Presumably 30 k pounds which is approx 180,000 dhs - plenty for a decent villa... No it's not it's more like 166,000 and that makes a big difference, even at 180, it could be tough to find a villa for 4. The OP need to confirm accom allowance and schooling allwance in ordet to gain feed back. sorry, I always just multiply by 6 which was why I said approx..we pay less than that for a 3 bed villa...

Do you plan on rinsing your dishes, etc. before placing them in the dishwasher? I would use washing up liquid (and rinse of course) to remove any excess grease or food before placing them in the machine. We use the Geant brand combo tablets, the blue and orange. I can't tell you exactly what the features are because it's in French. :) DT what do you use to clean once a month? Finish Dishwasher cleaner - it's a flattish square bottle that you invert on one of the prongs..We've never used cheap tablets - always Finish although I sometimes buy ownbrand rinse agent, depends what we can get. Personally I've never bothered rinsing plates - might as well not have a dishwasher !! lol

The water here is mostly soft - you won't need salt..just a tablet detergent, rinse aid and once a month or so, we run a cleaner through the empty machine on a hot cycle.. Best to just see how it goes..

It's the same - he's doing the same job.. You said "We still have a package but if we didn't I think my husbands salary would be more". Yes, it probably would be, but it almost certainly would NOT be as high as the value of his current salary plus whatever your housing and school allowances are. As I said, the whole reason companies are removing benefits like fully-paid housing and school fees is to save money - it's a MASSIVE drag on a company's cashflow to have to pay out per-employee lump sums for rent and education. So say your DH currently gets 50k salary + 200k housing (paid in full by the company in one lump sum) + 150k school fees. That's a total value of 79,166k per month. But if your company decided that it wanted to save money by removing the benefits and just giving you a monthly all-in salary and making it your responsibility to get enough money together to pay your rent in one cheque, it wouldn't pay you 79,166k per month, because they wouldn't be saving any money. More likely, you'd get something on the region of 75% of that 79,166k as monthly salary, which would be 59,374k. it's a forum so I can make any comment I choose Sure you can, but I always find that thinking before making a comment is a good policy ;) Do you ? I hadn't noticed... 200 k housing ??? hahaha...I wish... The company wouldn't remove our benefits since it was their decision to send us here - if they want to save money they simply send us home !! What I actually meant was different jobs, as in, people who don't get full packages may well have a higher salary than those who do, so it's as broad as it's long...

Why are they so useless... Contacted me by phone (unable to answer as in UK and out and about). Send email not more than 10 minutes later to contact her for job opportunity to discuss. I respond and three emails plus two calls later, no response. No wonder they have the same reputation out here as estate agents.. We don't get housing, school fees or flights for all of us either. I think sometimes it's easy to get sucked in to spending on things you don't really need to though. For example after school activities - if you think about it we didn't have them when we were children and there's not really a [i'>need[/i'> for them to do umpteen different things which cost a fortune. They are mostly happy enough just out on their bikes in the park instead! Same with eating out - there are sooo many lovely places to go, but so many of them are so expensive. You can eat just as well in little eateries in Karama, Satwa, Bur Dubai, and save the pricier places for special occasions. Online grocery shopping is a good way to keep your grocery spending in check too. When you are walking around [b'>Spinneys [/b'>it's very easy to just keep filling up your trolley, but if you are shopping online with a list you tend not to do that. Winter is a good time of year to try and make savings on things you spend money on in the summer; play areas, indoor activities etc. There are lots of free or cheap outdoor things to do in the UAE. If you can afford to shop in Spinneys you must be on a good package !! lol

We still have a package but if we didn't I think my husbands salary would be more so I don't think it's always straightforward - yes, you may have to pay for everything yourself but your salary will be higher... [b'>But it's unlikely to be anywhere near as high as the value of your previous salary-plus-benefits[/b'>. Since the whole point of companies slashing packages is to save money, it doesn't make sense to take away fully-paid housing and then give the same amount back to you as extra salary, does it? There's no net saving to the company. And of course, you've also got the issue of how you pay things like rent when you've been used to your company covering it, but suddenly you're having to find it out of your own pocket and your LL is demanding it in one cheque. That's one of the biggest reasons why the first thing many new expats have to do on arrival is go to the bank and get a huge loan - and once you've got that loan, you have to consider how you're going to pay your second year's rent. If you want to do it without a loan, then you'll have to pay your monthly loan instalment *and* save the same amount every month (ideally *more* than your loan instalment every month). That will take a colossal bite out of most people's salaries, and could even make it unaffordable to live here. [b'>So please, think carefully before you make glib comments [/b'>about it not really being any harder to live here if you don't have a benefits package. If you've never had to do it, you don't understand the problems involved. DH once said to the CEO of his company that he'd happily accept a 10k a month pay cut if it meant that the company paid his rent - but the CEO said that wasn't an option. And this is a big, profitable company, and its housing policy is that you can be advanced a maximum of 30% of your salary, but only over four instalments. If you need to pay your rent in one cheque, then you're on your own. edited by VelmaDoo on 09/01/2015 It's the same - he's doing the same job.. You know nothing about me - it's a forum so I can make any comment I choose  lol

I get loads of facebook friend requests from strange men and I mean [i'>strange[/i'>... lol I find it particularly amusing when they go on about how "beautiful" I am so they clearly don't look at profile pics...If you don't want to hear from men you can try searching for ladies or women groups as websites or on facebook...plenty around. Also have a search for where you live - community groups are hugely popular... Facebook privacy settings have an option to prevent people who aren't on your friends' lists messaging you but that will block out the women too...

I've never understood why people who claim to be well informed can't seem to grasp the fundamental principles of vaccination...Thanks to these people we are sadly seeing the return of hideous diseases that generations of vaccination programmes had managed to eradicate.. There is no evidence of a link between MMR and autism - the research that most fears are based on was debunked long ago...To not only leave your own child at risk but the population at large is selfish and thoughtless in my opinion. I may be old-fashioned but I believe we all have a responsibility to follow medical advice and do the right thing.. sorry.

Learning support ???? Kids first ????? At Saffa private school . Maybe in the "old" days . I am charged for learning support and my kid gets pulled once a week for maths . Reading ? Spelling ? Reading at his own pace , has to sit behind a computer at break time to be able to get a new book ? And you continue to spell the name wrong !! lol - it's SAFA. We've always been charged for Learning Support - that's the way it is here, you are free to employ your own shadow if necessary or avail of the school's learning support department. I don't know what "my kid gets pulled for maths" means. The reading system is the "accelerated reading" scheme which is an excellent way to get the children reading more challenging books - they select the book then complete a quiz about it and if they pass they can move up to the next one..most of the kids love it - doesn't have to be done at break time, they get library time during the day as well.. Frankly, it sounds like it's time for you to be looking for another school...

Which is a better school? Heard that Safa private is under new management that has become commercial and non-inclusive? Does anyone have children in any of these schools? Do they have a good learning support team? Any good experiences with learning support in any school in Dubai? Thanks! I am not a fan of Safa School ever since I called a few years ago interested in a place for my children and a very big deal was made about their needing to have to check their UAE national quota as they were only allowed x many nationals and so I'd be better looking elsewhere . KHDA reports came to soon after, nationals at the school = 0. Ever since I began to consider it a far non culturally friendly school. Others may say this is wrong but in my experience this is what I was shown. We have over 40 nationalities at the school...but "a few years ago" the school had different owners, different premises and a different head teacher.

The management is the same that saved Safa from it's original premises 3 years ago but the Head did change in September..I don't know what non-inclusive means but I don't feel they are any more "commercial" than other for-profit schools here... We're happy with the school and looking forward to moving on to the other Safa school in September - have met the new head there a couple of times and have no complaints...

think you will find a lot of people moving "back". Or moving elsewhere, because let's face it, the UK is a disaster right now. How so? Why is the UK a disaster right now? According to the press the economy is booming? edited by Simpsons on 29/12/2014 The UK has 'gone soft'. Too much immigration, not enough jobs, not enough looking after their own - and that's for starters. Have had so many friends move back and be treated like utter scum, it's ridiculous. [b'>And to people who say 'well it's home'[/b'>, when you were born somewhere, but have lived over half your life in other countries and all your close family have relocated elsewhere - where IS home? I don't know where home is? I'm leaving the UAE next year, but heading elsewhere. I've lived there all my life apart from the 5 years I've been here, my parents and all my family are there, my house is still there and since September my eldest son is there now too so yes, it IS my home...I'm sorry you feel displaced, I hope you can be happy somewhere else... To be honest, when councils start turning off the street lights to save money I find comments that the economy is booming a bit of a puzzle...
