D

Guess, I am not in my right mind then! I would do the same :( Its my instinctive response to pick up something I see someone leave behind and run after them. I can't remember how many times that's happened, whether its a baby's shoe or someone's phone once even a couple of rings that looked like diamonds and gemstones in a mall washroom, that a lady had just left. I think I would forget that this could be a security issue - believe in human good. I don't know the details of this case and I sure hope they have a reason for convicting her. Will try and point people out to items left behind in future..... i'm guilty with this too. i'm forever running after people with their belongings, always hoping somebody would do the same for me if i ever found myself in a similar situation. we can only speculate about this matter ... how can we know what really went on there?

i'm STILL waiting for a package through emirates post (it was sent more than a month ago). i would also suggest enlisting the help of family / friends. it's a special occassion, explain the logistics to them and i'm sure they'd be more than happy to help. good luck with the arrangements!

it's not ME and it's not just the company i work for. it is the standards / regulations set by the food industry. if a product contains less than a percentage of sugar, companies are allowed to market it as 0% sugar, for instance. the ingredients are on the label, you as consumer can read it but marketing is such that all you (generic) as consumer see is the 0%. there was a shampoo on the market not too long ago, it claimed to have real diamonds in for extra shine LOL same principle.

I agree everyone needs an advocate to stand up for their rights BUT i really don't know how some defense lawyers can look themselves in the mirror - this also goes for pressecutors who have convicted innocent people....... really is winning that important that you will sell out your morals / eithics... You're right - it is one of the difficulties with the profession (like any) where you may be asked to defend someone you don't believe to be innocent for the sake of the wider principles of the legal system. If you KNOW your client is guilty because they have told you so, technically your obligation to the courts is higher than the obligation to the client, and you are obliged to resign the case (unless the client intends to plead guilty). I am sure law is not the only profession where people are required to do distasteful things where there may be a clash between your personal views and the duties you are required to perform. 2 of her lawyers have resigned citing "travelling costs" mmmmmm and you are right embo, the legal profession is definitely not alone when it comes to doing something that clashes with your personal views and duties. i am in the fmcg industry and am amazed every day how 0% fat or less than 5% sugar is put on labels knowing full well what the ingredients are. but hey-ho. btw, thats not only the company that i work for but all companies within the food industry.

who knows why she did it. she's sick. and if her dad's involved, then he's sick too. they confiscated family computers and 5 years' worth of google searches etc are on it, but a month or so before caylee's disappearance, searches regarding "how to make chloroform" "breaking necks" etc were deleted. how random? evidence given by ex boyfriends and even CA's own brother left a bad taste in my mouth. this, i think, is what evil looks like.

it's when we walk past a stunning woman and he DOESNT comment that i get worried LOL to deny someone is beautiful is a lie IMO obviously going over the top isnt a good thing, but when we see someone from the opposite s3x who is beautiful/attractive (in our opinion) we say so.

we were having dinner one evening, i ordered something spicy. when it arrived and i had my first bite, it was MORE than spicy. i sipped my wine and told my dh that i was going to send it back - not complaining - just asking if there was some way for them to tone it down a bit. a lady, 2 tables down, got up and out of the blue told me to drink milk. i was wtf? she said 'oh i was listening to you telling your husband how spicy the food is and i thought i'd tell you that milk works wonders' ... i was gobsmacked that she was listening to our conversation AND felt the need to say something :\:
