It must depend on who you associate with back home. None of my friends are doom and gloom. You cant blame a country for your lack of success in life, its up to the individual to make the best of what they have. My friends in the UK aren't "doom and gloom" either. Several lived here for many years, moved back and are very happy there. They're pensioners and not in the best of health so their social life mainly consists of outings to the doctor and the joy of the weekly shop so yes, it probably is down to who they meet...

Every time I speak to my parents they are full of doom and gloom..the country this, the government that.. I agree the weather plays a big part although it hasn't actually been that bad there of late...I think they just like to moan..but when you are permanently bathed in sunshine it makes everything look brighter and we are so spoiled here with everywhere being kept so spotlessly clean and shiny it's a shock when you get off the plane at Gatwick and the airport just feels grotty...everywhere seems to look like it needs a good clean...And it seems all our politicians are becoming caricatures of themselves, young people have no role models or respect.. I really don't know what can be done...people need jobs, self-respect, lower prices so they can afford to have an extra few quid left at the end of the week... Jeremy Kyle's Britain :\:

A few things are puzzling me a) How do you know the lady is a maid from her wanting to join a group - could she be a friend of the family or a colleague of the children's parents? b) If she is a maid, how would you ever know who her employer is to contact her? sorry, I don't understand (a) - I know she is a maid because all her facebook friends are of the same nationality and the two children are very obviously not hers, and in the video you can hear her call their mother madam...There are not photos of the parents, just the children. b) Their uniforms show the name of the school - if I was minded to I could take a photo of them to the school and ask. Thanks for all the input, I expected that everyone would agree the employer should know.. I'm still undecided that it would be fair on the maid to interfere and I wonder whether the employer has checked her facebook and allowed the photos to stay... maybe it's a pertinent message for everyone employing people who are close to their children, to make it clear how you feel about this sort of thing and to keep an eye on your employees' social media activity..

wow, where are you finding all these useless men ? and where has the respect gone ? I know most of these comments are tongue in cheek but if my husband was anything like any of these I'd have left him years ago...marriage is a partnership - ours always has been. He's always done his share with the kids and the house, and he's as capable as I am, if not more so !! He doesn't expect me to wait on him, not that I would !! lol and in the mornings we have a routine that works smoothly with us both sharing chores equally. To be honest, most men and marriages I know aren't like these ones..they really are good for more than killing spiders, mowing the lawn and lifting heavy furniture lol

Sorry, but I really don't think it matters how long your maid has worked for you or how much you think she loves them. I would never, not in a million years, allow my maid to do this, especially if the whole world could see them. DT - you really don't have to explain why you have seen her FB page - we have all checked on someones FB page at some point in our lives whether it be an ex-boyfriend, old friend or work colleague (and if they say they haven't they are lying). Tell your friend, so at least she will know and decide if she is happy with it or not. edited by MollyMooMoo on 19/03/2015 edited by MollyMooMoo on 19/03/2015 No, I really DO admin a group and I really DO check people's facebooks before I let them join - it's standard practice to avoid spammers and undesirables, and to ensure they are qualified to join .. It's not my friend - I have no idea who the madam is but I know which school the children go to... edited by Doubting Thomas on 20/03/2015

Dim in the extreme to not realise that most normal people wouldn't touch their business with a barge pole after seeing them spam forums like that !! I feel the same about businesses that shoehorn their ads into facebook groups at every opportunity...nothing against advertising but once is enough - I don't need to open my facebook and see the same ad all over it...

Hate all the ads, so much so I've all but given up on the radio these days but what annoys me more is the fact that they only have the same 2 or 3 people...Honestly, in a place the size of Dubai can they really not find more than 3 people with a half decent voice ? That same woman who goes on about his axe also puts on a low sexy tone to advertise something else...

And to reply to the OP - my friend who stays, because she works, always says that when it gets really hot you simply treat the mall like your village - you can do everything there..You have breakfast, do a bit of shopping, do your banking, pay bills, have lunch, see a movie, get your hair done, have a salon treatment, go to the library (in MoE), all without leaving the building !! lol

We go home every summer to spend time with grandparents - if we had no family at home we probably wouldn't bother but it's important to keep our UK life current so that when we eventually move back we still have something left to move back to !! I couldn't do the travelling round living out of a suitcase thing but our house is still as we left it so we have somewhere to stay, and things need doing around the place..luckily my husband doesn't own any flowery shirts although he hasn't worn a wedding ring for years !! Hmmm.... lol

Hi - are the fun begins! The supermarket in the Marina Mall is called Waitrose, one of the UK supermarkets, with huge range of UK products. Spinneys i& Waitrose are probably the most popular with the expat community. [b'>I think they are also the only 2 supermarkets where you can buy pork. [/b'>If you live in the Marina, GEANT based in Ibn Battuta Mall is very good. There's also Choitherms in the Greens and Carrefour in the Mall of the Emirates. ETA - prices do vary quite extensively. GOOD Magazine does a comparison each month on the best places to get certain products. To save it will take some major work on shopping everywhere and getting the bargains! Good Luck edited by pollydxb1 on 14/03/2015 Choithrams also sell pork as do Park n Shop who sell the best sausages in Dubai, in our opinion !! lol We use Lulu's in Al Barsha and Union Co-op (Safa Park or Al Barsha mall) - the best value and our local Geant is best for fresh meat..Spinneys and Waitrose are pricier but they sometimes have things we can't get anywhere else... Carrefour prices are also fairly good...

Step 1. Write the email... . (that way you can get everything out of your system - trust me - you will feel better) Step 2 . Don't send it to her... send it to YOURSELF Step 3. Sleep on it for 48 hours take a big breath and then reread Step 4. DELETE! At the end of the day - I am sensing you need to vent but you need to do it in a productive way. Sending it to her isn't going to change who she is - only confirm what she (unfairly) believes about you.. Don't give her the opportunity. (or let her come between you and your husband) If you need to further vent - repeat from Step 1. Good luck. x edited by rubyslippers on 10/03/2015 Might just do this - thanks! :) If you do, make sure you put your own email address in the "To" field before you start !! No chance of sending it accidentally lol

Use their UAE licence or get an International licence..If he still has a UK address and you want to pretend he still lives there he can get a provisional licence and take his lessons..but technically it wouldn't be legal...

Thanks DT. I don't know any parents of children at that school so your feedback is very helpful. My main concern is that most of the students will have parents that work in the same organisation or live in the same area so that my DS could be a bit of an outsider with most kids having a sibling in the school or a connection with parents work. Maybe this isn't the situation at all or even if it is, maybe it wouldn't impact at all. Thanks again. I don't know where any of the parents worked when my son was there - neither did he apart from an odd one or two...Personally I don't think it matters - he was never short of friends and they lived all over the place.. He also had friends who went to other schools but he was 13 when we came here - maybe these things matter more for younger children who rely on their parents more for their social life...

Perhaps they have been canceled Does anyone have an update on either? The boot sale at Horizon International (um al Sheif) was last Friday, the one this week is the other Horizon School

My comment was based purely on the child abuse element - I don't believe it is anyone else's business whether or not children go to school or anything else for that matter....but if they are being physically harmed (not just being made to do chores) then they should be reported, in my view..

No idea about the UAE but when we were on holiday in Greece we were convinced the "Lamb" on the menus was always goat simply because, as CP says, we never saw a single sheep there but always lots of goats !! We wondered if maybe they didn't want to upset the tourists...but in any case we always enjoyed every meal we had, whether it was goat or sheep... But if the OP is asking because of an allergy then I think she should maybe try to find a definitive answer from maybe a government website or something, rather than a chat forum....(apologies if there are any licenced butchers on here)... And coriander has a very distinctive smell, especially if you rub it between your fingers...
