Theoretically they are actually supposed to take your UK licence and return it to the DVLA!! This never happens of course, but it's worth reminding the OP and son that his UK licence will not be valid once he had a UAE one, so the UAE one should be used in the UK too. How does the DVLA know he has a UAE licence ? Well, the DVLA don't know - but the UAE licence replaces the UK one, so you need to hire a car, for example, using UAE licence... How does it "replace" it ? the DVLA don't know he has a licence here..and he's too young to hire a car here anyway.

I've asked around about that and people generally say around 8 although that still seems young to me. Honestly, I'd rather risk offending someone than risk some perv molesting my son. I still take mine in with me and have never had a problem - he'll be 10 in May.

I use it and it's great! If you want to know who is making a profit out of the advertising why don't you just ask the school? They may however tell you it's none of your business. Of course it's my business. I'm paying the school and this is basically the only means of communication now from the school. Aren't any of you curious people? Then your school is not using it effectively. Are you working for them BC? Nothing is perfect. The communicator doesn't work on my computer and it's a pain to have to go to the resources and download and print every vocabulary list when the school could easily email them. Plus I don't have a printer so I will have to get one. But that is another matter. My question is why do all the schools all of a sudden use it? Who paid for it and where is the advertising money going? edited by dolleymadison on 06/02/2014 How do you manage without a printer ? My eldest is always printing off homework or projects..... I think your questions about profit should be directed at the school, not here... One of my schools doesn't use it, they've just introduced something different which we have had to pay for, so if you got yours for free count yourself lucky !! lol

Personally I think this will stop the "lady of the Manor syndrome" and get people back to reality. If you cant afford to live in a big Villa ...... downsize. Oh the irony! I think you will find most of those have left, most who are living in the big houses do so because they can afford it! Not according to this thread. If employers paid wages in full (as they do in every other country) rather than paying for education and housing as a package everyone would be a lot clearer on what they can and cannot afford. It would make life easier for a lot of people. Things like housing and education can be taken away, as this thread confirms, wages cannot!! Most people I know that live in big houses have brought them so the package does not apply. People you know here or in the UK ?

I had a text that year 13 are finishing at 3.10 but if not convenient parents can send a note that they can still finish at 2.40. Obviously all parents will have had confirmation of arrangements from the school...

There is an app called Swype that allows you to type by dragging your finger across the keyboard...The Galaxy S4 does that anyway - I don't know if iphones do - with the exception of one ipad we've never had Apple in the house !! lol

The thing about the idiot with the Porsche in Singapore isn't really anything to do with expats, it's about wealthy people versus ordinary people. If you can afford a Porsche in Singapore you are clearly *very* wealthy - the punitive taxes applied to personal car purchases (in order to try and limit the numbers of vehicles on the road in such a small, congested island) mean most Singaporean residents, be they expat or local, simple couldn't afford to do that. If you aren't aware, Singapore charges 41% tax on the value of the car at import, a $1000 registration fee, and a one-time Additional Registration Fee of 150% of the car's open market value. And before you are allowed to buy a car you have to bid for a Certificate of Entitlement - only a limited number of these are released every month, and they cost $$$. You can see how expensive that makes even a little Toyota Yaris, never mind a Porsche. and your point is ?? Read the OP's original post and the above again 'slowly'. The point MG is obviously making is, the OP stated it's expats with this attitude make us all look bad. MG explains, it's nothing to do with being an expat, it's the 'I'm considerably richer than you' attitude, nothing to do with being an expat! wow, so rude !!

There seems to be a lot of scaremongering around Facebook community groups... Good news that this reported incident has turned out to be a misunderstanding, but that still leaves the 3 other similar reported incidents in the last 2 weeks... I don't remember how the bus case ended up but as LT says, there's a fine line between making sure our kids are aware of what can happen and scaring the pants off them..

What she can do with this friend? confront her or not talk to her? and how to do this if the 2 girls are in the same class for the second year? the mum friend is a friend and ongoing friendship with the ex wife of friend I am writing the post on her behalf. And she keep asking herself why this mum befriended her and did not tell of the friendship despite talking about the ex wife several times, and the last time they met the mum friend asked about how things are going with the ex wife. why would it matter that she's friends with a mutual friend of her bloke's ex ? how old are they all, 12 ? lol maybe the friend's just nosey.. and why is she talking to mums at school about her bloke's ex and their problems in the first place ? isn't that private ? sorry, don't really know but i'd say it depends on how she feels about the friend. If she likes her and wants to remain friends then she can, and stop mentioning the ex, but if she's not that fond of her anyway just ease out of the friendship...shouldn't affect the friendship of the children.. good luck

If you're that interesting in helping, you don't need EW to organize it, which may take more time and resources. There is power in social media, any of you can contact the number that was listed in the article, clarify the story and find out how donations can be made to make sure they reach the right place, i.e. the hospital, and start a FB page/Twitter feed to spread the word. Yes, agreed - Facebook is the way to go.. I shared the article on both my personal page and my group page. There is a number at the end that you can contact to offer a donation. No need to wait for someone else to do it for you - and after a number of unfortunate incidents regarding charitable causes on here I suspect Admin would be wary of getting too involved... Having said that they could maybe arrange collections at their coffee mornings....

I agree with Alismum - STS does an amazing job. Its door-to-door service, they don't start driving unless all kids are belted, all kids are scanned in + CCTV and their helpers and drivers are excellent. I would've made the same decision as you (take my child myself), but only out of fear. If you find next year that its not working out I would not fear the bus service option. (this being said for STS - not sure on the other companies) You may find that your child requests to go by bus after school starts. Many schools have field trips the first year and the bus ride is the highlight for many of the children. This is what happened to me! P.S. To Doubting Thomas - my young children have had no "bewilderment" at all ... it is a very straightforward process. It sounds like once you looked into it but once you realized that you couldn't afford it or clear the waiting list, you gave up and justified your decision in a way that insults the other parents that you "feel sorry for." Have to say I feel sorry for the masses of parents who have no choice but to use school buses..we looked into it for our teenager once when we thought we'd have to move.. It cost a fortune, the stops were limited so he'd probably have a long walk to the house, by the time all the drop-offs were completed he might not get home til 5 pm and there was a huge waiting list anyway... lol On top of that the general standard of driving leaves a lot to be desired - I often see school buses doing something stupid or dangerous. They don't all use seatbelts and I've often seen kids fighting or walking around whilst the bus is moving... Plus, for very young children I imagine it's quite bewildering...And from a mum's point of view you miss out on the opportunity to meet other mums and get to know the teachers... So no, I wouldn't use them if there was any other option... Sorry.

CORNFLAKE FOUND :o) Great news he as picked up by a kind lady who tracked us down through the internet and radio. Also the dog on Al Khail that got hit by a car was picked up, taken to a vet and is going to be fine. Good news all round! Thanks for all your help ladies xxx Really happy for you that you got your dog back !! :D I got to the dog on the Al Khail road not long after it had happened and he was just sat on the road licking himself - couldn't see that he'd been hurt at all...glad he's ok..

And the men are fools to think that this kind of behaviour is anywhere near acceptable. If there are problems and issues in a relationship, you talk it through, and decide on a course of action - it doesn't give them free rein to mess about. Actually, if it was me then posting on a forum, or even using the computer at all, would probably be the last thing i'd be doing... People deal with things in different ways. It could be true - middle aged married man flattered by the attentions of a 20 something year old, fed up at home with the wife being ill for months and having to care for a 4 year old....they sneak around having an exciting affair then either he ends it or she gets demanding and he refuses to oblige but for whatever reason she decides to bring affair out into the open by giving the wife a story...husband comes to his senses - he only wanted a bit of fun anyway, and tells her he's staying with the wife so in desperation, having lost her job and income and facing having to go back to her home country in shame, she pulls out Plan B - the pregnancy which may or may not be real (or even his !!) ... Actually this whole story strikes me as strange as well. The OP's husband has managed to seduce, date and impregnate his child's teacher during the fall term? And then break up with her ...With all the holidays, they'd have had much less that four months. Either the OP's husband is something like George Clooney or I don't believe it. No I agree with you and have said all along I don't think the teacher is pregnant. I think she is just trying to get her revenge as he left her to go back to his family and she probably knows that saying something like this, true or not, will definitely split him from his wife. Which is exactly what she wants, with no thought for anyone else involved. Nah, I don't believe the story at all. It defies common sense. well, I daresay the OP wishes it wasn't true...

Maybe he's not as evil as painted and just caught up...He tried to finish with her, there was no hint of the pregnancy in the texts the OP found, but she was determined and deliberately told the OP about his so-called advance to her with the intention of drawing their affair out into the open...When the plan failed and it looked like the marriage was going to be saved she pulled out Plan B - the pregnancy. The weak sap of a husband has just gone along with it...maybe he's hoping to get the pregnancy terminated or maybe he knows there isn't a pregnancy and it's a plan to drive the OP away quickly...Lots of questions... I just hope Celesti can get home quickly and with as much of his money as she can lay her hands on !! lol

Celesti, wishing you lots of strength and positivity to deal with this situation. Karma is a b i tch, and it will sooner or later bite them both in the a ss. You'll get out of this a stronger person. Don't be surprised if your DH comes crawling back to you in the end. Keep a diary and write down the events, your emotions and all details. This can help you later on with getting a clear picture of what happened, something that might be hard to have now you're in this horrible rollercoaster. Plus, it might help you with giving an accurate line of events to your child in 15-20 years, if your child wants to know the story. Ladies, is it just me or does a shiver also runs down your spine when you read stories like this? It sounds like it could happen to any of us, no matter how strong your marriage seems to be or how well you know/trust your partner. Or am I the only one? That's because it can and does happen to anyone. wherever they live...human nature and all that...
