I do wish you ladies would stop using forum shorthand for Valentine's Day. Unless, of course, you did get a course of antibiotics. lol LT, I think maybe most of them aren't old enough to remember what VD stands for:lol:

I do feel sorry for Moonflower. She gets to 'boast'' about whats essentially a house cat. It's not a glorified "house cat"! They had to breed at least 1000 cats in order to get this one to look the way it does and it cost almost $6000 American dollars to have it shipped all the way from the states. [b'>END OF SUBJECT![/b'> edited by MoonFlower582 on 16/02/2015 Oh dear, how much is it going to cost to ship it here when you move in April ??

What happened to your previous guinea p? http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic219775-vet-for-small-animals-forum23.aspx It's probably the one she mentioned in her post - an unfortunate adoption...

I was thinking more the other way round - if the waiter's rubbish you would tend not to tip regardless of everything else being good..

Interesting editing by admin here - sadly didn't get it quite right - Noddy's post now doesn't make sense !! lol For future reference the 's' word, as in to s people off, is not allowed..(but pleased to see they are bothering to read what they edit now instead of just deleting everything). thought I was going mad having lost half my post until I realised !! lolol If folks want to celebrate VD with lavish gifts then lucky them, if you do not celebrate then that is fine too but being nasty to each other off is not necessary. For the OP we had a bottle of bubbles in the desert at sunset,

But he's the only one who has a direct effect on the tip - if you're not pleased with him you won't give as much even though all the other bits of the service, crockery, drinks etc were good...

I did mention that both parties were being nasty, not just one sided. I wish I was a size 8 too and had a diamond anklet but it doesn't bother me if someone else has these things. It doesn't bother me either, it was a silly joke - for all anyone knows I might be a size 8, and I resent your implication...

I will probably cause more of a stir now by saying that I think some of the 'bullying' comments on here are really not very pleasant. The OP may be 'showing off' but in all honesty some of you folks need to take a step back from this **********. If folks want to celebrate VD with lavish gifts then lucky them, if you do not celebrate then that is fine too but to slag each other off is not necessary. For the OP we had a bottle of bubbles in the desert at sunset, totally chilled. ;) so when I make a joke about not being a size 8 it's ok for her to say that's why I didn't get anything for Valentine's Day ?

[/b'> Yes....a lot of husbands are using that excuse nowadays, aren't they Hmm I should remember this next year !!! Do you give your husband a hint on what you'd like to get on Valentines day? My husband is no good at choosing gifts, I'm a size 8 but I think he sees me huge! He likes to buy me clothes but he ends up buying 2 sizes larger than my size!! omg I hate you !! I haven't been a size 8 since I was 12 !! lol ...That might explain why you didn't get anything yesterday.

[/b'> Yes....a lot of husbands are using that excuse nowadays, aren't they I don't know - it's usually me that says it !! lol I prefer all the treats we exchange throughout the year for no reason, without feeling obliged.. That's what women who don't get anything on Valentines Day usually say, isn't it? LMAO !! You really think that if I wanted a gift on Valentine's Day i'd let him get away with not getting me one...I wouldn't know what to ask for anyway seeing as anything we want we just buy..instead of having to wait for a "something" day... edited by Doubting Thomas on 15/02/2015

You simply cannot put a price on three to four hours a day everyday, not to mention the bad example I'd be setting for my girls by doing that kind of work How would taking care of your own home yourself be setting a bad example to your girls? I would have thought the opposite to be true, many choose to do their own housework out of preference, and for whatever reason there's nothing demeaning in doing so. edited by chezmoi on 15/02/2015 I would like for them to one day marry men that can properly provide for them. You are entitled to raise your daughters as you like of course, and I don't mean to be critical but how can you guarantee that even if they marry super wealthy men that something could not possibly happen to affect their wealth? If they are raised to only expect to be served by maids they will be ill prepared to deal with any eventually that might heaven forbid change their circumstances. Even the Queen of England was taught how to sweep, mop, clean and dust as a young girl, does she ever need to do these things, no, but actually she chooses to sometimes to when she is on her private vacations so she can enjoy a bit of privacy away from servants. She also regularly walks her dogs herself as well. Just my opinion, I do not deny you yours, and I wish you all the best. edited by chezmoi on 15/02/2015 I am raising my daughters in the fashion of which I was raised, and I turned out just fine That's only your opinion

We actually had a lucky escape just before Christmas - husband's job was on the line and we had a chance to jack it in and go home... considering we'd only expected to be here for 3 months you could say it was long overdue !! lol I think we surprised ourselves with the strength of feeling towards wanting to stay here...I was adamant i'm not ready to go home yet so we negotiated and have extended our stay.. If I was asked what was the biggest or most important deciding factor I think i'd have to say schooling..There is no way the schools we'd have had to put our son in back home would suit him as well as his school here...Also I would probably have to work as well as I doubt we'd manage on one wage there..We actually feel our cost of living, for us at least, is more manageable here..

Our company pay our rent and they've always paid one cheque... Lucky you.... i pay my rent and have to pay in two cheques.... he wanted one but i explained that it was never gonna happen, he accepted two - grudglingly Yes it's lucky, but i'm sure my husband could get a better salary somewhere else though we'd have to pay our own rent - swings and roundabouts I guess !!

Every so often there are discussions about books read, recommendations etc so why not start a new forum? Not quite a "book club" as such but there's always been a separate board for hobbies including books etc.. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/forum14-hobbies--interests.aspx

Well said Daza and actually I didn't do any research into vaccinations since I was happy to trust the medical profession for the same reasons as you..As parents you research things like brands of formula, types of pram or car seat, most eco friendly nappies and then nurseries or primary school and so on but in my opinion matters of health and medicine are best left to those who are properly qualified and experienced.

Beats me why it's still optional...People who don't bother belting their children up in the car are irresponsible but at least they are only endangering their own child's life..Parents who refuse to vaccinate also endanger everyone else's children too.. If I sent my child to school with peanuts in his lunch the school would confiscate them because there's a chance he could give one to a child who is allergic to them...Where is that same protection for my child against the diseases being carried by his class mates who haven't been vaccinated ?

There used to be a playgroup like this at Jebel Ali... Most schools provide activities already - personally I wouldn't bother to take a child in that age range anywhere else, their day is long enough already imo.
