Dear Doubting Thomas, We do investigate before any bannings... we don't ban upon request- we delete posts/threads upon request. If a user has broken the rules, then they are banned. So a user can have posts deleted without being banned... it all depends on the scenario. HTH EW Admin edited by admin on 07/11/2013 But I got banned once for advocating that parents encourage their children to stay in school! Sure, lots of people disagreed with me, but I didn't insult anyone! When I wrote to enquire about what precisely I did to get banned (so I wouldn't do it again), no one got back to me at all. At least you knew why you were banned - I know lots who don't and who didn't break any rules either... emails never get answered.. I'm just guessing because it was the only thing I had posted on that day :( No offence but you can be very rude...maybe someone complained...

Thank you for your input Admin - I am encouraged to hear things may be changing soon. Can I ask if you intend to review your policy of banning members when requested to do so without any discussion or investigation ?

Why did SM get banned? I think it was because she said certain people treat their maids very badly... oh I missed that one....

I still think that it was a mistake to put schools and maids onto their own boards. I loved those threads, but they don't get any traffic now. EW created separate forums for those topics due to the demand of EW posters. A few years ago, so many users were getting annoyed by all the maid and school topics so it was suggested that they have their own forum. Personally, the maids forum is not very interesting. It looks more like a classifieds section than a forum... QED

It's not cheap employing staff here and all the paperwork etc is quite bothersome so I doubt that having gone through all that anyone would be prepared to give their maid time off so that they can work for someone else...especially as it would be illegal anyway.. Your only legal option is to go to an agency or sponsor a full time maid yourself... sorry.

ANother thing that might be useful, is that granted certain questions come up so many times - why not make them sticky threads? So the information is readily available and easy to find and posters can just add new info as and when it changes. Save the same thing being asked a bazillion times. Because if everything that was ever asked a hundred times became a sticky thread, there would be hardly any new threads on this forum. And many of the questions I've posted lately seem to go unanswered anyways ... Perhaps they could have a whole "sticky" section, like a maids or school one... could may be something like a "Common Questions" section...? what, like this you mean ?? http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_faqs.aspx

It is supposed to be an insult. A wake-up call to prod someone that they're being **** in some way. It's also used as humorously in the same way as "no sh*t Sherlock" EDIT: that censored word is a n a l edited by Faded Blue Jeans on 06/11/2013 LOL - i like the Sherlock one, use it all the time but somehow telling someone who is clearly not dead to get a life seems a bit strong for a public forum... just my opinion..

Definitely very slow these days...

I think it's an unfortunate combination of things - loads of regulars have been banned, interesting threads get deleted because they get out of hand and the demographic is changing...lots more different nationalities and endless mundane where can I get/how can I do questions..yes I know it's easy to say when we've been here ages but really, can nobody use Google anymore ?? There's very little movement now and loads of threads only have one or two replies - some have none at all.. Moderation has been too heavy handed and people are just bored now...

Thanks WO - I think I found someone, anyone heard of Steve Saleh? Yes it is smart brunch / world cup / wedding attire! I am defo going to pursue this EID charge then, since it seems they are being totally unreasonable. I did query it and fight it, but was told it is govt regulations. Maybe time to get the local friend involved lol! :-o

That`s a bit unfair. What if a German wants to come? Will they be thrown out? They can go to the German mum's club...It's quite normal here for nationalities or other groups to have their own social organisations... and to be honest, if you were German why would you want to join a club for mums from Ireland ?? lol

Thanks simpleasabc, at last some helpful advice. Clearly, based on other replies, this is my fault, and no one has ever got stressed planning a wedding before. I am not asking much - please turn up to the correct venue, on time and not wearing a bin bag. If that makes me a bridezilla then so be it. We actually got married 18 months ago just me and DH in a registry office and it was the most romantic day, but our family and friends were desperate we did something that included them too, hence this day. We begged and pleaded re: the EID as we have the application form but it needs to be the actual card. Which sucks. do you happen to have a copy of his previous one - I know it will have expired but the info doesn't date.... nope he never made a copy... I am not making fun of anyone for what they wear but surely some common sense applies? so what IS smart chic ? maybe they just don't understand ? same with the venue, if they're not local maybe it's not clear

I am not seeing him as evil, said it quite clearly that I even felt it could be affection shown both ways, i.e., by daughter too. I have no problem with other forms of contact and have seen her with other classmates, hugging one minute, fighting the next. But really ladies if you were to find out that it involved a kiss would you be okay with letting it go or stop it from happening again? She is my first and only and I may be displaying my naïveté and old fashioned-ness but I really have not a clue. It wouldn't bother me...

It is our wedding blessing on Fri - we have spent 18 months preparing, spent the equivalent of a house deposit and have family flying in from all over the world. I am just so angry as it is so stressful and people are just pathetic. For example: * Hair dresser stood me up for the trial and now after rescheduling stood me up again, 3 days before the wedding. How the F am I going to find someone to do my hair now? * Venue demands husband's Emirates ID to waive tourism fee - since he hasn't got this yet we are being charged 3.5k even tho we have residency visas * Guests are being ridiculous - cancelling last minute, asking to bring uninvited guests and now my table plan is totally screwed as half the names don't make sense * Guests have not bothered to even read the invitations, getting the venue wrong (wrong hotel) and TIME! It says ceremony to start at 3:30 and people are like, yes we will get there 3:30 - NO they need to be seated at that time * Guests not understanding dress code - we want smart chic, NOT clubbing outfits, The Oscars style ballgowns or shorts * Guests finding all the above utterly hilarious when I correct them - err no, please can you understand it is extremely stressful I don't understand how some people are grown adults and cannot work out how to get to a venue on time wearing the correct attire. I cannot wait to get on honeymoon (yes we lost our deposit as well to a company that went bust) as laying on this blessing is more hassle than its worth. We eloped originally and I really regret bothering having a wedding, mostly for the benefit of others, who don't give a sh!t how much effort we have put in. sorry, but are you seriously telling people what to wear ?

I'm with Lively Trish. This is seeing evil where there is none. Rather like that mother who was worried about mixed groups of little ones going to the swimming pool together and changing in the same area. Sometimes the corruption is in the minds of the parents, not the children. *LIKE* so sad that children can't be children any more.....

This boy had been encouraged by an adult in his family, believe it or not, but I did witness some parents that so proud to have a boy - like it was an achievement ! - and do encourage these little boys to kiss hug and more than this, I remember a friend of my sister saying proudly how the teacher in the class separated that boy from a specific girl in the class, as he keeps touching this girl - like a man! - with no remorse on the mother face, bare in mind that boy was only 7 years old! this woman I did gave her a piece of my mind and how by her irresponsibility she is raising a pervert, not a man! OP, you need to get your DD to not let anybody, young or adult, man or a woman - specially in her tender age - can touch her, if it happen, then she must tell the teacher about it, as this is wrong. If it was me, I would go at the pick up time in the school, ask my DD to point out this boy, then I will talk to his parent(s) who will be picking up him, and this should stop it. really ?

not worried exactly but you are making a rod for your own back...at what point do you think you will be able to get her to eat other foods ? Better to get her eating the same as you and as BC says, it will help if you can eat together whenever you can.. Don't put cheese or butter on it every time and keep an eye on her weight

Can I ask those of you that have received 12mths notice from their LL - HOW exactly this was served please? Is it true it MUST be notorised and served officially via courier? No email? sms? letter left under door etc... I know people have varying views on this, but the RC advised us and LL in order for there to be no arguement he should provide a notarised eviction notice including the reason for eviction and have it sent via signed for delivery. He did this and we are happy with that, we have an official document stating that he wants to sell it without tenants and he knows that we know the law around the rerenting rule, no excuses once we are gone. We got ours in an email saying he was selling the villa and did we want to buy it ?

I thought she could sponsor her herself since she is employed. My prior housemaid has a sister that lives here too. Her sister is also a housemaid and sponsored my maid originally as a tourist. That is how I met her, on a tourist visa. We had to change her visa over once we hired her but it was not expensive. Does a maid earn enough to sponsor someone ?? DT, I think the maid went to a travel agency and done this to her sister. Coriander is saying she can sponsor daughter herself as she is employed - her sister is another case...
