So sorry, losing a pet is gut wrenching under any circumstances. When we had to say goodbye to our pup our vet was amazing - so very kind and compassionate. They also organized the cremation and sorted out a private cremation for us so we could take his ashes with when we leave Dubai. Highly recommend all the vets at Vienna Vet on Al Thanya St (just near the Burj Al Arab) - and in particular Dr Michaela.

Some places have an express manicure....sounds like what you got. A regular manicure from Sisters, Pastels or The Nail Spa (particularly the one at Arabian Ranches) will have what you are looking for!

Mat pilates or Reformer pilates? If mat pilates, Motion Fitness Center will let you try the first class free ....highly recommend Denise's class. If Reformer, again recommend Denise but I think individual classes are 130 AED.

If you can hear it then his mask doesn't fit properly. There are many different types of masks and he needs to find the one that works best for him and his face structure.

We flew our 14 year old blind Sheltie from Washington DC to Dubai two years ago. He flew Lufthansa cargo and had a layover in Frankfurt where the vet checked him and he got some human love before continuing on. It was a hard decision, but the fact that he always loved his crate and was such a mellow dog helped put our minds at ease. It took him a few days to sort out how he had left the cold & snow and ended up in the heat of summer but he did really well.

It just needs to be over - there will be no winners. One is a criminal who thinks she is above the law and doesn't have to play by the rules of every other US citizen and the other is a buffoon that thinks he can say and do anything he wants with no consequences. I'm absolutely ashamed that with all the amazing citizens in the US this is what we were left to choose between.

re: hotel recommendations - what is important to you? Do you want good diving? Do you want to try and see the whale sharks or mantas? Good snorkeling? A house reef? Are you willing to pay for the seaplane transfers or do you want a boat transfer? Do you want a la carte restaurants or are buffets ok?

We went in June - here are a few key points to remember: - Many resorts won't allow children under 12 or 14 to stay in the overwater bungalows. - Seaplane transfers are expensive and usually aren't included in the airfare or the resort. If you pick a resort that needs a seaplane transfer, plan on paying an additional $300-$400 per person (kids included). Once we had the flights and hotels booked through Emirates Holidays, they contacted us to arrange the seaplane (at the additional charge of course). - It's a Muslim country so alcohol is expensive...if you drink a fair bit, all-inclusive may be the best way to go. Many of the resorts won't allow you to split it though - i.e., only one person gets all-inclusive and the others do breakfast only...whatever you pick applies to all guests in the room.

The last price I have was actually 1080AED/month but if you buy 3, 6, 12 month packages it gets cheaper and they do really good promos as well....in July they did buy 3 months get the 4th free and at the end of August they did 40% off an annual membership. If you go to the gym 5-6 days a week then it is by far the cheapest option I've found in Dubai It's also far less money than my husband pays to play golf every week ;)

Motion Ladies Fitness behind the Burj Al Arab wouldn't be that far from the Marina....they are great. You can buy a monthly pass for around 1200 AED (their prices may have gone up slightly in September) and attend all the group classes you want or you can buy packs of 5/10 etc. They have personal training, pilates, yoga, barre, TRX and are starting crossfit in October....rarely more than 8 ladies in each class so a lot of personal attention. They do have a social environment as well...a lounge for coffees before/after classes and they do brunches when the weather cools down.

For a vet, highly (highly) recommend Vienna Vet on Al Thanya on Umm Suqeim. I encourage you to at least visit K9 Friends (or one of the other rescues) before buying a dog - can almost guarantee you will get a much healthier pup from them than any breeder in the area.

5% VAT? I wonder how they will decided what is VAT-able? It's something of a luxury tax in the UK, of course a bunch of silly men have decided that certain ladies essentials are luxuries!. But will it be applied only to luxuries or to everything? Education, healthcare and most groceries will be excluded. The article I read said only 100 grocery items will be covered.

I went in early April two years ago and wore shorts & t-shirts the entire trip...so definitely not cold. Highly recommend the day trip to traverse the canal - it only runs certain days of the week so be sure to check that before you book flights.

Nila23 - but did you use it for departure or arrival? We've used it for arrivals before and so I know that's worth the cost for unfamiliar travelers....we've just never used it for departures.

First Al Khail runs through Al Quoz as well - the first major street back from the SZR access road and then Al Khail Road is the same as 44 I believe.

I actually think he owns the clinic and often operates without any help - making it near impossible to contact him days he's in the OR. There should be a mobile number listed on the website - call that if it's an emergency. Otherwise leave him a message and he will get back to you (although sometimes it's quite late in the evening).

You can buy Briskett at Prime Gourmet - they always have it, just have to ask. They can also order Oyster Blade which is what I know as Flat Iron so similar to Flank...takes them 24-48 hours to get it into the shop.

Because pets can leave the UAE as checked baggage vs cargo heading to Europe and the US it is much cheaper to depart with them than arrive with them. I've been told the paperwork to the US (assume Canada would be similar) is uncomplicated and can be done yourself and the cost for excess baggage will be around $300 for our 18kg pup. Hope that helps a little.

Do I need a prescription to buy contact lenses here or are they sold over-the-counter? I brought a years worth from the US but to order more from there, I would need to find a Dr here who can write a US prescription...seems easier if I can just pop into the optician and buy a few boxes.

I just moved from Miami last year - if there isn't a hurricane chances are the rain will only stay around an hour and then clear up. The outlet mall in Miami is nice but the outlet mall 30 minutes north in Sawgress is so much better - dedicated stores for Tory Burch, DVF, Canali, Elie Tahari etc. I would only go if you are staying at the beach and have a car - without one of those things it's just a big city where no one speaks English.

I suffered through 6 months of poor quality cuts and colors (and Nails!) at Pastels because it was convenient. Switched my hair to Ted Morgan 6 weeks ago and my nails to TNS at Arabian Ranches...why oh why did I wait so long????? If I had known about sLam 2 months ago I would have tried them as they are closer to me than Ted Morgan.
