dutchdesert, it definitely does NOT unlock your phone like that. i've tried too. i also use the dev team, and they are very clear that the software to unlock the new iphone 4 is not available yet (well, the version that i have). i've done the jailbreak thing, but it's still unlocked. you can also go to www.iclarified.com ... that's a pretty nifty website.

seems like it yes, pufinlunde. we phoned the lawyer appointed as trustee for an explanation: yes, an individual can do debentures. the way the school works is that you pay X amount into the debenture system, that is kept in trust and when the kids leave the school, that X amount is returned to you - interest free of course. so, for the duration of the child's tenure at that school, you are a "shareholder" with preferential annual fees, the school scores on the interest X amount generates but all you get back when your child is done, is the X amount you deposited initially. edited by dikane on 12/04/2011

havent they recently revamped the al meena souq? i'm sure i read about it somewhere. we loved going to the "old" souq so i assume it'll be even better now that it's upgraded a bit.

thanks appletiser, but i'm still confused. the admission form says - and i quote - "a debenture is a once off, secured, interest free loan to secure the pupil's place in the school. X Bank is the first bondholder and debenture holders with a debenture certificate are the second bondholders." and then it carries on to say that "Mr X will ensure that all certificates made out to debenture holders be registered over the property/goods as a second bond." does that mean i have to take out a loan for school fees in order to qualify for debenture benefits (i.e. 5% off school fees)? edited by dikane on 11/04/2011 edited by dikane on 12/04/2011

A few months back my tire went flat on my car, I had several men pull over to help me. Restored my faith in man kind.. :) this happened to me too. but the only man who stopped was a pakistani driver (i asked where he was from) and i've sung his praises ever since.

i had a "friend" who i was friends with back home for many years. she moved to dubai many moons before i got here, and was doing well for herself. i got here, on my tod, and from the minute i put foot on uae soil our friendship has never been the same. she was so scared that i was going to ask her for help, money, a place to stay, car lifts etc that she just kept her distance. (i havent done any of that, and am very proud of the fact that i managed on my own & have succeeded in the end.) needless to say, we are no longer friends. good weather friends, i think that's what they're called. if they cant be there through the bad times, then you dont want them there for the good times. a pity that we have to go through a bad patch before we see who our real friends are. sorry to hear about your husband's job. best of luck x

LOL monkeys. you dont drive through the al ain wildlife park, you walk. they have many shops for refreshments etc so dont worry, but be prepared, it's BIG. our first time there we got lost around the first roundabout, but phoned the park. the arabic gentlemen was extremely friendly & helpful and went out of his way to assist with directions. perhaps phone them beforehand, and then correlate what they said with the map you have? enjoy!

all the time over here! i refuse to move, stand in the door and look at the floor. if they still dont get it, then i look up and say "please let me out". same thing happens when you enter/exit the metro. people just dont know ... The metro is the worst. We took it last night. Were first in line for the Gold Class and a few little cheeky teens pushed their way through the people that were trying to get off just to claim the last few seats in the section. After a few min they looked at me with my baby and asked if I would like a seat. Told them no that they must have had some serious medical problem that required them to be so rude and pushy and bypass the entire line that was qued up before they ran up the escalator so they could sit down. They just stared at me blankly.. that's what takes the cake ... when you say something and they stare like you're from out of space!

very strange that there's a thread about this this morning. we're not making pros and cons lists but we are at a time in our lives where we have to decide. i've only ever had one truely honest comment on this subject - my best friend once said (knowing i wont judge her at all) that if she could have her life over, she wouldnt have had children. and she didnt (and still doesnt) wish her kids away, it was just a comment she made. all you ever hear is "they make you sad, angry or whatever, but its the best thing that's happened to me" ... you never REALLY hear how some women wish they never went that route because that is taboo. (ref. a thread not too long ago about the woman who wrote an article or something ...?) by saying you would chose differently if you could, doesnt (necessarily) mean you wish your kids werent born, you're just saying/admitting that life may have turned out differently. i'll keep an eye on this thread because there are some very wise EW ladies on here. edited by dikane on 05/04/2011

I agree with this sentiment - probably THE worst thing here is that feeling - that you are at the mercy of how some individual feels on any given day. It is the pits. I found out recently about someone here who who involved in a minor incident and protested about it and did say something along the lines of "what kind of country is this" - the person concerned has been dragged from there to here with police and has had to sign a letter saying that they will never say such a thing again. Can you believe it? this sums it up for me in a nutshell.

LOL ryana. you are human. and a woman who is missing her husband (even though he is in the same room). it is hard work & sometimes we feel silly doing it (god knows why!?!) but try to bring the romance back. for your sake as well as your husband's. TELL him you miss him, SHOW him and i'm sure it'll be reciprocated. have a wonderful day and (hopefully) a vavavooooom weekend ;)

Just thought some computers hava an automatic finder in them;when I google something most things enter automatically as soon as I enter the first letter....;And if his IP address is in abu dhabi it will automatically put in places and things of reference to there...So be careful Iwouldnt go and accuse him of an affair over those facts I know that but this words are not the ones that are generated by the automatic finder and this pc is the one we use at home. If , for example I type "I" I get indian airlines, isohunt, ikea dubai, itunes, india express, imdb, india, icici bank, ikea, iphone 5. This is exactly what comes down in this order. Now if I type m then malayalamanorama ,mathrubhumi between other things and so on Please explain to me why these will be generated by our pc? We are both not from India and didnt plan to travel there. ryana, i've just opened google and typed in "i" and "m" and i get EXACTLY why you typed in your post below. so i do think it is auto-generated. btw: i'm not indian, have never been to india, nor planning a trip there, and this is my work computer. perhaps it is time to take a deep breath and re-assess the situation?

As I have been in this situation years ago... for me it was the not knowing, it drives you mad. Sometimes you need the actual proof to see as even though it hurts, it's a weight off your shoulders and you can then move on to the next step. A woman should always trust her gut feelings. i agree. ladies, lets face it ... we have that 6th sense and we should always trust it. think back how many times you had a niggly feeling about something - anything! - and you found out it was true, or whatever. i'm not saying the OP's husband is cheating, but better to find out that there's NOTHING going on than tossing & turning about this. good luck ryana. i hope he's stressed, overworked & tired from the long commute x

I know this will sound stupid, but can whats happening in Bahrain, happen in Dubai? The Middle East is such a volatile area I don’t think anyone can say with 100% certainty that this couldn’t happen in Dubai. Agree Agree. That's why we have never bought property here. Regarding the Bahraini ladies, I watched a segment on SkyNews yesterday and although I was (somewhat) surprised to see a covered lady on tv speaking her mind, I thought it liberating and a pleasant change (under the circumstances of course).
